Kunduz, Afghanistan [10km] v1.20

Recommended Posts

xnl0NrT.jpg

With over one year of work and many failed attempts I'd like to thank Bohemia Interactive, contributors and the Arma 3 terrain modding community for their part in the successful completion of this terrain.

The goal was to create a detailed Afghani green-zone to help represent real world campaigns and missions undertaken in similar areas against a resurgent Taliban. I've always felt the Afghani green-zone could be done differently since the release of Arma 3. Despite the specific location of the terrain it should be appropriate for the following countries: Germany, Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, United States & some ISAF Forces.

The community we have here is truly special, as long as we continue to collaborate and pool our knowledge anything is possible! A big thank you to Bohemia Interactive too, never give up! Building a terrain for Arma little lone anything else is very difficult so be sure to support any modders you see!

History of Kunduz

The War in Afghanistan and specifically within the Kunduz Province saw German Forces fighting the Taliban for over 10 years, for more information see the links below.

This can be done on all types of walls.

FOB Clearings for Construction:

FOB Area 2: http://i.imgur.com/FHG7FXJ.jpg

You will have to construct the FOB's as i've provided the foundation, this is the best way because there are mods for it and allows custom-ability.

A Kunduz deployment story from a fellow Arma player from the US, Brandon:

Hey I was deployed to Kunduz (Konduz) Afghanistan for 10 months! I can't believe people actually know this place exists! I worked with a German Combat Controller (Air Traffic Control) who had been there for a good amount of the 10+ years. His name was Rainer. There was a scrapped airplane on the airfield with his name on it. I remember him placing the barrel of his G36 on my knee and staring at me to see if I trusted him. Thank you for recreating Kunduz. What an interesting choice. Thank you.

Is this standalone or does it require AiA tp etc?

Also if it uses JBAD buildings, is that included, required etc?

Look at the size... almost certainly stand-alone - my guess anyway - won't hurt if it's ran with AiA tp... doubt it anyway

Standalone, no other requirements. :)

Dropbox has suspended my public links for excessive traffic, if someone could upload to another mirror I would appreciate that! I will try to find other mirrors myself in the mean time.

There's different reasons why I love this map:

- It's standalone! ( finally, no AiA bugs, proper gameplay, fully A3 :) )

- It has a good amount of detail, but not enough objects to provoke graphic lag. It's really nice balanced ( tho I suffer a few fps drop ).

- It feels organic. The object placing doesn't seem forced nor artificial.

I like the way it's going... Couldn't find any secret hidey holes... as much as I looked.

Not a lot of hard cover in the open areas, well not yet anyway.

Like the colour schemes and the sat texture is really nice.

Keep it up !

How does the AI handle.

The old PR maps had horrible AI problems.

Really looking forward to giving this a spin. Absolutely loved all the previous PR maps from A2, true works of art. Congrats on the release, and thank you.

Can't stand it when members upload maps that require AiA (which I don't like using), but this is STAND-ALONE! :DD Finally a map I can play without having to download 4GB of other files first. ;)

1.3 gigs for a single map is bad form *cough* Borhnholm *cough*. I mean, who is going to download this map who doesn't already have AIATP for cherno, taki, fallujah, etc. A.I.A. variant when?

I have to admit I don't get why people have an issue with AiA_tp. yes it's been buggy, but only the most recent iteration which was patched within 72 hours.

Those that say they hate to dl 4gb before they can use another map... Again I don't get the logic. AiA - is ONE DL + small map files at a max of 500mb vs approx 1.8GB EACH time a new map is published ?

I'm not overly fussed either way, I run an open Network with no limits, but surely one large generic DL + small map file DLs would be better for 99% of people ?

Off topic, but I just don't get people's argument at all on this.
