Arma 3 APPCRASH in kernelbase.dll after changing monitor

Recommended Posts

Hi,

1st of all, my arma3 worked fine up to 5 hours ago.

The only thing which changed is my monitor: i went from a fullhd 120hz monitor to a 1366x768 60hz one.

I tried to start arma3 and it crashes. On the same pc, it does not happen with neither arma2, neither dayz standalone, neither a lot of other games.

I also tried to edit the cfg, changing manually the resolution and the refresh rate, with no result.

Here are a copy paste of the details of the crash:

Going back to the old monitor its not an option, it's dead.

So if anyone has an idea about how to solve it, it would be great to hear about it. To me, this crash doesn't make any sense at all.

P.S: im not sure if this is the right place for reporting a problem. If there is anywhere else where i can get assistance please let me know.

Ok this is super weird:

trying various things, i found out that deleting the arma3 folder inside appdata solved the problem. And it was working fine for few hours, i was even closing and reopening a3 few times.

Then, for the first time in few years, electricity power at home went down, for like a pair of seconds, while i was playing a3. Since when i opened back the PC, A3 is doing again the same error, and every other game, dayz and a2 included, is working instead fine.

This is the new error:

Unluckily this time the appdata a3 folder doesnt have any involvement in the crash, i deleted it again and it didnt fix it.

This does make even less sense then before!

Started getting the same issue today. Unfortunately I did three things at once today - updated my .net framework, updated my visual ++ and updated arma III.

Honestly one thing i didn't notice is arma3 updating in those 5 hours. Cant say if it did update or not from yesterday night version.

But the error looks very similar.

Try doing what i did at first, deleting the arma3 folder inside your appdata folder

Hey Spacemarine, open Steam, goto Arma III, right click, hit properties, and click betas. Enter the code Arma3Legacy1.36, it will give you access to the previous build, being 1.36 in the beta dropdown menu, click and download it and then try running A3. Worked for me, so at this stage, the new patch is not accessible to me and considered 'broken'. I may try to re-download it overnight and see if it works.

Ok, interesting update:

Switching back from 1.36 to 1.38 made arma3 working again, BUT i think is just a temporary solution.

This is a quote from a mantis report i did about this problem

Any chance you've been using this tweak?

http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?177454-a-simple-registry-tweak-for-increased-performance [^]

The monitor changing might have been just coincidence because your problem sounds very much the same as with that tweak. It isn't working anymore and is causing Arma 3 to crash instantly especially fresh started computer but computer that has run for some time Arma 3 might work without problems.

Arma 3 working on 1.36 really makes me think it's that tweak that's causing the problem.

It's very likely that im running this tweak, so it might be the cause also of your problem.

Im gonna keep it until it will crash again.

If it does, ill try to uninstall it and verify if there is any correlation.

You might try as well

P.S: greenfist: yes, very likely

ok, new update:

it crashed again, after uninstalling the tweak is now working.

I guess that was the problem

Same thing for you have you checked if you're using the tweak? http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?177454-a-simple-registry-tweak-for-increased-performance

Very simple to check:

Open regedit (Windows key+R) type regedit and then click OK

Now just browse HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\arma3.exe

If you've UseLargePages REG_DWORD there and it's data is 0x0000001 (1) then that's the cause of your problem

Simple change is needed:

Right click it and then Modify... and change the value data to 0 and click OK

Now it should show 0x00000000 (0) in the data and your Arma 3 should now work.

If your UseLargePages is already 0 or you don't have the whole registry then it's something else.

I reinstalled 1.38 and it works, but as Space Marine said, it could be temporary, so I followed St. Jimmy suggestion and found it to indeed be 0x0000001, and am now adjusting to 0.

Thanks for all involved.

Love this community.

I also had to disable the large page registry entry. Thanks for info.

I now have about 10 fps less than before :(

This! This! This! This! This! Oh my god I've been racking the internet for a solution to the KernelBase.dll APPCRASH for arma3.exe !!! I don't know how you found out how to fix this, but thank you so so much! :yay:
