Operation Trebuchet - Total conversion mod for Arma 3

Recommended Posts

What exactly is your issue? I've heard nothing but good things about it. If it's regarding the VTOL, that simply isn't happening.

The Pelican is absolutely perfect the way it is. Turning it into a VTOL is going to absolutely ruin it and/or take up way too much time from the devs to get it working just right as a VTOL. Maybe way down the road it could be researched, but a lot of R&D has already gone into it from what I can tell and everyone seems to be satisfied with it except for one person.

Forky really wont let this VTOL thing go will he

My only critique thus far is the bulkiness of the ODST armour. When that's tighter with a few pouches and some nice camos, the ODSTs will be oo la la

Well we can see in Reach that it's a very bulky set of armor, as opposed to the more slim H3 ODSTs. It all really depends on what style is chosen, if it's the Reach ODSTs then they need to be bulky.

I hate to be a bitch, but...

What you are doing could be illegal :/

How do we (as the BI community, forums, and the developers) know that what you are doing is legal?

Can you provide proof of this other than your disclaimer (Microsoft copyright etc, not that) otherwise I'll call in a Moderator to deal with the thread.

We do not accept 3rd party models, mods, games etc unless the author/company allows It to be shared, modified, etc.

Not gonna lie, its a little funny how all the pics are of asses and groins. Thanks for the pics, regardless.

The reason Is cause it gives you the best view of the Camo without the armor being in the way

They are making everything from scratch, they haven't taken anything from the video game itself. Just like the sins of the prophets guys

With all due respect, you have no idea what you're talking about. All models and textures are made from scratch. We have not ripped any models or textures from the actual games. We have researched the legality of this entire project extensively. Our project falls under Microsoft's Game Content Usage Rules.

Perhaps this should be posted on the front page so we don't have people trying to throw rule books at you.

Actually about to go test this out myself, not sure if it's worth deleting JSRS2 though.

Ive got to say that the new Marksmen DLC armors fit your Marine BDU's (even the heavy ones) very well. There is little of an actual clipping.

XV0PT13t.jpg

Now, pretty, pretty please, with a cherry on top, could you give us (Very) Heavy variant of BDU with bracers from ODST armor? I mean the forearms armor, just recolor it to fit other marine armor pieces. Those bracers are the only thing Im missing for my "future soldier project".

The real destination of that vest is the IOTV, (Improved outer tactical Vest) Its what I wore in Iraq during my deployment

Now look at these Reach style Marines and Troopers.... I don't see bracers

http://imgur.com/a/3eOzT

Now if they did the Insurrection Era Marine armor, you'll get your bracers

---------- Post added at 03:25 ---------- Previous post was at 03:12 ----------

But looking at the vest from Reach and the shoulder pads, and then looking at the IOTV from the Marksman DLC. It really does seem the shoulder pads are attached to the chest armor like the Dapps( The IOTV's shoulder pads) are to the ITOV

http://i.imgur.com/ZAXWsP6.jpg (250 kB)

http://i.imgur.com/aC6UBYe.jpg (218 kB)

and what looks like a light ballistic vest under the chest armor and extends out to were the shoulder pads wrap around it

http://i.imgur.com/kooVLTG.jpg (259 kB)

http://i.imgur.com/3lLu7By.jpg (228 kB)

http://i.imgur.com/xfYbJ61.jpg

so thinking of it, would it be wiser to add the shoulder pads to the armor chest pieces themselves like the new vest in the marksman dlc

On the TEI forums some people were discussing how to mount the rocket/missile pods onto the gunship pelican. I haven't found any posts indicating whether this had been solved or not, so I wanted to put forward an idea I had. Please ignore this if you guys have already come up with a solution.

The pods seen on the pelicans in H3 are fixed to the underside of the wing, but as we know this would be hard to use since the wings/thrusters rotate on the pelican. So I had been thinking about it and I remembered that the Apache has pivoting hard points that allow rockets and missile racks to angle up and down (And I think the Russian KA-50 has this too, not a 100% sure).

The pelican in H:R has weapons pylons that can easily be seen in a picture of one. So I was thinking why not put whatever weapons on pylons like this and make them so that they're always stabilized towards the horizon in a fashion akin to the Apache hard points? I don't have any modding experience with Arma 3 so I'm not sure how difficult something like this might be, but I figured I would run it across you guys anyhow.

(Sorry for the lack of links, this is my first forum post so I'm not allowed to put any in. )

Looks like the pelican has brackets to carry missiles and rockets to me

All Im asking is simply to take bracers from ODST and put them on heavy marine BDU. I dunno give that very heavy BDU to shotgun troopers for additional armor. Anything, I just want those bracers. Had I the original models (or even if I could edit the release stuff) I would add them myself.

Theronnett check out the jungle marines in halo cea. They wear the same marine bdu but without any armor, just the tactical vest.

I understand, But even the heavy troopers in reach do not have them

Yes, so what i'm saying is why not make those able to angle up and down automatically with the horizon to somewhat counter the effects of the pelican maneuvering?

(Thanks for posting that link btw ^^)

Actually, they still have a chest-piece on, but without the armor plate

So they have the exact same vest, but took off the front plate

Well yeah but without the breast plate it looks like a ballistic vest. The shoulder and thigh hardpoints are also visible.

So..... what are we talking about? Exactly?

Oh found a picture of the Dapps the Shoulder pads attach too, and they are connected to the vest

http://i.imgur.com/7xlfwhJ.png

So basically The Vest Has Dapps just like the marksman DLC vest do, but the UNSC can attach armor to it in the form of the shoulder armor plate

So what it looks like, the Marines in the swamps are not even wearing Upper fatigues, they are going with just a T-shirt under the vest

So basically the swamp troopers are doing this

and the heavy troopers are doing this

Im not asking for anything lore breaking. Let us just pretend those bracers on heavy armor would be a "personal touch". I just want them, thats all there is to it :p.

As for Shoulder pads being part of the vest. Well personally I would like to at least have a "dev" version like the old style pads that I could use with other vests and stuff.

BTW: you guys may want to go through the vests and uniforms and possibly make them compatible with vanilla style vests (mainly talking about fixing clipping issues). That IOTV does look cool on top of halo uniform and it would be nice to have an ability to mix and match equipment just for giggles.

Oh if you still have that BDU normal, specular maps and my digital camo textures. Well if you do feel free to use them any way you see fit.

It's a total conversion mod. Making it compatible with vanilla objects kind of defeats the purpose. I don't speak for the rest of the team but I doubt nothing will come from it.

All Im asking is tweaking models a bit so the vests and BDU's dont clip so much with vanilla stuff, that is all. Same way I could wear the new Marksmen DLC vest with heavy Marine BDU and it actually worked really well together. I kind of fail to see how something like this would "defeats the purpose" of this mod.

You're asking to divert time and effort from important assets so that you could put marine vests on NATO units? It seems silly. I'd rather see them focus their attention on the important things. Like the sniper rifle, or the sniper rifle, maybe even the sniper rifle.

Or the falcon.

-EDIT-

Or the sniper rifle.

This is priceless considering your history, Ranwer. Also, don't use "We". You do not speak for BI, the community, or addonmakers. Nobody speaks for the community or addonmakers, and only BI employees can speak for BI. This project doesn't violate any forum rules. I know because I had to be the one to burst the initial bubble way back when the idea was for TEI to be a MANW entry. Since this project is noncommercial, and is not generating any money in any way, they're in the clear. Not only that, but they're making all the content themselves (in some cases it's been donated to them) with the help of a crapload of reference pictures supplied by both devs and supporters. So before you go trying to throw your nonexistent authority around in an effort to start shit, I'd advise you to actually make sure you have some semblance of ground to stand on.

Yeah.... I might use the vanilla vest on the innes to get that look form the bootcamp comic. But that's about it. Taking attention away from the actual game progress for someone's pet project seems like a huge waste of resources

Not really a huge waste, but still not worth the effort imo. Sorry Taro

@Devs. So I was playing around with the camera on reach and I was able to have my camera at the the right spot to spot the troopers spawn with a arms out T stance. Not really T, more of a upside down V. But Close to T. I wasn't able to get any for I had to go to work. But would pictures of that nature help in anyway?
