once again i have to say that i love this mod. its a shame that the uniform body type doesnt work with any other vests, but its still fantastic. i love how theres both alice gear and iifs gear. its so awesome and has allowed me to do many cold war and 1990s scenarios. i even run it sometimes solely for the bdu covers/patrol caps. i hope that youll take up this mod again and add more stuff because the stuff in there already is fantastic. a+ work.

This is a fantastic addon, I really, really like it.

One problem I notice is that arm patches from squad xmls are stretched and overly large. Is there any chance of this possibly being fixed?

That was already fixed by DH. Are You sure, that You re running the latest version of the mod?

For personal reference, what took the place of the SAW in a USMC/US Army fireteam in the early 80's before the M249 came about? I've tried to find stuff, but can only find it was possibly either an M14 set to full auto, or an M16A1 with bipods?

Maybe, the M60? Though that's a 7.62mm, not a 5.56.

For Marines the Automatic riflman's role only requires an automatic weapon.  Back in WWII it was the BAR, which was more or less a heavier version of the Garand.  After WWII when Marines switched to the M14 the Auto Rifleman carried a M14 with bipods, heavier stock and I think a carrying handle.  When they switched over to the M16A1 there really wasn't a weapon that filled the role of the auto rifleman.  Then came the SAW in the 80s and the Marines settled with it as an Auto rifleman weapon until finally just a few years ago the M27 replaced the SAW, filling the role of a true autorifleman.  The M60s and M240s are both indigenous to the General Purpose Machine Gun team, not a squad, that's not to say though that a squad didn't have an embedded M60 machine gunner, but it wouldn't be filling the role of an autorifleman in a fireteam of four.

I think the army infantry squad has two soldiers who filled the role of an auto rifleman though I'm not sure if they had a designated weapon for the role before the M249.

The shoulder patches were fixed but not the squad XML patches, they are handled separately. I think I'm using the latest version, I downloaded the latest version from Armaholic.

Is there a way to disable xml patches on a unit in eden editor by chance as a temporary work around? Is there something that can be put in a unit's init field?

Correction, there was a M16a1 HB that was meant for sustainable automatic fire but I've never seen any pictures of it in use.  All M16A2s are HBs though, so moot point.

I'll take it a look at the squad patches and see what I can do.

Squad patches work fine. I just tested it.

It's not that they don't "work" it's that they appear stretched and too large which warps them. I can take a screenshot later today when I get home from work. It's also visible in a lot of Shacktac videos, they use the addon quite a bit. You can see their rank patches that they give their members are over-sized and kind of warped.

We have some footage of the M16A1 HBAR being used in Vietnam. Not sure "how much" use it got but I assume it was late war as it made use of the 30 Rnd magazine and it is visible in at least two clips of footage from firing it in the field. Wasn't visible specifically if Marines or Army were using it, but it was enough to say it was used at least.

This is what I meant...

Here is how they normally look...

9Fe2v1v.jpg

This is how they are appearing in the addon...

fdo6pF7.jpg

So it's not that the squad xml patch isn't showing, it's that they are showing but they are showing too big, notice as well how the top and bottom is slightly cut off.

Hello,

Quick question, how do I add "usm_pack_m5_medic" without adding all 20 "usm_fielddressing" ?

I tried the following code:

player addBackpack "usm_pack_m5_medic";
clearAllItemsFromBackpack player;
player addBackpack "usm_pack_m5_medic";
for "_i" from 1 to 20 do {player removeItemFromBackpack "ACE_fieldDressing";};

But it won't delete usm_fielddressing.

I need them deleted so it doesn't take up space and I can fill up the pack with ACE medical stuff through scripting.

Thank you!

I love this mod, but for some reason, in my game the two metallic things on the back of the helmets are way too bright. The only way i can actually see the details is if i put the unit in heavy shade, even then it looks like its in direct sunlight.

Sorry for pulling up an old post but I wanted to chime in here with some information that I remember from when I was in US Army ROTC from the fall of 1989 till fall of 1991. I didn't get a chance to continue because I wrecked my knee playing football in college.

Now keep what I am about to say in mind here because even though the SAW was adopted and started being used in 1984/1985 it never saw widespread use in the US Army until the ramp up to get troops into Saudi Arabia for the first Gulf War. When units started their deployments to the Gulf the US Army started pulling M-60's from units and giving them M249's.

The ROTC cadre at my school was a bunch of old ready to retire former SF, 82nd and 101st guys from Vietnam were still teaching us small unit tactics that most of them had dealt with while serving during and after Vietnam. This was based around a squad with 11 troops; weird huh. This was laid out with 2 fire teams of 4 troops (example: fire team leader, an AR using an M60, an assistant gunner aka AG who also had an M-16, and a grenadier armed with an M-16 w/203 launcher) then there were 3 extra riflemen with M-16's who could be attached to either fire team to provide maneuver or additional firepower.

US Army basic Rifle Squad size makeup as it was taught to me during ROTC training.

Squad Leader

M-16 Rifleman x 4

M-60 x 2

M-16 Assistant Gunner (aka ammo bitch and spare barrels) x 2

M-16 w/203 Grenadier x 2

Important note here: I don't believe squad sized units started getting radios for each man until AFTER they returned from the Gulf War. Platoons were not supposed to operate across extreme distances as all fire team leaders were supposed to maintain visual contact with the Squad Leader and the Squad Leader was supposed to be within visual or audible contact with the Platoon Leader. IIRC the maximum distance they wanted us to operate across depending on terrain was about 150 meters from front to rear and side to side. As terrain got more difficult we were supposed to contract that size down to under 50-75 meters.
