Red dawn-what the hell do i do?

I've been stuck for nearly a year on Red Dawn, the final mission on the original campaign.

I just don't know what I've got to do-the first time I drove to Guba's house but he wasn't there......and then I went up to the port at north but he wasn't there either.... Please help me!

Yeah, just played through that mission myself. Loaded up two soldiers in the jeep, went crashing over to the tank base, stole a tank, went tooling around the island blowing shit up, heading to the port at the tip of the island. Waited there for a half hour in accellerated game time, never showed, was told he escaped.

My only guess is that he's not leaving from the obvious port. The island defenses are just strong enough that I really don't feel like exploring and trying to figure this one out on my own.

Try using the search engine and doing a search for "dawn" there are piles of threads about this one and if you take the time to look you'll probably find the answer

I finally reached the Red Dawn mission too and I also got problems to finish it.

I tried it many times, but never had a clue what exactly to do, so I searched for a solution.

Searched for Dawn, Guba or SCUD in this forum, but only this thread popped up.

But I found a FAQ with little help:

But I never find the SCUD and after a certain time it starts and the mission is over.

Never any hint or mentioning of Guba.

Using the Hind didn`t helped to find the SCUD - or running around by foot, turning every stone around in the hope to find the *#@%$ SCUD:

The "easy" way to finish Red Dawn : Mi24 way

At the start of the mission, move all your squad in the M113 , then drive (or order the driver to go) quickly to the russian base (at the West of your starting position) at the Ed46 point of your map (there is 2-3 russians soldier there, your M113 gunner will remove them quickly)

Then disembark everyone.

Yourself board the fuel truck , drive it next to the Hind just outside this base , go in pilot position of the hind, refuel it .

You can call your squad to go in cargo position in the hind now.

Fly directly to Guba starting base (Bh42 is the position on the map) , ou will notice a T80 on the destroyed city before the base, ignore it for now.

Locate the UAZ in front of Guba base, destroy it , Guba is not aboard yet if you follow the instructions and make it there quickly (best is to fire manually, the not very skilled IA sometime kills Guba )

Now you can kill with the 30mm gun the soldiers escorting the general (be carefull to not slay Guba if you want to have the best score )

The T80 will arrive to the rescue, just destroy it with what weapon you want (do not lose Guba with your eyes , he will try to run to the north of the island by feet , now that his UAZ is out .. lol )

Now, just land with your Mi24 , run next to Guba (if you lose too much time, he will be up the hill (or close to the fence near the fuel station, and there is some russian infantry there) . The speech cutscene will begin.

After that, order him (he joined your squad) to board the Hind in cargo position .

Now , to destroy the scud launcher, just fly to the other side of the island direction total east (you will fly over usa territory , so you will be safe)

Now go north with your chopper flying above the sea (fly 100+ meters of the coast) , with that you will avoid Shilkas fire

After the easy trip above the sea, go to those hills

Hill Position Id21 or Hill Position Id19 on the map .

The scud launcher is exactly on one of those hills (sorry i dont remember the exact one, but they are side by side, you cant miss the scud)

Now it is up to you.

If you only found one thread then you didn't search right You need to make sure you choose "the beginning" for the period to search, this search is for "dawn" in the title only and you will see there are 7 threads including this one, that isn't counting the others where the original poster hasn't used dawn in the title

D`Oh! And this happened to me who has already more than 1200 posts at the Gran Turismo Forum!

Looks like I`m used that search engines of boards start at the beginning.

Oh no! it`s all the fault of my 14" TFT display of my notebook!

That also explains why I`m not so good in OFP SP...

i did it the other way around:

got the hind and then flew to destroy the scud.

btw, every time i played the mission the scud wasn't on a hill, it was close to a forest.

with the scud destroyed i proceeded to nail the boat which was located south. once the boat is destroyed, Guba will stop at the destroyed city on the coast and just wait there for you to find him.

i took my time and shot up every unit i could find, if you run out of ammo there is another hind in a poorly guarded base.

All I did was to quickly jump into a Jeep with 2 other black op Law soldiers and head for the long main road along the north of the map fast.

Park the jeep behind some trees, and then wait on the edge of the trees looking onto the road to wait for Guba to pass.

As his car comes by, I shoot at the tires with my MP5, it stops.

I take out the other Russian soldiers and stop Guba, my 2 other Black op/Law men are there on the hill to back me up incase an enemy tanks comes on in, (which usually does if you take too long to nab Guba.

Grab guba, and head back into the trees before the enemy tanks comes rolling by. Hop back into the Jeep with guba and your guys, and make back for the base as fast as possible while staying offroad to avoid drawing enemy fire.

Drop em all off at base and then head for the SCUD as fast as you can. Take it out and hide and wait for mission to end.

Bing bang boom, a perfect fast paced Spec Op kidnapping mission done quickly without drawing alot of attention.

Ok yea i know this post is old but i gota add a new way of finishing it

After stealing the russian heli i took of and destroyed guba's uaz before he could get in it (took out a spetz also)

landed, destroyed the t80 with 3 laws then killed last spetz then got guba, jumbed back in heli with all my team, flew across the sea at safe distance to avoid shilkas then took a left to the scud site, left again to the forest and ejected, funny anough the heli nose dived with the crew in it and wedged between the trees then i ordered the relitively un hurt team mates including guba but guba made a run for it so i shpt him before sneaking to the hill looking down at the scud and took it out with a law, mission complete i got lucky on that 1 heh sorry my screen of guba jumping from the tree lodged heli i lost cos i forgot to save the image before turning of the pc :/
