DIH Africa III:

The Congo Crisis

v76tNHa.jpg

A small total modification for ArmA3

covering the Congo Crisis 1960-1965

by Dimitri_Harkov

A first release will concentrate on the early events of the crisis - mainly the Katanga Secession.

Planned features:

  • 5 major factions:
    Force Publique/Armée Nationale Congolaise
Gendarmerie Katangaise and their allied mercenaries
UN troops (probably Swedes, Irish and Indians)
    Armée Populaire de Libération
    Belgian Army
  • a unique and diverse collection of equipment for many gameplay options
  • Terra Atormentada II: an African map, currently about 55 km² in size, but expanding ;)
  • support for popular 3rd party addons like TFAR and AGM

Some WIP pictures:

Designer's Notes:

Much like its predecessor in the series - Guerra do Ultramar for A2OA - this mod covers a little known war with almost endless gameplay options.

It is a war of small units that cover vast distances - something that seems to be perfectly suited for the ArmA engine.

I try to create a package that offers many possibilities on a hopefully AI friendly and well performing map.

While trying to stay close to history, gameplay and availability is always more important when selecting assets for the project.

This is a real community project. I can hardly model and my 2D skills are not much better.

I would not have gone anywhere without community help. A big 'Thank you!' to all contributors. You are just awesome!

Notable contributers so far:

-Swedish Forces Pack/granQ: k-pist m/45

-Petrtlach/CSA 1938: Kar98k

-Waxbutter/Hell in the Pacific: vegetation, Willys jeep

-BabylonJoke: Thompson SMG

-Forgotten Hope Warzone: Beta Testing

Also many thanks to Bohemia Interactive for still allowing/supporting modding in these days of DLCs.

Cold-war era African conflicts are one of the most interesting and unexplored areas of warfare, looking forward to this.

Nice historical mod... are you using CUP or massi´s weapons? Is it "shipping" with a campaign or just SP and MP scenarios?

cheers!

Thanks guys :)

are you using CUP or massi´s weapons?

I used Massi's at first, but am using my own (im)ports and donated ones now.

Is it "shipping" with a campaign or just SP and MP scenarios?

I will only create MP missions. But maybe some of them can be played by a single person too.

Cheers,

D.

That's awesome, totally my kind of setting for a war, excellent impressions right there!

Is there any chance to make weapons/vehicles JSRS compatible? Would absolutely appreciate it!

Cheers

Now that is a cool idea, lots of potential there, most of it unexplored by games so far.

Another wondeful idea, very nice :)

Basically what they said before.

I'm really interested in this project.

Great setting and very in keeping with the Arma playstyle - small units etc

Good job :-)

Might have to go and make some cold-war era royal Marines so we can "help out" the UN forces :-)

Great choice for a conflict.

One of the Irish army's finest and darkest hours in this conflict. I'll try find the IDFs photos of the time. Will help with the UN forces look.

An interesting idea indeed. That was an historical war not much peoples know about...I really like the idea !!!

I look forward for his development, as well as giving (whenever possible) help testing it :)

Been hoping for this to come to life ever since you first mentioned it in Guerra do Ultramar's forum thread. Can't wait.

Please Dimitri, when editing those missions, put the teamleader as "player" so they can be played on SP, that would be great!

Anxious to play your missions, this mod is quite unique!

cheers!

Hey Dimitri! Your Guerra do Ultramar mod was fantastic and I think under-appreciated. The setting, period and subject matter are very interesting, always good to see more obscure conflicts being shown. Looks great so far, good luck!

Thanks for your kind words guys :)

Is there any chance to make weapons/vehicles JSRS compatible?

That would be easy enough it seems, but I am not sure if it's worth the effort at the moment, as LJ's new soundmod is probably out before [DA3]tCC has been released and unlikely to be compatible. But I will certainly keep that in mind.

Awesome! :D

Especially your weapons, Babylon ;)

I'll try find the IDFs photos of the time. Will help with the UN forces look.

That would be helpful indeed :)

Do you accept donations, Dmitri?

You are talking about models or money? Hell, I'd take both! :D

I have not set up anything for the latter, however.

Cheers,

D.
