Please try this if you can (reproducable bug)

Recommended Posts

If you have a similar system to mine, please try these steps and see if you experience this bug:

My system:

OS: Windows XP Pro

MB: Asus A7M266

CPU: AMD Athlon 1.2ghz

RAM: 512mb PC2100

VID: Suma Geforce3ti-200

SND: Creative Sound Blaster Live (Value)

(no overclocking, latest drivers and bios)

So If you are running Win2k or WinXP, have that motherboard (or similar if you like), any AMD processor, any Nvidia graphics card (particularly geforce3 or 4) and importantly a Sound Blaster Live varient, please do this:

1) Make sure you are using the latest Sound Blaster driver from www.soundblaster.com v5.12.01.0244. Older drivers will not have this effect.

2) Run Operation Flashpoint, or OFP:Resistance (Any version is fine).

3) Options->Audio Disable Hardware Acceleration and Disable EAX. You must not enable either of these options.

4) Grab a helicopter in a mission where you can be shot by a 'shilka'. In the campaign, 'Red Dawn' will work, or in the single missions, 'Sniper Team' is good. (If you chose Sniper Team, just run south west to the base and jump in the Hind, then fly north east to the other enemy base and get shot at by the shilka there). But feel free to use any suitable mission and any version of OFP.

5) As soon as the enemy 'shilka' fires at you from a distance, you will get one of two things:

a) Immediate crash in ctaud2k.sys, or

b) The sound will stop and in a little while or when you exit the game it will crash in someother driver.

I really need someone to try this and confirm it is not just my system, but a bug in either or both OFP and the Creative Sound Blaster Driver. I can reproduce this crash 100%. Don't worry you shouldn't lose data when it crashes (I've crashed it >30 times now) but don't run other apps at the same time.

Thanks, let me know how you go.

(By the way CodeMasters has offered useless support, BIS no support, but Creative Labs has been very supportive but yet to help solve the problem.)
