But lifting a motorcycle is almost impossible - even a dirtbike! The bike on the link looks cool - classic old scool thumper!
Guest Scooby Posted October 13, 2002 There are two places I know bikes are used in Finnish army. In reconnaisance of IFV units and to deliver messages at higher level of command structure. You cant drive car in woods but you can drive a bike in vast variety of different terrain types.

Pukko 0 Posted October 13, 2002 This thread made me remember something I have'nt thought about for a long time. It feels strange that I have'nt noticed it in grater extent now... My oldest brother was a fuel driver (carried fuel on a trailer after a tractor) in the Swedish infatry, Sollefteĺ, during his military service. He had a friend there who served as an motorcycle ordonance (messenger - I think he used an offroad Husquarna or something). As I remeber it they were good friends and my brother got to ride some wild trips with him. But during a 'lights out' night exercise this guy came at, well enough speed, and drove right into a cannon at the back of a column; he got the cannon tube in his stomache and later died from the injuries. I'm quite sure he died from it, hell I'm really surprised over my bad memory in this case anyway - I was probably 13 years at the time (28 now) and understood it from a 'not capable to understand anything serious - little brother' perspective. I really have to find this out... real scary that I'm not sure about such an important thing in my brothers life....
KingBeast 0 Posted October 13, 2002 Dont know if anyoen put this( too lazy too read whole post), but on the British Army website i found this: http://www.army.mod.uk/equipment/muv/muv_hdm.htm The Harley Davidson has replaced the Armstrong as the Army's dispatch rider's motorcycle. Fitted with document panniers and a carrier for the SA80, the motorcycle is used for a variety of liaison and traffic control tasks.

In Norway the military is ranked as most dangerous workplace - even compared to working on oilplatforms. It is also sad Husqvarna Motorcycles is no longer swedish. They (italian owners) still produce nice enduro/mx bikes, but its kind of weird with an italian Husqvarna!
brgnorway 0 Posted October 13, 2002 This is supposed to be an ex-SAS motorcycle (KTM). http://www.britforces.com/Gallery/motorcycles/ktmxsas.jpg Another picture of the bike Kingbeast provided - and you can clearly see the holster/box for the SA-80: http://www.britforces.com/Gallery/motorcycles/harley.jpg
