Special Forces Mods?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm going to go over what I'd like to do and how I hope to achieve it.

Firstly, I like my Special Forces game play. The slow and well planned routes, the stealth tactics and the level of efficiency that goes along with being at that level. For ArmA there are many mods coming out that well Don't seem to be changing the pace for people who like this sort of game play style. I'm going to compose a list of equipment that I would like to see added into the game, but I'm not posting this in requests, purely because this topic can be easily used for all modders either adding/ or thinking of adding anything on the list to possibly say "I'll do that" if they're interested in helping. Over the next week or so I'm going to be researching uniforms, vests, backpacks, helmets, gadgets etc to see if I can start slowly adding things to this genre with people's help. I'm not a major 3d specialist, or texture artist, hell I'm neither but I learn fast, and so I'd like to know if anyone would like to consider helping?

The units I'm interested in recreating are:

British:

SAS

SBS

SRR

SFSG

Canadian:

CANSOFCOM

SOG

SERT

CSOR

American:

DEVGRU

SEALS

MARSOC

5th SFG

Germany:

KSK

Polish:

GROM

More Units will come as a continue research :)

By the look of this at first id write it down to one of those "stupid list" posts where someone just writes a bunch of stuff they suposedly want to make, but Yoshi i remember you posted some stuff in that challenger thread and you seemed to have some actual experience so good luck. :)

Maybe at a most basic level you could start just importing their insignias into the game.

@darkside he said what he is interested in making... Not what you might want nessicarily .

I don't know the Canadian Special forces off the top of my head, And I won't be doing anything major as of yet, I'm looking to see what camo patterns I want, unit insignia's and a list of potential equipment for each to then plot what to do first.

Oh well, thanks. Not a single Canadian unit was mentioned. That's new.

And French Special Forces ?

They are more considered than the Canadian special forces...

So let people do what they want with her mod.

Nice to see you have a spark to get going, I wish you good luck on your process.

If's I'm correct, the person that made the Mk18 mod is converting his amazing Aussie SF over to A3

EDIT:

http://i.imgur.com/LRhzJb7.jpg That's them in A3

http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=20267 Arma 2 release.

They look really really nice, though they are SOTG, and not one you listed.

So essentially what you're saying is, this is you?

Did I say I telling anyone what to do? if your referring to the comment "I'll do that" it's just an expression. If you don't know what that is you should take a look at a dictionary.

This topic is a way for me to sort out from small to major idea's to add to game myself. I've 3d'd before but not clothing and such so it's a learning curve for me. Coding, never done, Texturing, never done. What I mean when I say other modders, is if their working on something already then their welcome to give me a buzz to either join the topic, or simply post their work.

As for progress on research, the first post has been edited to include the main focus for me personally in terms of units to look at.

Concerning the French SF, team OFrP is working on it with their mod.

I'm working on something along those lines for UK special forces for my campaign story that could fit your needs.

I could (once finished with my characters) create a more generic UK troop types config without the "section 20 " refrences

Just working on the various uniforms and camouflage patterns with simple retextures of the A3 models. As that's as far as my skills go, so no modelling of anything :D

In a similar vain to Niko's US pack and Teriyaki's uniform pack but with a more british flavour to the camo patterns.

There will be a mixture of desert and woodland styles with some solid colours too. (OG, Tan, Etc.) And some like the desert multicam in the pictures that are more ficticious.

In both nato and indep uniform styles.

Not sure on what if any weapons they would get. I like them unarmed so I can add mission specifics easier without the need to strip them first

It's still needing some work done to the textures and then ugh! The config work. :butbut: Which is where everything slows down :D but most of the legwork is done just the tidying up and squaring away

where the visuals are concerned.

They're all from before 2009. The pictures are from the Iraq war and British combat operations there ceased in April 2009. In fact looking through the dates of the reference images on my harddrive, I've had copies of some of those pictures since at least 2008.

These are ca.2013 Afghanistan:

As you can see, a lot changed.

It was just humor. Hehe

PS. Good luck with the mod. I really like the more slow, well thought out missions that are done mainly by Special Operations gaming style. As of some advice, it would be notable that light, but powerful gear come to play in such play-styles.

Alright guys, so I've been snooping around the web and have found my first role to work on. Snipers, which will feature a few new items and will be changed to suit all special forces units on the list.

The attachments you see on this weapons system will be my first items to model. I'll post screen shots when I've got a decent model done of each.

Here is the Suppressor for the Cheytac M200. It's just over 1k poly I think. Here is a WIP screen shot.

Awesome. Are you going to make the suppressor model the cloth covered version? Or perhaps one plain, one with cloth on it? Looking good so far.

I was thinking about doing the suppressor with the mirage cover on it but I don't know how to model it so it looks like fabric, I'm still working on the main body of the weapon but the work is slow due to having a migraine for 5 days now.

here is the latest version,

I'll see how I feel tomorrow and hopefully go about getting more done, but at the moment I'm barely able to look at the screen.

A little curious which country's SF are using this?I had seen SAS using this in Call Of Duty but I don't think they are using it in real life.

I know that feeling man. Try having a concussion for more than a month!;)

What i suggest, is looking at the shape of that suppressor with the cover. Try mimicking that shape to the model, and once you get to the point of texturing, i'm absolutely certain that either it won't be that hard to find a cloth texture to begin with (similar if not the same as that one in the pic) or it won't be that hard to get help from some of the other professional texture experts out there.
