why does terrain builder want 12 hours to import a 2gb.png?

it imports a 4gb .bmp in seconds.

Why would you want a 2GB image ? that's gonna be one massive map when released if all your images are that huge, before a single object is even added.

You might want to resize it, mine is 20,480 x 20,480 @ 218 mb

The PNG import in TB is abysmal, I'd just avoid it if I were you. As to why it's so slow, the only person with a concrete answer would be the one who wrote the code that handles PNGs.

I wouldn't be surprised if PNG gets converted to another format first and only processed after that whereas BMP and other formats are handled directly.

yep, im trying .img now. loads quicker...just 10 hrs to generate sat images lol.
