Hello !

I created this thread because I am working in a mod that aims to integrate the faction of the Covenant, and the Covenant Separatists from the Universe of Halo, into ArmA 3.

I'm not very experienced when it comes to 3D modeling, but every day I make progress, I already have started to model weapons such as the Covenant Carbine TYPE-51, as well as the Plasma rifle.

If you want to help me, don't hesitate, you are welcome! If we are more people working in this project , the mod will most likely succeed. The purpose is to add as many covenant stuff as possible, so that you can play with Covenant and have fun! If somebody is experienced at modeling characters such as Elites (It is extremely difficult for me...) don't hesitate to join!

Thus this is what I plan to make, and as I am alone, it will take a long time until this mod gets finished, thus I would try to release the mod even if it contains only two weapons or one, at least you will have something to play with and enjoy, it's better than to wait one or two years.

Characters

-Sangheili (Elite) => Obviously the first ones to make. (I'm sure)

-Kig-Yar and T'vaoan (Skirmishers) => They will come after the elites (Because they are so cool, and are still similar to humans like the elite.)

-Unggoy (Grunt) => They are quite small and weak, but are the most common covenant forces.

{-Mgalekgolo (Hunters)} => They are extremely big and powerful, they cannot get inside most buildings and vehicles.

{-Jiralhanae (Brute)} => Its addition would mean they'll need the weapons and vehicles from Halo 3, that's a lot of work.

{-Yanme'e (Drone)} => Hard to make infantry that flies.

-Type-32 Rapid Assault Vehicle (Ghost)

-Type-46 Infantry Support Vehicle (Spectre)

-Type-26 Assault Gun Carriage (Wraith)

-Type-52 Anti-Aircraft Artillery (AA Wraith)

This list gathers all that I would like to make, I'm not saying that I would manage to make a mod with such contents in one day, I think at first I should be focusing on weapons because it is in my reach and completely practicable for me, I even would dare to say, I could release a weapon's pack by the end of April or later, but that will depend of my motivation.

However, I need help from someone who can make characters, thus don't hesitate to contact me if you want to help me, it will be very cool and there will be cookies!

I'm no model expert but I saw some Covenant species models for SFM and Garry's Mod on garrysmod.org ...I'm not sure if you'd be able manipulate them into Arma 3

Also please please please don't make the Halo 4 remnant of the Covenant, would prefer Covenant Reach style. I eagerly await your first release!

It's a good idea, But I think that they are already very busy with their mod, even if I would like to obtain help to model the characters. I am going to try to contact them.

When I saw that nobody didn't move, I am say that it was necessary to take decision !

Darkedaeron this will be a hard path but from what I see that's a pertty good model, hopefully more pople will volunteer to help both OPTRE and this mod :)

There are quite a lot of models made by fans in websites, you could request their use and hopefully that would make things easier, if more people joins this I can see a future where the covenant is in arma. Also I'm not sure the banshee could work well as an helicopter, I'm pretty sure it would work better as VTOL.

IMO, you should work on making an Elite first. They're the most iconic of the Covenant. Just an Elite with a plasma rifle would be enough to hold me back for a while.

I'm not sure you should use the helicopter flight model for the Banshee. I remember in Halo: Landfall you can see Banshees flying overhead pretty fast like jets...plus Banshees are made for doing strafing runs and bombing attacks. The only problem would be landing, so I guess make it be able to go very slow, or just make it VTOL like nightovizard said

I would say that a VTOL flight model would be the best thing in this context. It didn't work for the Pelican because it was expected to perform quick and precise landings, but the Banshee is a CAS/fire support vehicle so moving fast is key.

I also have a bunch of questions...

1. Do you have the voice protocol stuff sorted out, if not are you going to? Will they speak English or their own language?

2. Are you able to change the colour of blood?

3. With the varying heights and shapes of the Covenant are you going to disable access of certain vehicles for certain species, as well as making uniforms and gear exclusive for each species?

4. Are you going to make each species clothable, example are Sangheili going to look like this without their helmet/body armour?

5. Sangheili are going to be 2.5m tall, right?

6. Will you give each species a special HUD?

7. Are you going to make Covenant structures/objects such as supply crates and watch towers? And maybe even giant static CCS-Class Battlecruisers?

8. Are you going to give each species their own unique animations?

Ammo also intrigues me, most covenant weapons use something like battery charges in most of their weapons instead of ammo, they also don't seem to use any kind of backpacks. (Unless if it could be considered that the grunts have backpacks)

Energy shields and invisibility is something I can hardly imagine in the arma 3 engine, extremely cool.

Also the wraith, is that going to be a tank or artillery? I'm also a bit worried because the projectile of the wraith is quite slow, should be faster in Arma IMO.

Also Shadow transport could be a great counterpart of the UNSC cougar, in these concpts it looks like it has similar passenger seats to the Spirit:

UNSC and covenant are not going to be balanced at all though that is not a bad thing, they are meant to be different, the closest relatives are:

For ammo I was thinking just a very big magazine (a fully charged Plasma Rifle is worth 200 shots I think), or even better, make the magazine like a vehicle's fuel somehow, and make it refuelable at a plasma container thing (those blue glowy things)

Also Unggoys' backpacks only contain methane for breathing and ranger's backpacks are actually jetpacks/jumppacks...and maybe oxygen for space missions

Invisibility is something that has already been done. I don't have the video link on hand. Energy shields could easily be replicated by increased armor and the plasma "bullets" can be edited model tracers.

You may be right about invisibility, I remember a Predator mod with that feature, but you weren't invisible to AI think. Increasing the armor would work though I would love to see a shield effect when hit too. I have seen so many types of tracers in arma scifi mods, so I agree plasma tracers are possible, though its speed would have to be tweaked.

Yes that could work, find a battery to recharge the weapon like if it was ammo, the magazine would be quite large depending the weapon, plasma rifle and carabine are different in this sense. covenant ammo boxes could have both ammo and batteries. The only thing is that Overheat should be applied to some covenant weapons somehow, infantry firing 200 bullets without having to reload or wait sounds OP.
