"In addition to the trees (...) telephone poles, power lines, light poles and everything else are collidable" (12:43 in the video, with an actual crash a bit latter) :)

Can you still shoot and fly through trees?

Flying through trees on this map will quickly end your life. As for the other maps, as far as I know, tree's are still harmless.

Aww that is a shame, I was hoping they would upgrade the old maps too....

(...)at this time the Nevada map and the Black Sea map use two different evolutions of the terrain engine (T4 for Nevada and T3 for the Black Sea). We are still in the process of converting the Black Sea map to T4 which will allow both maps to co-exist in the same DCS version(...)

http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2571277&postcount=4

IIRC the lack of collidable trees on the Black Sea map was due to some engine limitations, it might change once it will be upgraded to "T4".

Still waiting for a definitive answer on this.

EDIT : Well, apparently the trees will remain uncollidable on the old map.

It's here :)

DCS_v2.0-boxart_v1.jpg

The Nevada Test and Training Range (NTTR) has the largest contiguous air and ground space available for peacetime military operations in the free world.

The NTTR land area includes simulated air defense systems, mock airbases, and several target ranges.

The NTTR was also used for nuclear testing. Today, it is home to RED FLAG and other military exercises that include countries from around the world.

The NTTR map for DCS World 2 includes Nellis AFB, Creech AFB and the infamous Groom Lake AFB (aka Area 51).

This map also includes the city of Las Vegas, McCarran International Airport, and Hoover Dam.

Be patient though. If your new to DCS you're looking at a ~40Gb download with speed ranging from a couple of Kb/s to a couple a Mb/s...

Upcoming aircraft modules :

F-5E

  • The external model is complete and includes several well-known color schemes.
  • The 3D cockpit is complete.
  • All aircraft systems are accurately simulated in high detail.
  • A new engine compressor model has been implemented based on accurate blade load calculations. The new model provides a very accurate simulation of compressor guiding unit functionality and an expanded range of engine operation modes (high and low compressor stalls and compressor operating in windmill mode).
  • The radar, optical sight, jettison system, gun use, launching of air-to-air missiles, air-to-ground rocket use, and flare and chaff countermeasures are integrated into the model and the aircraft's Weapon Control System (WCS). All the above-mentioned items are now operating as described in F-5E operations manuals.
  • The Professional Flight Model (PFM): operational range of altitude and airspeed, acceleration with various payloads and G loads (in sustained turns and at maximum angles-of-attack) are tuned based on available data of the flight dynamics of the real aircraft; the model behavior at critical angles-of-attack (stalling) and post-stall behavior (post-stall gyrations and spins) now match descriptions of the real aircraft.
  • Flight manual in Russian has been written.

Spitfire LF Mk.IX

Adjustment to the flight model of the Spitfire LF Mk.IX aircraft continue. As of late, most of our testing and refinements have focused on airframe, engine and propeller parameters in references to actual tests of the World War II aircraft at our disposal at The Fighter Collection.

Primary development on the flight dynamics is nearing completion and we believe you will be very happy with the results. We think it is our best work yet. Our efforts are now moving to the Hispano-Suiza HS.404 20 mm-caliber automatic cannons. These will include realistic ballistics for all main ammunition types used during WWII.

Spit-2.jpg

Upcoming Normandy map :

Development of the specially created "DCS: Normandy 1944" map for DCS World War II continues its development at a fast pace. Currently, the main effort is focused on airfields with different types of surfaces (a first for DCS World). For example: we are implementing SMT (Square Mesh Tracks) surfaces, which were widely used by the Allies for temporary airfields in Normandy following the landings. We are also developing the possibility to place airfields on the map using the Mission Editor (another first for DCS World).

It looks like we'll be getting a major update for the Caucasus Map some time this year. New terrain mesh, possibly an extension of the map area and collidable trees. For once I welcome this kind of feature creep and the delays that go with it. I think every helicopter pilot will appreciate the new trees and higher terrain detail.

Right now I won't touch helis on the Black Sea map. Nevada simply looks much much better at low level.

There is more info on the map overhaul in this live stream VOD:

Also, there is a Summer Sale on right now with up to 50% off modules and some bundles:

https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/shop/

Personally I'd recommend the Nevada Test and Training Range, L-39, the Mirage 2000C and the SA-342 Gazelle. These are my most flown modules right now. Especially the Gazelle is a lot of fun to fly and fight in (provided you have rudder pedals):

I'm a big fan of DCS world stuff, I've played since the Flanker 1.0 days, one of the best combat flight sims out there, can't afford version 2.0 (Nevada) just now, as out of contract, but once I get some cash, it's a must have.

The Normandy map looks awesome, I wish they'd make a Mossie sim as well.

Yeah, Normandy cannot come soon enough.

That last picture in my previous post is the Caen abbey, quite impressive.

In the meantime, the Swedish beauty is here :icon_biggrin:

The Spitfire is horrendously brittle, using my game controller. any sudden moves and the starboard aileron, wingtip shear off, the P51 I have no issues using my game controller, but sadly the Spitfire is like trying to fly an egg with a lump hammer, it's too sensitive, and is making flying it short lived each time, I never seen this happening during the movie "Battle of Britian" .

Thanks goes to Eight Ball for the Module though, once I get my FCS over from the UK, I'll be able to enjoy the flights a LOT more.
