config_factions question

I have a question about the config_factions file in the warfare2.pbo.

I know you can select 2 factions on 1 side.

for example I have usmc and cdf on 1 side. But does this mean they both use the same hq and barracks etc.

or do they start out as 2 teams that are allied to each other.

Is it also possible to for example put the guerillas to the east side?

Without calling a custom structures config, they'll both use the same structures.

Though I haven't tried it, I'm pretty certain CDF and Insurgent factions can be set up to have their own factories using a custom config_structures.sqf called by custom init. I believe the side commander would have option to build one barracks or the other at base. You'd have to add the entire array of base structures and defenses for the faction, the core only lists USMC, RU and Resistance. But it would mostly be a copy-n-edit exercise on the class names and factions. Key part would be making sure the names and descriptions are different and identifiable, and changing [[Localize "STR_FN_USMC"]] to [[Localize "STR_FN_CDF"]].

They would function as allies, being that one MHQ is designated for the principal faction, which becomes the target for destruction and loss of the game.

In my experience the factories filter out soldiers whose design config show they belong to the wrong faction. According to comments in one of the scripts, It's done to prevent "false flag" units from appearing in gameplay. They won't appear in the factory list and can't be bought. There's a way to add vehicles of a different faction but AI can't buy them. I borrowed a couple aircraft from RU and INS for the Resistance side, but so far only players can buy them.
