Arma 3 stuttering issue

Recommended Posts

Hi, Recently, i've been getting a really bad stutter problem when I play on any server with or without mods even when I have a pretty good PC. The sutter lasts anywhere from 2-60 seconds and the fps normally drops to around 1-3 even when the game runs smoothly at around 60fps normally. I've tried many things like reinstalling, lowering settings and changing the gpumaxframesahead but have had no luck.

My specs:

-I7 4790K

-GTX 970

-8gb RAM (2x4gb)

-Asus Ranger VII Mobo

- 2tb hard drive

If anyone has any idea on how to help then it would be much appreciated,

Thanks.

Has it been since the 1.58 upgrade? If so, I am experiencing the exact same thing.

I get a range of framerates depending on what I'm doing and previously those framerates were fairly representative of what my quality of performance was like, but now this stuttering is just completely throwing everything off.

It can say I have a framerate of 60fps, but the stuttering is causing a degradation that feels more like 20 half the time.

I have no idea what BI did, but it has made the game unplayable for me.

Any time my game has stuttered it's because the hard drive is busy or struggling to ready everything before it shows up.

I agree, and that's pretty normal, it will happen at predictable points and then it will calm down for a while.

As of recent it's just been an inexplicable onslaught that doesn't seem to follow a predictable pattern.

I can play perfectly fine for about 15-25 minutes, then the fps drops to about 1-4 and has about 1 second response time when moving the mouse and trying to aim. It never goes back to normal until I close the game and open it again. Objects are shown less detailed than they normally would at a lower if not the lowest LOD i guess, even when in 3rd person my soldier looks like something from Operation Flashpoint.  It has happened since Game version 1.58 approx.

I'm currently on DEV branch Game version: 1.59.135462.

Operating System: Windows 8 Pro 64-bit (6.2, Build 9200) (9200.win8_gdr.151230-0600)

Processor: Intel® Core i7 CPU         950  @ 3.07GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.1GHz

Well, try going back to Stable Branch and see if the issue persists. Also, the next time it happens try holding LEFT SHIFT and KEYPAD MINUS (-) for 3-5 seconds and then type "FLUSH" (without the ""). That may temporarily resolve the issue.

same here in testmission 30ai vs 30ai (without triggers/scripts) after 2-6 minutes, only in the current dev version, not in stable. The last time I had this was arma2.

Stuttering I have too (in stable), 50fps feels like 20.

Pretty much, it isn't the actual frame rate that seems to be the problem as mine can range from 50 to 85 in some circumstances

I officially have update fatigue, I'm done, I want off this train.

Whatever happened with the recent update (not eden, the one that happened more recently) f'ed things up, the game was running as acceptably as I can expect for my older system specs, not fantastic yet not terrible.

I just want to play the game I bought in the most optimal manner I can instead of constantly having updates forced upon me that screw with my ability to enjoy the game.

There are people who bought this 2 + years ago who have not merely upgraded their systems because of planned DLC.

I just want to enjoy the the game, ARMA 3 devs pls no bully.

I am experiencing the same issue as OP.

Game runs around 50 - 60 fps for 30 minutes.

After 30 minutes frame rate SUDDENLY drops to ~ 4 fps and STAYS there until game has been restarted.

This is only present on DEV-branch (16/04/2016).

My friends do not experience this problem when we play together.

Experimented with graphics settings, no effect.

Specs:

Core i7 2600k @ 3.8GHz

GTX 680

Windows 7

250GB Samsung EVO SSD

Other Info:

The frame rate drops from ~50 Hz down to ~4 Hz over a period of 13 seconds. However, when frame rate drop occurs, looking up and down appears to speed up the rate at which the frame rate is dropping. (from 13 seconds down to about 5 seconds)

I hope this was helpful.

This is confusing. You are on the stable branch? And getting this stuttering?

Same. I was updated to 1.58 automatically by steam today. It runs normally at first but after a few minutes stutters. Textures drop out, flickering, low LOD models and around 4fps.

The game was running perfectly on my PC until this update.

Hello guys,

thank you very much for your feedback. For those who are experiencing this issue and did not update yet, please try to do so.

If you are running latest stable version of the game, please send me your rpt files along with dxdiag files (zip em up, upload to some free file sharing service and PM me the link).
A similar issue was reported and it seems most people who has experienced this were using the system malloc. If you are using that one, please switch to the tbb4malloc_bi (and if that helps, please let me know).

Thanks :)

Same exact problem, but mine picked up when I installed the 1.3 gb patch this morning. Just earlier this morning before the update, I was perfectly fine. However, I've been having a persistent crash problem with my .dll files. Previous to this patch, I had to clear my .dll folder to prevent a crash 10 minutes into gameplay. Now, if I keep my .dll files I can barely load into a server before I crash. However, keeping my .dll files clear seems to now have caused the ~4 fps problem instead of crashing.

I just had the game start corrupting models and drop the framerate to a slideshow after about an hour of play. Menu would work fine and fast when it opened a few moments after hitting escape, though. Just updated to 1.58 and started a new single player mission.

I have this exactly, only it's in multiplayer as well.

I took some printscreens how it looks like.

I'll have normal gameplay for around 5 minutes when joining the server.

Then out of nowhere my fps starts dropping from 50-60 to 3-4 and all graphics start going to shit.

The thing I've noticed when that happens is that my disk usage also drops to 0-4% while it's usually somewhere around 40-100%

Those pics are the exact thing happening to me; character models start folding/disappearing and all the textures look like LOD textures. At first I thought my GPU was overheating or something, but the thing was stone cold pretty much. There was no anamolous HDD, CPU, or memory usage during it according to the task manager, but I noticed the activity light for the drive was pretty much just on; not flickering here and there, but solid.

According to NeoArmageddon in this thread, this workaround only prolongs the amount of time before issues occur, not fixes them:

Removing -malloc = system from the command line has so far resolved the issue for me.

Hi guys,

I am having a similar issue when I play Arma 3 - Whether it's Wasteland, Exile, Co-Op, whatever. It is happening with the Arma 3 game.

I will play , and then at random times my computer will essentially freeze, my fps will drop for a few seconds, and then go back to normal. This happens randmoly throughout my playing time.

For example, i will be trying to do a mission, i'll zoom in on some AI and my computer will stutter, fps drops, and it stutters for a good 2-5 seconds before stabilizing. I thought this was a hardware issue (my computer not being able to run the graphics i have set) but i have a pretty decent computer, and i have tried lowering the settings to almost nothing and the problem still persists.

I have to use V-Sync because if i don't my screen experiences tearing , which is obviously a monitor issue. I play Arma 3 on a standard hard drive, not a SSD

My computer specs are:

Intel I7 3.2 ghz CPU

EVGA Nvidia GTX 970 SC+

16gb Patriot Gaming Ram

Asus motherboard (can't remember the exact model, but new within 1.5 years)

1000W Power Supply

Any help would be greatly appreciated. It is also worth to note that i did not experience these issues out of the box with Arma, this started happening recently, within the past 2-3 months. I do not have any virus program running in the background, and the only program i have running really is razor synapse and the nvidia control panel for my video card.

This has happened to me even to the point of losing the connection to the server (even one very close where my normal ping is in the 20-40 range).
