what cheap, immersion features would be good for Arma?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

so we've seen some great features come in to arma by way of DLC,

Firing from vehicles, sling loading (Helicopters)

Zeus multiplayer

gun-play improvements

weapon-resting/bipods

what feature do you think is not resource intensive (consider the 31 rounds in weapon example given by BIS), is encouraging to multiplayer and teamwork like the idea of marksmen DLC and helicopters DLC, but not complex or unrewarding to incorporate to arma?

what about an improved medical/casualty system, not to the same extent as some mods go, that spectrum should be left to mods, but what about loss of arm movements if hit in the arm? blood trails, bandaging, something simple to do in combat, but more immersive than the current system. what about buddy-dragging thats better implemented than arma 2?

what about a more human-like AI - AI should trip and fall (and quickly get up) when under fire and trip over rocks, they should swear (not given on the radio, so it only adds immersion, not cluttering up your UI.) comments on the weather, terrain, a dead car or person they come across "poor bastard" etc.)

and underwater combat? since the Alpha it seems its been ignored? what else can we add?

basically, little features that are cheap to implement, but have the effect of improving the immersion or feeling of combat.

Hello,

Better nigh vision= full screen, noise... etc. Option that servers can lock brightness and gamma so we get good night game play = no more gamma cheating. Adjustable FoV. Flir made better so it isn't god mode. Vehicle physics so you cant flip tank over so easily.

Realistic blood. A 50 cal should cause much more mess, for istance.

Night vision should automatically disable when you are using a scope. There is no better and cheaper trade-off for NV. It makes sense, you can't look through a scope when you have night vision goggles.

Immersion breaking things for me are HUD Icons, Text in center of screen and 3rd person (Barbie Doll mode).

The possibility for items on players to break if they get shot. eg. if your weapon gets shot it might stop working, same with your helmet mounted NVGs, radio...and maybe some other stuff. Adding this would make people not want to get shot even more.

How about ragdoll physics.

The cheapest kind, I don't care. But currently the game is lacking physics and a lot of animations.

Everyone knows here what it looks like when you die in a helicopter and fall down like a log, parachute and land like a log, rotate your charachter without him moving his leg/

Fixing a truck as a repair specialist by injecting something in your leg.

This game needs physics and animations pronto, coupled with a desynchronization fix and we're golden. I know the desync issue is not easily fixed, but animations and physics is something that should

be a top priority as it really messes with the immersion of the game.

I think what I had in mind here is small improvements that have a big impact, IE: Firing from vehicles, its a small thing, but it adds alot onto functionality.

server locks/adjustable FOV are pretty insignificant and should (obviously) improved over-time, not as part of a specific DLC

improved nightvision? by making it full screen? nah, its more immersive having only part of your screen in nightvision mode. but that's my opinion.

FLIR fixes would be ineresting, what about body clothes that reduce your heat signiture. so AAF/CSAT troops less visible, but terrorists FIA are more visible?

that would be a minor feature..

blindfire, jump/climb, magazine repack and ffs pls fix the impenetrable bamboo bush

blind-fire isn't usable really, AI and most players arent affected by suppression like in COD/battlefield/rainbow six, as those games are more close quarters where that would be effective. I think this shouldn't be improved.

jump/climb, nah, sure its immersive, but this would be pretty difficult to implement if I take BIS/s side here, and it doesnt add any direct benefits to gameplay in my opinion

magazine repack, I see its use, but I dont think its of huge impact on the game, just fire off the 4 rounds you have left in the clip at your enemies. I really dont think this should be an advertised new DLC feature. its too small

bamboo bush would be a bug fix, not a DLC new feature.

Realistic blood. A 50 cal should cause much more mess, for istance.

I see where you are going, there maybe should be a big more visible deterioration of an enemy's ability when we shoot them, but its too minor of a feature.

Night vision should automatically disable when you are using a scope. There is no better and cheaper trade-off for NV. It makes sense, you can't look through a scope when you have night vision goggles.

pretty sure thats a feature already

Immersion breaking things for me are HUD Icons, Text in center of screen and 3rd person (Barbie Doll mode).

these features are neccessary for playing the game. in real life, I would know immediately what stance I am in, but for a game, we need these indicators to help. removing these features would defintely hurt the games immserion. pretty sure you can turn some of these off though.

3rd person I use alot just to view my character and is optional anyway( i believe) also, its a small feature, not a DLC headline

The possibility for items on players to break if they get shot. eg. if your weapon gets shot it might stop working, same with your helmet mounted NVGs, radio...and maybe some other stuff. Adding this would make people not want to get shot even more.

a cool suggestion, but maybe this could be expanded, what about more weapon customization? but it wouldnt have a big impact on gameplay like firing from vehicles for example.

How about ragdoll physics.

The cheapest kind, I don't care. But currently the game is lacking physics and a lot of animations.

we've come along way frtom OFP/Arma and even arma 2 with regard to animations. not perfect, but damn, I am very happy with this so far. ragdoll is difficult to implement for MP and its current implementation is pretty decent. not perfect, but its ok. i think there should be other features that have more priority.

Everyone knows here what it looks like when you die in a helicopter and fall down like a log, parachute and land like a log, rotate your charachter without him moving his leg/

I dont understand? vehicle physics? they already have put extensive work into vehicle physics that it could come to just subjective interpretation. its fine how it is IMHO.

Fixing a truck as a repair specialist by injecting something in your leg.

here I agree, the medical and repair animations/system needs work. something else should be done.

This game needs physics and animations pronto, coupled with a desynchronization fix and we're golden. I know the desync issue is not easily fixed, but animations and physics is something that should

be a top priority as it really messes with the immersion of the game.

desync fixes are hard to work on, and its something to do over time,

animation fixes, I think they have improved so much since arma 1 that they are pretty much perfect, there are some niggles, like the first aid and repair fixes.

Steele6, when you die in a helicopter and fall out of it, flat like you're laying in an invisible coffin is not what I call physics/ animations.

Go into third person mode while crouched and turn your charachter, do you notice he turns 360degrees without the use of his legs? Like he's floating / levitating.

What about landing with a parachute? the charachter freezes when he hits the ground then you get a prone animation. It's linked very cheaply together.

What about dragging or carrying another charachter? there are no animations there whatsoever. Look I really love this game and want to see the best version of it.

Right now there is a gross lack of physics and animations not just for charachters but also for vehicles. The strangest things happen when a car hits another car or a rock.

You can clearly see it's not a real physics engine but scripted sequences tied together. I just hope they add something to fix this soon. Concerning desync, as game breaking as it is, I understand it's hard but that is a big NO NO.

It's not fun riding in a vehicle and seeing yourself warp or the AI warp, it breaks the game. These three points, physics, desync and animations are what bother me most cause they're so detrimental and important for immerssion /gameplay (desync).

You can clearly see it's not a real physics engine

Sorry but that just isnt true... the game uses Nvidia Physx

While the game does have fake seeming and shitty physics, they are not tied togheter scripted sequences

That is just plain wrong sorry.

Alright well then I am mistaken about that. But it sure looks like it.

VON --voice-over-net-- is in desperate need of a fix..., and perhaps a rethink & redo.

Without a stable, dependable VON, we play the game as deaf mutes.

knifes, blades, bow etc

Flay came out with a really nice Archery mod. It'd be cool if something like that came out in Arma for civilians.

Anyhow, though, VON fix, or overhaul. Similar to Task Force Radio, just more intuitive, and integral in Vanilla Arma 3.

Also, get rid of ammo count. No one knows how much ammo they have unless they're counting. We'll know where out of ammo when it clicks.

and finally, full integration of TrueSKY. Because we could have every single weather feature possible via editor and scripts without the need of third party mods just for weather.

I bring this up in every wishlist thread.. But.. Cheek weld. I'd like to hold a rifle like a rifle and not a pistol. It'd be the cheapest and easiest thing to implement and have a huge impact on the immersion of the game. It would also be nice to have variants of the fixed power optics to have 100m zeros with reticles to reflect it.

imo if they worked on the AI for a solid month that would suffice... imagine what could improve

i know im just stating a forced feature that would immerse all players into the game regardless of them wanting it or not.

Unfortunately the OP seems to be fundamentally off in that only the devs know how "cheap" any of this stuff would be to implement...

To delve bit deeper, the bipods development took at least 3months while not including pre production

(Research, proof of concept, scripts...) which would be like 4 months.According to read of Sitreps.
