That will be the same for all covenant weapons, I can't imagine a plasma pistol which use bullets. You can also see the result for Plasma Rifle :

It's Scorch from OPTRE Team who have made this. But remember one things, what I show you is a render result, with subdivision surface, what gives this clean and smooth effect. That will not be so clean and smooth in game, finally I think, we shall see good how normal map manages in ArmA 3.

For a release, I hope at the end of June, but I don't know, but probably, yeah, probably. For the moment I don't know if I'm going to focus on Elites, or make vehicles. I think I'm going to model the Spirit because it's something which is really simple to model.

I suggest learning how to manipulate smoothing groups and hard/soft edges. Not sure how to do it in Blender but in 3dsMax its fairly intuitive. There are ways to manipulate it in Object Builder/Oxygen but it doesn't afford as much control.

Yeah I have this option, it's in "Shading" => "smooth" in blender, that really beautiful, you think I can get this render in Oxygen 2 ?

It's really similar to the render with Subdivision surface, without the incredible number of poly of subdivison.

Yeah, I would focus on vehicles before Elites as they add more in terms of function to the mod.

Oh and how will you model the insides like the cockpit for the spirit and phantom? Will you use a PIP display to project what you would see on the outside because I don't believe they have windows or will you simply have a clear surface so you can see out in real time?

If I had some small advice it would be to watch the edge flow. Sub-surf isn't fond of tris. You can use them, if it's really necessary. But generally it gives rise to flattened out areas with defined edges. Instead of smooth continuous surfaces. Using quads and making them flow around the mesh makes things a bit easier to control as well as giving a more desirable result.

Cylinders with ngon and triangle fan caps are particularly prone to problems.

Here's an easy way of dealing with cylinder caps while using sub-surf:

And yes. Al's Arma toolbox will export edges marked as sharp. You don't need to use the edge split modifier. Just make sure the normals(Object data section on the properties panel)are set to auto smooth and the angle is 180.Leave double-sided unchecked.

That looks quite good! You textured it faster than I expected.

So what is going to be in the first release? The first page looks outdated compared to what you have done:

-Type-25 Directed Energy Pistol (Plasma pistol) => Done

-Type-25 Directed Energy Rifle (Plasma rifle) => UV-MAPPING (Wasn't it already finished?)

-Type-33 Light Anti-Armor Weapon (Fuel Rod Cannon) => Done

-Energy Sword =>Done

-CSAT Retextures (Done?)

You now have a ghost too :)

All that stuff should be fine for the first release. Maybe you could try and texture the carbine, so you could add it to the first release too, not a bad idea considering you already have the 3d model done.

Then for second release I would suggest adding the spectre and banshee. So the covenant would have something like a warthog and an aerial vehicle for CAS. When it comes to weapons the storm rifle (riflemen), beam rifle (sniper) and needle rifle (Marksman) would be nice additions.

Halo 2 anniversary spectre and banshee look quite good:

For the third release you could go for the wraith, AA wraith and maybe the phantom and/or spirit. Considering making those complex vehicles is not going to be easy, you could limit the weapons to be done to the Type-52 Guided Munitions Launcher/Explosive (Plasma launcher) , so infantry now can have AA weapons too.

For the fourth release you could go with the shadow and revenant. Shadow would be pretty much an IFV/APC acting similarly as the unsc cougar while the revenant would be a stronger ghost. In this release you would release the last weapons, being the Type-50 Directed Energy Rifle/Heavy (Concussion rifle) and Type-52 Special Applications Rifle (Focus rifle).

Fifth release would add the static weapons. Then if you see it possible and convenient vehicles such as the locust, scarab and vampire. And all that would be left are the character models.

How does that sound to you? Setting objectives for every release is a good way to organize stuff.

And it's the main problem for Elites, for Banshee also. And for Elites that worries me enormously because I find no image of this kind on the Internet.

Also for reference for elites, since you want to do the Wars elites those are difficult to find good ones, but here what I found doing a quick search:

All covenant weapons will have their own projectiles. For images, I have already seen these images, they are slightly in diagonal, I am not a pro it is difficult for me to model something with this kind of images, I have also find this picture :

If you have figures then that is going to be extremely useful. Theronnet could take some ingame screenshoots too if necessary, just like he did with:

screenshots could be taken from 5 different points of view (side, above, under, front and rear) perfectly aligned. So they could be really good references. I haven't found many screenshots about the spectre, AA wraith and shadow. Scarab too, although there are 3d models. then the halo wars locust and vampire don't have many good references. And it would be nice to have references from h3 and halo reach static turrets too.

Ah ok, yeah you confused me at first. Also using the figures as reference is a great idea. And if you want reference photos for projectiles I can link some for you.

IIRC, didn't Drake say he decided against using CQC sights for the weapons since most have integrated optics and they do fine in CQC without any external sights?

I'd prefer them to stay as close to their original designs as possible, since I find they look perfect without any holo-sight crap and whatnot. Suppose it's Drake choice in the long run, though.
