Lt_Damage 0 Posted October 23, 2002 I understand that you might not want to have no addons. Please remove all addons and then try and see if this resolves the messages you were talking about. Then if you see that the errors stop you know it is due to the addons and you can put the addons back. edit: I do not know why it would complain about addons in a mod directory though, unless it scans all directories for .pbo files? Spiz14 0 Posted October 23, 2002 These stupid dedicated servers suck, i cant even install them, can't you bring out proper 1.88 patches instead of this crap. These stupid things fix nothing anyway.
CADman-GUN- 1 Posted October 23, 2002 Had a game last night with 24-28 players on a Texas based server (stoners house of pancakes) running the latest server 1.88 patch and on my 56k modem here in the UK. I had a ping of 200-270 and a great game, hardly any lag great, re-spawning choppers taking us back into the action on death respawn. 14 players a side it was some fun capture and hold. Very impressed for a 56ker Great work BIS!

You type #missions and it will bring up a blank list with desert selected. But if you choose any other island, all missions are now available. Also if you select back to desert, missions are now visible too. This is 100% of the time. No variation whatsoever. We use map cycle in server.cfg for about 20 missions. <span id='postcolor'> This is confirmed issue. Part of the fix implemented in 1.87 is in the client code. 1.87 client will always wait until mission list is received before showing it. 1.85 client can show mission list while (or even before) it is trasmitted from the server. Waiting a little and then selecting different island should be reliable workaround for admins until updated client is available.
Slavka 0 Posted October 23, 2002 Ehmmmm............any ETA on Linux version of the latest ded. server? We played the 1.85 yesterday and it was choppy as all hell. Please reply.

Skunk Monkey 0 Posted October 23, 2002 Well we are still Getting the "Connecting Failed" bug that we assumed was conected with the Ghosting problems of 1.75. The server is up and working (and working well) and there can be people playing. but random people (and as I type this I am one of them) for no apperent reason cant see the server via a hosts.txt file or via direct IP connection. The server can be seen in the in-game browser but you get "connecting failed" if yopu try and connect. The server can be cold booted and still you can get this problem. I can connect to the server for other things but not OFP during this time. Others in game have no problems but some of us must just sit and wait for the server to be visable again by direct IP, we can connect then and carry on playing. Anyone Else get this on thier server - is it a Router issue? Suggestions welcome Edit maybe this would be better in troubleshooting - I'll copy it there
Rexxenexx 0 Posted October 23, 2002 I'm getting "connecting...wait for server" at the bottom of user selection screen and no mission starts. the motd shows and I can login as admin and see all the missions, but when I try to start one I get to the same "connecting...wait for server" screen. Anyone know what could be wrong?
kabukiman 0 Posted October 24, 2002 Had a huge 1.88 Test yesterday... - Connecting does take longer than on 1.85, but slightly less than on 1.75. - Had a small desync boost once (within 4 hours!), great job! - No major LAG noticed. - Some "missing Addons" messages, but we could play it nevertheless! The mentioned missing addon wasn't even used in that mission we played! All in all, great job, BI!
sas_razor 0 Posted October 24, 2002 Server [sAS]Ruby with 22 players is now back to normal play standards as far as LAG is concerned (if thats what it was which I doubt because LAG doesn't govern frame rate on the host - vice versa?). Good job BIS for 1.88beta. Three questions for advice. 1) On an open server that has been locked by the admin a player trying to join now receives the message - "Player X has been kicked" - This makes people think we have banned them when we have not. Just us? Does duplicate do this too? 2) When running two issues of the server on the same IP/machine on different ports - only 1 (the lower port range 2234/2235) will appear in GSs wonderful internet list. Is there a work around? 3) During the 1.85 LAG event I set MaxMsgSend=5000; MinBandwidth =862144; which seemed to cure all of our LAG problems but not our desync problems. Is there a way to relate this to available bandwidth  and Processor speed etc. or is it just trial and error? Server Specs are XP2000 1Gig RAM, Radion 8500, 155Mbps connection. Thanks in advance [sAS]Razor
Rexxenexx 0 Posted October 25, 2002 Ok got it to work, I reinstalled OFP and Res and applied 1.88 and now it works perfectly! Good improvement overall. Their was just one hickup when three guys in a jeep couldnt get out for about a minute. Everyone else could run around w/o any probs and lookn' laugh at them, those guys could talk and gunner in the jeep could shoot(not move). And none reported a red box. after the minute or so they all popped out at the same time and everyone was good again. Very cool! I wouldn't call it a problem considering I only have DSL and I think some had 56k connecting to it
Spiz14 0 Posted October 25, 2002 how do you install these dedicated servers, i tried with 1.87 and 1.88 but it just wont work, when i run the server it says something about resource file. Please go into detail, the readme isn't very clear.

Please go into detail, the readme isn't very clear.<span id='postcolor'> a sure fire way for 1.88b. 1.Reinstall orig OFP CD (delete folder if still there after uninstall-IOW make sure you are "CLEAN" before reinstalling) 2. Install Res CD 3. Download 1.88b and extract files to OperationFlashpoint directory. It should overwrite some stuff. 4. Edit sample.cfg if you want or just double click FlashpointServer.bat to try it out (Use another computer to try and login to the server; the name of the server will be your computer name if you didn't edit the sample.cfg). 5. If you want to safely customize the sample.cfg then you can do this: -copy FlashpointServer.bat and sample.cfg and rename to MyServer.bat and my.cfg -bring MyServer.bat into notepad and change sample.cfg to my.cfg -read this and this for more info on editing the my.cfg file. Hope this helps  EDIT: Just to make sure you know, You SHOULD run the bat file ONLY -which is like a shortcut telling the actual FlashpointServer.exe to use the my.cfg/sample file- for it to work. You DONT run the exe by itself. whisperFFW06 0 Posted October 25, 2002 Hi, We experimented several server crash under 1.88 (in fact, 2 during perhaps 3 hours of game), unfortunately, I don't have any log (redirection config on our RedHat only redirect after a certain amount of log has been produced ). System : bi-PIII 1.4GHz, 2G RAM, RedHat 7.3. Only add-on installed : Editor Upgrade 1.02 Several missions tested, no lag, no desync, average FPS of 40. whisperFFW06 0 Posted October 26, 2002 more information on this issue, it is very strange. It is perhaps caused by bad configuration on our Linux, I really don't know. So, here it goes : In order to keep logs up, I started the server without nohup, keeping my terminal up. During a mission without add-on, we experienced another crash. We had first a message "Player SERVER is loosing connection" in game, then one "Player xxxx is loosing connection" for each player in game. After that, connection is loosed. I checked the logs, and WOHAA! , Linux logs appear in the middle of OFP logs. A lot of log, I'll copy them at the end. I CTRL-C to stop the server.... I get the normal "Dedicated server finished (SIGINT signal)", but the server do not stop, no prompt. I check processes : 2 OFP server processes still UP, the "father" one, and one of its children. Need to SIGTERM them. So there is a problem with SIGINT handling. After checking the log, it appears that problems arise when some1 is connecting. The log talk much about parsing the squad.xml of the guy connecting. Seeing the message, could be a memory problem too, 2G RAM on my serveur, 768M declared in Falshpoint.cfg Here is the log: 15:27:48 Game started 15:289 Player RedDeviln (Alpha3) connecting 15:28:22 Player RedDeviln (Alpha3) connected (id=52446) 15:28:22 RedDeviln (Alpha3) uses modified config file - 1.85 15:28:41 Player RedDeviln (Alpha3) disconnected 15:30:25 Player SoldierBen disconnected 15:35:18 Game restarted 15:35:38 Roles assigned 15:35:38 Reading mission ... 15:35:42 Mission read 15:36:45 Game started 15:43:18 Player Effe connecting Request..... Angry Radish 0 Posted October 26, 2002 We've had the same errors, where it disconnects everyone, and we have also had it crash completely...both seem related to xml tags though... http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....9;st=

PuNkErS 0 Posted October 29, 2002 in version 1.88 there is a new bug not present in v1.75... in multiplayer games the dead bodies cause some stuttering in the graphics and lag in the game... in v1.75 the bodies disappeared after some time, but in v1.88 they just stay there for all the duration of the game
JRMZ 0 Posted October 29, 2002 Are you sure? I thought they dissapeared to after some time
PuNkErS 0 Posted October 31, 2002 I'm completely sure that dead bodies don't disappear
Lt_Damage 0 Posted October 31, 2002 BIS are aware of this issue and have made changes to 1.88 netcode as "part" of the fix. The other part of the dead bodies fix must be done by the client so will not be resolved until next client update. Regards,
x_rich 0 Posted October 31, 2002 This is really a hope but I don't suppose there is any chance of getting my hands on the source code for the linux server as I would like to compile it to run under Solaris. As we have quite a few big Sparc machines that are not really doing anything of a night and I think that they should. If not a compiled version would be nice
