VT5 - Valtatie 5 | Final release | Finnish terrain for A3

Name of the map is Valtatie 5, or "VT5", and it translates to "Highway 5". I've been working it about a year now and with the help I've received its beginning to be ready for releasing.

Features:

  • Map is made to imitate Finnish landscape and nature with A2 and A3 assets.
  • Terrain area of 6km x 6km, in all 36km^2 and it is built on heightmaps and aerial photographs by National Land Survey of Finland.
  • Terrain contains over 350 000 objects.
  • Map includes forest, fields, lake scenery and small islands. About 30 small farms and farmyards.
  • Highway, asphalt and dirt roads. Paths in the forests.
  • Heightmap is heavily modified for Arma 3 to gain detailed "microterrain" so there is ditches and hummocks for infantry to take cover!
  • Realistic offroad movement for vanilla vehicles. Wheeled vehicles don't have as good offroad capabilities as tracked.

Nättiä!

Those small elevation changes brings a lot life in the forest, small openings and naturally pretty much everywhere :P And those small walking paths are great addition.

Was someone making opened up Chernarus building ports? This one would really love those.

The loading screen is fantastic :D

Nice to hear you like it. Unfortunately there was no real mökkis in vanilla Arma assets. :D

I added v0.1.1 with proper keys.

I've not had the chance to test this yet, but it looks fantastic!

Unfortunately there was no real mökkis in vanilla Arma assets. :D

Since the map requires AiA TP anyway, shouldn't that have some suitable buildings?

Yes but with cell size of 5.859 it really wasn't that detailed. The heightmap is modified manually with L3DT to add elevation changes and ditches etc.

To get all the details from heightmap I first tried to build terrain with cell size of 2.930 but it caused some performance issues.

Actually there really wasn't that much of a choice. Only requirement was to get inside to the building.

Maybe in future versions. I've been thinking retexuring used buildings to give them a bit more Finnish look. The look of the buildings doesn't really bother me.

Took it for a short test spin in the editor. Looks really great. You have nailed the forest feeling.

Nice to see vehicle speed reduced off road, makes roads much more tactical important. I wish all maps had this.

Congratulations on the release!

I would like to point out that Tonto is being very modest with how mature the mod is atm.

I am sure many other modders would have called this version v1.0 already.

At Arma Finland we been playing this map for few weeks already, with around 70players each time.

Its fully playable and mature enough to add to other community's mod repository's!

I like the idea that mod maker release a fully functional mod and then keeps adding / improving the mod by the new ideas / feedback from the community and ofc from own inspiration.

Many have pointed out how amazing the forest is and ill agree. Its so intense to fight in the thick forest!

Just how I imagine it would be in real life.

Here is a video that MrClumsy recorded from one of our mission. I am sure you all can feel the intensity:

It's a TvT mission, something like 30vs50
