BACKGROUND
S Squadron is a multinational ArmA 3 unit that emulates a real world 22 Special Air Service Squadron, offering the opportunity to operate and train as a member of the UKSF, implementing undisclosed tactics, techniques, procedures, as well as modern equipment and vehicles.

S Squadron was founded by a group of like-minded individuals with years of experience within various milsim and realism units, across different games and platforms. This provides members with an enjoyable team atmosphere and exciting and unique gameplay features, making all training, operations, organisation, equipment and vehicles are as close to the real life counterpart as possible.

ABOUT

S Squadron is an ArmA 3 multiplayer group which takes pride in its level of immersion and professionalism as well as maintaining the important balance between realism, gameplay and fun.

Operations are conducted using multiple methods of insertion including high altitude parachute drops, undercover infiltration, covert underwater insertion, air assault and vehicular insertion utilising heavy weapons platforms. Our exclusive insight allows for a high level of immersion and realism in our training programs as well as during operations.

S Squadron conducts dynamic operations, all of which aim to emulate the actions of an SAS Squadron. Missions are created by a highly skilled development team, with expertise in current UKSF operations. UPDATE: 19 March 2016

S Squadron has had a busy start to the year...

SELECTION & TRAINING
Our exclusive selection course runs several times a year with the aim of recruiting the most suitable candidates from the ArmA3 community. January marked the second intake for the squadron. Phase 1 saw candidates carrying out timed navigation, marksmanship and observation exercises. Phase 2 included training in patrol techniques and small unit tactics and in the final test, Phase 3, candidates had to apply all these skills in a tactical exercise.

Phase 3, otherwise known as escape and evasion, is unique to ArmA3 not only in its level of immersion, but also in the methods used to test the abilities and weaknesses of the individual and how they work within a team. You can find out more about our selection process here.

During February, new members began their Employment training. During this probationary period Troopers were instructed in all the skills required for operations with the squadron such as completing an advanced parachutist course, marksmanship courses as well as small unit tactics and CQB training.

OPERATIONS

With a final intake of around 50%, the Squadron began its rotation of contingency taskings. At the end of February the Squadron was deployed to Iraq to assist Kurdish forces in Al-Ba'aj District where ISIL fighters had seized an Iraqi Army border checkpoint. 3 HVIs of interest to the UK were identified and eliminated on target.

The squadron was deployed to Kunduz Province, Afghanistan in March as part of Operation Cathedral, working alongside Afghan Special Forces in Chardara District in an effort to disrupt an influx of foreign fighters.

JOINING

At the end of March the squadron will return from its deployment to staff UKSF Selection for the third time. The course is scheduled to start on April 5th and applications are now open.

UPDATE: 27 June 2016
S Squadron provides a distinctive opportunity for ArmA players - train and operate as a member of an operational SAS squadron, as close to the real life counterpart as possible.

Our focus on professionalism and immersion is achieved not only through game content designed specifically for the unit, but through our exclusive insight into the world of the United Kingdom Special Forces.

1.jpg  2.jpg  3.jpg

In September we will be running our next selection course where members of the ArmA community can put themselves forward as candidates. On passing selection you will become part of a welcoming and lively community focused on teamwork and cohesion:

"I joined SSQN as a former professional soldier in the UK Forces of 8 years... I went through the selection process which took roughly a couple of weeks. It was unique, the only experience like it. I've been in other clans/squads where they have you sucking eggs. It really separates the wheat from the chaff. Definitely well worth joining if you're looking for a professional team of players who play regularly and enjoy the SF experience." - Cross (Member since December 2015)

"Fundamentally, SSQN is everything you could want from an ArmA group. I'm a new addition here, but have spent years on the ArmA scene and have never had the pleasure of being part of such a switched on bunch of individuals. The knowledge is here, the experience is here but most importantly of all, the bants. The bants are here." - Tom (Member since April 2016)

CONTINGENCY TASKING
S Squadron will spend the first few weeks of July conducting contingency operations within the UKSF areas of responsibility. S Squadron will conduct an operation in Libya operating alongside anti-daesh local forces on the ground in securing the safety and extraction of British petroleum company staff.

6.jpg  5.jpg  8.jpg

S Squadron elements will then conduct operations in support of the UK civil power on UK sovereign soil, providing the standby force for counter terror situations.

DEPLOYMENT
At the beginning of August, S Squadron will conduct two weeks of pre-deployment familiarisation training on water-borne and maritime operations (utilising new assets added with the APEX Expansion) to build capability to conduct littoral special operations.

7.jpg  4.jpg  9.jpg

Squadron elements will then begin a five week counter-piracy deployment off the horn of Africa. The squadron will conduct counter-piracy strike operations, HVI arrests, hostage rescue, support of indigenous forces and denial of key pirate infrastructure during the tour.

UPDATE: 30 December 2016

OPERATIONS
The end of the year brings the close of the Squadron's contingency tasking, during which S Squadron formed part of a UKSF contigent in the Arabian Peninsular providing assistance to arrest an AQAP facilitator and to gather intelligence on the location of a Saudi Airman, downed whilst conducting operations against AQAP within Yemen.

DEPLOYMENT

In January the Squadron will deploy to Nigeria on anti-piracy operations to deny further exploitation by militant groups in the south of the country. The Nigerian government is adamant that it has the capability to tackle the threat of islamist insurgency in the north, and has asked for specific assistance from UKSF in quashing growing Anti-Government Pirate Militia (AGPM) and Bakasi Strike Force (BSF) operations on its eastern border with Cameroon.

On return from deployment at the end of January we will be running our next selection course. If you are interested in joining, visit our websiteFacebook page, or review our information pack for more information.
