So I'm building this island with a completely custom heightmap. The roads are on the map and I used Terrain Processors road integration but the result is not what I want..

Let me give some examples:

Don't mind the bright colours because thats far from final:D But as you can see the edges of the roads angle very agressively. I know I can up the "affected terrain" parameter in TPP but the results remain rather chunky...

My own theory is that the roads.shp file looks very pixelated and because of that the result are not smooth (while TB is prfectly capable of smoothing!)

Or maybe it has something to do with the "side maximal slope" parameter because I have no clue of its function..

I also tried trippeling the islands size allong with the shape file but the results remain the same. Can it have anything to do with cell size?

So basically if someone knows what to do I'll glady hear it. Or if someone can fix it for me I can give you the .shp and .asc

That's how the terrain is. If you down scale your brush in bulldozer to 1 ball, your see to flatten the roads TP had to lower the points next to it, You can smooth them with "R", or just rise / lower them abit, but it will effect the road if to close to it. If I can't make it look better, I hide them bits with rocks and bushes etc.

I know, but TP says the following about "affected range": Distance from road center line to smooth terrain in meters. But none of the results look remotely smooth while it should be perfectly capable of it. Ill keep playing with the parameters..

I could never get away with TP with roads, personally i painted my roads on my sat and loaded that in L3DT, use the bulldozer tool and follow the markings you added, touch of smoothing where required and that was it.

Not really an option for me :P Still hoping there is someone out there who might know the solution

There is no easy option (welcome to arma). The only thing you can do, is try to sort it out by hand the best you can

Ye.. ill keep the untouched heightfield file for the day they optimize their road integration..

you could always use the smooth tool in buldozer and follow the road edge. Size the brush to 9 balls (red). scale the brush down until you don't see any of the brush at all, then resize it up using the mouse wheel and pressing 'N', I think it is. Its been a while since I hit up BD. scale it up to 9 so all the balls are red, then just press 'R' and right click, that should smooth it quite easily the way you want.

Welcome to the world of no easy way out for terrain making. TPP has its flaws in many ways, and it does say that you need to manually adjust your terrain to suit your needs after you have flattened your roads.
