Mediterranean Alliance Mod

Good day all,

 

today I am proud to announce an interesting cooperation between R0adki11, yevgeni89 and myself: The Mediterranean Alliance Mod.

 

The aim of this mod is to portray the armed forces of the classic OFP islands + some community islands (Saguaro, Capraia) in or around the 2035 timeline. Since the classic OFP and ArmA1 islands feature French, Spanish, and Slavic placenames, we figured that they could well be located "somewhere in the Med" like some real life islands do (Corsica, Sardinia, Mallorca, some Croatian Islands, etc...).

This puts them nicely in place with the BI background story, or the alternative storylines sketched out by the https://forums.bistudio.com/topic/185619-prussian-empire-mod/  AND the https://forums.bistudio.com/topic/183504-the-italian-division-project-factions-mod/

 

Both mods are done by members of one mod team and look very promising.

 

Our little mod is based on the assumption that the BI OFP/ArmA 1 islands form a loose defence alliance, each one keeping their own distinctive armed force with national camo and equipment, but due to the timeline (and lack of modellers) the first initial releases will be mostly retextures of stock BI content. 

 

The initial idea for island allegiances is the following:

INDEP:

 

United Sahrani?

Saguaro?

FIA - Miltia/Rebels

This is just an initial proposal, the ? signify things open to discussion, and as a long time mission maker (since 2005) I would fancy to merge story-wise with one or both of the 2 above mentioned mods, to be able to create something more than just "another set of retextures". Setting off on a SP campaign would be another goal for me.  As this mod brings the work of 3 editors under one hood, here is what has been created so far, under the "flag of individual authors" if you will.

Well, I'm not into the futuristic timeline of ArmA III, but it's good to see that the community is trying to add something to it.

Even if it's not my kind of stuff, I wish you good luck !

yeah, i like how they are doing this, its kind of similar to the Legacy series i have been making when im not busy with life.

I really love projects like this.  The Mediterranean part sort of bugs my autism though.  They said that Malden Islands (everon / nogova / kolguyev / malden) were somewhere towards the Baltic sea.  The Bistudio Community wiki  for Malden says the closest NATO base was West Germany.  It used to say Estonia was the closest base, as this guy seemed to notice.  They all have a northern feel to them.

 

In the Baltic area there would also be Taviana for Opfor, and great islands like Thirsk, Japahto, Kulima, Vostok, Pomegratskaya, possibly Varkgaard, Pantera, Fapovo, Ovaron, Cicada (all A2 islands).

Hmm, I don't get the autism remark, but whatever.

 

I do know that putting the BI islands into the Med is not quite canonical, we base our assumptions on language roots rather than what is up on the BI wiki. Sahrani would be in the midddle of the Atlantic, and as far as I know, there are no french-language islands in the North Sea. Putting them into the Med would ease things from a mission maker's perspective; the "northern approach" would yield to the Russians as sole enemies again, and that is a bit boring; in the Med, they could still show up as contingents, while opening up the scene for a lot of different forces to appear on the battlefield. 

 

If time and skill and community wishes remain high, there is no reason to NOT do another fictious armed force for Thirsk, Taviana, or whatever island. And once I get around retexturing INDEP models and adding custom weapons, current 2016 or earlier timelines are also possible (provided we have access to a retextured current vehicle park by then).

Just a sign of life - after a long break there will be another addon, this time for Malden:

 

Seen below, Malden Coast Guard members display their new uniform, together with the automatic weapons they inherited from the army. To cope with recent tensions, the Coasties have come under MOD control and are training to deal with armed offenders and live under military discipline to become a fully professional force.

Bumping this thread to put emphasis on the expanded list of my addons in the first post. Also, ideas for a campaign storyline are more than welcome!
