Can devs confirm ArmSTALKER mod is legit and can be partnered with?

Recommended Posts

Can someone from Bohemia confirm this mod is legit?

http://armstalker.ru/

I like the idea and the setting.

The authors of this project say they have only their own models\resources or properly attributed other mods and use them with permission.

I plan to support them and help them with advertisment on DayZRussia.com for free, but I need Bohemia permission and approval, so that I'm not risking supporting something illegal.

Thanks in advance.

I don't think devs will confirm its legitimacy, but they don't seem to mind the mod's thread in their forums: https://forums.bistudio.com/topic/185777-armstalker-online-%E2%80%93-in-development/

Why do you think it's illegal?

Why do you think it's illegal?

Perhaps its implied on the site they plan to charge for their mod? I don't speak/read Russian so am only surmising. Google Chrome finally translated the page on the 6th attempt, and I couldn't see any reference to a cost, so I guess thats out of the window.

If anything is taken from the STALKER games themselves, I think the devs posted a long while back all of their content is open to be used so long as its not for profit (though I could be wrong).

I would wager that you would hear nothing from BI on the subject since they aren't in charge of the project and aren't going to spend time chasing after a mod author to go thru their assets.

And even if they could what would be the point... so you could shake a finger at BI if the mod did use unapproved assets... what happened if they didn't now but did at some point... would you expect BI to then be responsible for that...

Seems like you will need to make that decision yourself and bear the fruits of that decision either way...

Don't think BI would really care, unless they are doing something that breaks community guidelines.

Actual informations on STALKER license are hard to come by; the general consensus seems to be that GSC devs allowed their assets to be used some time ago.

I don't read russian, so this is the only source I could find :

By my understanding they also have Metro 2033 assets inside their modification along with the STALKER content. I'm not too sure how 4A Games and/or Deep Silver are when it comes to their assets being used, don't remember them being as friendly as GSC are with their assets.

That's news to me; do you have any pictures with said assets?

Yup. For example, the "Shambler" Shotgun from the Metro 2033 Series. I'll just provide links to the pictures.

Another is the Double barrel shotgun, i don't remember the name of it from Metro. But I remember it pretty well.

I could dig a little deeper and see if there's anything else related to Metro. But those are the two which are off the top of my head.

Well, I sincerely hope they either have the greenlight from 4A Games or will let go of these models before release.

Would be a shame to see this project being taken down because of a stupid move...
