Will-my-pc-run-Arma3? What cpu/gpu to get? What settings? What system specifications?

Recommended Posts

This is exactly what I meant :p

Unless he's got something specific in mind such as 3D modelling, image/video editing et cetera that's a really dumb computer.

If I remember correctly Titans are actually worse when playing on small monitors than the weaker graphic cards because they’re made for big screens.

More expensive isn’t always better.

I’d question the mobo, CPU, water cooler, memories, SSD and graphics card choice if it’s meant to be a gaming computer.

Hey guys.

I'm looking at buying a new computer. I'm pretty much set at getting the following:

Mobo: ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z

CPU: AMD FX-9590 4.7ghz 8-core

Water cooler: Silverstone Tundra TD02

RAM: Kingston DDR3 HyperX Beast 32GB 1600MHz 4x8gb chips

Main HD: Intel® SSD 530 Series 240GB

Now, what graphics card do I get? I'm sort of inbetween a crossfire setup of 2 MSI Radeon R9 290 or 1 Gainward GeForce GTX TITAN BLACK. (I'm most likely just gonna be running a single monitor though)

I read some reviews that said the first GTX Titan wasn't as good as a dual setup for 290's, but this is a new version which seems to be scoring pretty high at certain benchmark websites.. The GTX Titan is about 200$ more expensive than a dual setup of 290's though, but I'm not exactly buying a budget computer, so price doesnt really matter anyway...

Any input?

With 780Ti etc out there, Titans are not a great idea unless you run with multiple monitors or 4K (I've definitely seen over 5GB usage at this point).

I'd avoid Crossfire like the G'damned plague, I briefly owned 2 x 290x (purchased to see if the 'CF is so much better now' jibba jabba was justified after I heard the same nonsense with 7970 CF and was equally disappointed) and I was less than impressed with them.

CF is still inferior to SLI when it comes to multi GPU (although, it has improved - I will give AMD that).

Another check mark in the plus column for AMD was the integrated water cooling on the new 295x2 (I really hope this is a trend for high end video cards).

Anyway, long story short, if you are going multi GPU, go with 780Tis (there will be a 6GB version in June/July iirc, but it will no doubt be about the same price as a Titan and totally unnecessary unless you are playing at a very high res).

Looking for some upgrade advice.

Currently running:

i5 760 @ 3.6Ghz

560ti

4GB DDR3 1333

Would upgrading to something like the following be worth the money in terms of performance. Currently I can run A3 pretty well on medium settings, get around 60fps on SP with most things on Medium and around 2K view distance.

i5 3570K

GTX 760

8GB DDR3 1600Mhz

Would cost around £450 for the upgrade. How much performance increase would I get? Please help. :)

Hey. Why not upgrade to the latest 4670K?

With that and the other upgrades you can check out my signature. All max except view/object distance around 3200 and object/terrain detail standard/high at about 40-60 fps something.

That’s in a small singleplayer mission though. Showcase: Infantry basically. Some of the other showcases are 10 worse and with more and more AI you’re eventually going down to 10-20 fps.

Multiplayer is very different depending on a lot of things such as server or mission though.

I believe it will be a good upgrade in all games… actually check out my signature. I had a comparable CPU, same graphics card and same memories and now I have a 4770K (=4670K) with a 770 (slightly stronger than the 760 and completely worth it if you can afford it, cost-efficiency wise) and 16GB 1600 MHz memories (=8GB, the extra 8GB do nothing AFAIK).

Anyways that’s a good upgrade at a good cost assuming a motherboard is included in the cost. You’re going to need a new motherboard for the new CPU naturally.

Yes, it's a general problem. Some servers are better and some missions are better.

Help! I just bought a new PC with Win 7 and an Nvidia GTX 770, but I can't find the Nvidia Control Panel!

On my old PC it could be brought up by simply right-clicking the Desktop, but nothing happens when I do that on my new PC.

I've looked in the Nvidia file on my system but I still can't find a way to open its Control Panel.

Any suggestions? I need the Nvidia Control Panel so I can fine-tune display settings etc, and there's also a magic button in there that I need to kill any picture stretching on certain resolutions.

When the problem will be fixed?

Nobody knows. BIS are working on it. There are some servers that run very well though and there is a big difference between missions.

Nvidia Control Panel help

When you right click on start it should display option - system or control panel and the nvidia panel should be accessible there. If it isn't, go windows updates and let it run. You may need to restart after

Download and install (all motherboard bios/driver) and graphics card drivers, maybe?

Had a look here:

Have my GTX Titan running oc'ed for 7 month or so @ 1202/7400 MHz (355 GB/s) 1.21 V with EVGA ACX cooler and EVGA backplate.

16 GB RAM Corsair Dominator 2133 MHz 9-11-10-27 2T 1.5 V @ 10-11-11-30 1T 1.65V

860 Watt Corsair AX860i PSU

Corsair Carbide Air540 case with 3x120 mm front intake, 1x120 mm rear outtake and 2x120 mm up outtake.

SSD

Playing essentially MP @ 1680x1050.

I think that so far everything is ok with my rig. But my CPU is an old i5-760 4x2.8 GHz @ 4x4.066 GHz 1.34 V.

I plan to switch later to 1920x1200 and wanna record my gaming sessions in MP.

2 questions:

will i7-4930k oc'ed to 6x4.4-4.6 GHz give me better FPS in MP (PvE oriented missions like Domination) while recording compared to i7-4770k @ 4x4.4-4.6GHz?

will i7-4930k oc'ed to 6x4.4-4.6 GHz unleash MORE my oc'ed GTX Titan in MP (PvE oriented missions like Domination) compared to i7-4770k @ 4x4.4-4.6GHz?

6 cores won't do much of sweet FA where A3 is concerned, it will help with the Frostbite engine (BF series, NFS) and U4 (among others) but I didn't notice a difference between 3960X and 4960X in A3 tbh.

Where recording is concerned, I've never actually tested but I suspect it will have little or no impact based on my experience with other software in that regard.

I wouldn't switch to X-79 now at any rate, X-99 is not far off and while I doubt it will do that much for performance in games, it's a nice platform with DDR4, SATA 6 across the board etc.

Thx.

I will than wait for i7-4790k 4x3.6 GHz base and 4x4.0 GHz boost to launch in mai.

i got:

AMD Phenom 1100T BE @default clock, runs 10-30% better when OC to 3.8GHZ, but then the bluescreens incomming.

Disabled turbo core

Watercooling to keep below 45°C

1x GTX 670 from PALIT

4x4 (16gb) DDR3 1333 RAM KingstonHyperX

ASUS M4a87TD EVO usb3 board

Steam on Samsung 840 EVO ssd

Windows on OCZ Vertex2 SSD

Soundcard: creative sound blaster Z and Zx Headset

G15 keyboard & RAT9 mouse

3x AOC 27 inch 1920x1080 monitors.

and low fps

Results (with tbbmalloc allocator, because default ones are much worse)

10 Player Server @1920x1080| Sampling 100% all ULTRA: 18fps

10 Player Server @1920x1080| Sampling 200% all ULTRA: 16fps

10 Player Server @1920x1080| Sampling 100% all LOW: 16fps

So you're saying fps is actually higher on the same server with the same mission around the same time with higher resolution, or different servers, missions or times? That's an important detail.

So I want to buy this game but I want to know if anyone has played this game on a boot camped macbook pro 2012. It is a 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5, 4 GB of memory and 500 ram and Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB. And I split everything equally when I partitioned my computer. So has anyone played with this/ what were your results. I play Dayz and it looks great even though I put the settings on pretty low. I have heard Arma3 pushes your computer to its limits.

Wouldn't count on it starting at all.

why is that?

I wish I had a way to just try it for free then I could make a decision whether or not I should spend the 60 bucks on it

My current CPU is more than twice as strong as yours and I can max the game with about 3200 meters object distance and 50 fps average in small missions.

My old CPU that was only about as strong as yours could only do medium-high settings with about 800 meters object distance and 50 fps average in small missions though.

However that was with a 560 Ti 1024MB that seems to be ten times stronger than Intel HD Graphics 3000 384... your graphics card just isn't made for gaming at all.

Some benchmarks online show that decent games at least will start up with an Intel HD Graphics 3000 but then with a much stronger CPU.

If you can play DayZ you should be able to play ARMA on the lowest settings somewhere about but I doubt it would be enjoyable.

Thanks for the response. Yeah I can play Dayz on very low settings. It's such a shame, I can't install a better graphics card. I love my Mac, especially for the things I used to do, and for school. But now that I've come across some games that I feel would be awesome I can't play them. But yeah I'm just happy Dayz works, that's the main reason I partitioned my Mac to begin with.

Hopefully one day I will get a PC for gaming and still have a Mac to do all the things I love about the Mac.
