Community Upgrade Project - Weapon Pack

Recommended Posts

In short

---

The Community Upgrade Project is the initiative to bring all the content of Arma 2

[+ OA and DLCs] from BI into Arma 3, upgraded to the Arma 3 feature set.

Its goal is to provide those assets to the community as a mod ready to use in the game,

and as an open-source repository for modders to build upon and learn from.

  1. Cooperative and coordinated effort to get a coherent port of Arma 2 content
[+ OA and DLCs] from BI to ARMA 3 standards
    .
  2. Full availability of all source material under share-alike license (APL-SA).
In essence everyone can make use of the work to build mods on his own as long
as he provides credits, shares also his sources and keeps the same license
    .
  3. Release of the content in a coherent way

Content to come soon: vehicles, infantry, uniforms, terrains, objects, buildings, vegetation, wild life.

For more details on the project read the introduction thread.

Frequently Asked (and other important) Questions

This frequently asked questions list will be continuously updated as new questions (and answers) become available.

- What addons are required

You will need ASDG Joint Rails, as CUP depends on that. It provides compatibility to other attachment packs, and allows CUP attachments to be used on standard Arma 3 or user-created weapons compatible with ASDG Joint Rails.

- Is it intended that some weapons can't fit attachments on them?

Apart from the rquirements of ASDG Joint Rails, some weapons are indeed intentionally not able to fit certain attachments. For example, since the Lee Enfield has no rails, it cannot attach scopes or any other attachment. Likewise, dovetail mount attachments can only be put on weapons that have a dovetail side mount, like the AK's, Bizon, SVD and similar rifles. In the future there might be more variants of e.g. AK's with a dovetail-to-Picatinny adaptor.

Note that if you do not see the Attachments in the Virtual Arsenal, you have an outdated version of ASDG Joint Rails. Install the latest one.

- The first post mentions infantry units...

The infantry units included in this release are placeholders. They will eventually be replaced by the "real" units. Right now, these are default Arma 3 units/uniforms with the appropriate inventory. Expect these to be tweaked in upcoming patches (for example, medics do not have a medikit yet, etc).

- What can I do to help?

If you have modding experience, or are simply willing to learn something new, contact us. We do need modellers, animators, and config writers, but there might be other tasks that can be done. For example, many of the weapons have generic descriptions (I think I left a "gun thingy" somewhere). Even without modding experience, this is something that everybody can help out with. Contact us if you think you can help (see the first post).

- Are you going to make 3D-Scopes?

Yes. As time goes by, we're planning of making step-by-step improvements to the attachments and the weapons. This includes making the scopes 3D instead of flat as well as things like working selector switches, custom animations, etc. However, these things are secondary for usage; You can perfectly use an AK-47 with a PSO scope now, even though the latter isn't 3D yet. Things that improve basic performance and looks are the next step, not the first.

Is it intended that some weapons can't fit attachments on them? Is there some mod requirement I'm missing?

Grats for release, looks amazing :), the pack work automatically with my Whole Lotta Altis SP mission if someone is looking for a single-player mission where to try it. You can combine it with RHS Escalation or play without (but if playing with RHS, better enable random AI weapons in shift+1 options after mission start):

@Tinter There should be ASDG JR as requirement, I guess kju had forgot to mention it in the post.

Thanks to Benargee for informing us of the release

Release frontpaged on the Armaholic homepage.

================================================

We have also "connected" these pages to your account (kju) on Armaholic.

This means soon you will be able to maintain these pages yourself if you wish to do so. Once this new feature is ready we will contact you about it and explain how things work and what options you have.

When you have any questions already feel free to PM or email me!

** Note:

since this is a project on which more people are working we will contact you in the future to discuss how you want this to be setup on Armaholic.
