UK:FF - British Forces for ArmA 3

Recommended Posts

I personally did consider making an Anti Submarine Warfare version of the Wildcat, but at the moment I did not see the point given the features within ARMA.

And in a massive coincidence, this was my 159th post discussing the AW159 Wildcat... lol

I hope somebody will come up with some Subs but iven if somebody is going to it will most likely be a BLUFOR one...

After I get my current Project Ingame I could try to make a Submarine model though...problem is: The only thing I could do is doing the 3D-Model and even then there are many people that could do it way better compared to me...

Even then someone would have to make a 'sonar' system in game for them to even be worth putting in game.

Something I will look into :P

Surely Sonar already exists... kind of - I discussed this with Laxmann. His reflections and reverb mod does something similar with gun sounds right ?

I was thinking more along the lines of stationary Radar to detect aircraft based on an invisible expanding object that could "detect" a moving object vs. say clutter. Seems to me it would work just as well for a virtual Active or Passive sonar simulation ? Could even configure the shape of the expanding object to simulate towed or spherical arrays ?

@serjames - the concept you have mentioned is easily possible, it is just moving that into a meaningful way to target things in game. I'm sure Bull will be able to figure it out from what I've seen of his work.

EDIT - PS I just broke the forums when migrating the site to a new server. It'll be back soon. Also new web address is www.ukfutureforce.co.uk

even then, as far as im aware there is only the SDV's in game at present and again, as far as im aware no-one is intending on putting a fully operational nuclear sub in game. Everything is do-able, its just whether its actually worth doing...

Well I would think it would be worth if there would be targets for it :P Right now there are just not enough big Naval Assets (espacially ones that are working properly) so I would say even though Subs should definatly be taken in consideration later on, right now the focus should be on ships.

The Royal Navy's Wildcats wont have dipping sonar for ASW. The Thales FLASH sonar fit is for export AW159s, like the ones the Koreans are buying.

The Wildcat HMA.2s rely on working with other more specialised ASW platforms like Merlin (which has has pretty much everything you could want in an ASW helicopter), and the ASW frigates. In the RN, its ASW role is pretty limited: more or less just a platform for delivering Sting Ray into the area where the fleet's sub detection systems have pinged an enemy sub, and allowing the torpedo's terminal guidance to do the rest.

I knew the Koreans were going with the ASW setups, didn't know we weren't. To be honest, do we even have 'real' plans for the wildcat yet? as far as I was aware we were going to have a few in a scout/armed role and the rest as Battlefield/Utility Helicopters

Rock will know better than I, but my understanding is that the Wildcat HMA.2s (the Royal Navy ones with the Seaspray radar and emergency flotation kit) have a fairly solid plan to be armed with M3M and Sting Ray for the time being, and will eventually have 'Martlet' a/k/a Thales' LMM/FASGW(L) and 'Sea Venom' a/k/a MDBA's FASGW(H) whenever those are finally introduced into service.

There's less certainty about what the Army's Wildcat AH.1s will be like. For the time being it's unlikely they're be fitted with anything more substantial than self-defence armament in the form of machine-guns, since they're only really looking at the initial ISTAR, liaison and light utility roles for the Army's Wildcats. Lynx was never much of a transport helicopter to begin with, and the additional weight of Wildcat looses some of the extra flight performance advantages that were obtained by upgrading the Lynx AH.9As with Wildcat's CTS800 engines (though I assume they're still better than the older AH.7s and AH.9s with Rolls Royce Gem engines).

My guess is they wont look at Martlet or any other missile for the Army's Wildcats until the MoD sets out the future of the UK's Apache's and AAC's offensive capabilities in the next two Defence Spending Reviews, and Martlet is well proven on the Navy's helicopters,

Cheers for that Da12th, made for an interesting read. I did look at making the FASGW(H) as supposedly when I was reading about it, it has a air to ground capability as well as anti-ship? whether or not that's me reading it wrong or not I don't know?

Given our 2020 time frame I think we'll stick with assuming that the AAC will also get the 'Martlet'. Though from reading what you've said I might see if we can squeeze 2x M3M's onto the transport variants and still have room for a fireteam, though the back of these are very cramped already and there will probably be a lot of clipping between the gunners and the 4th passenger. We'll see...

Actually i think you might have just stolen my crown, "King of the Geeks".

The HMA2's missile capability was designed for the small fast moving craft threat. If you logically think about the modern threats its all relatively low tech and high speed (eg Iran's fleet's of fast boats overwhelming ships concept). The ASW option as Da12th said earlier is really only to extend the shipborne ASW capability of the Type 45 and 26.

There's less certainty about what the Army's Wildcat AH.1s will be like. The AH1 is really only ever likely to have M3Ms (i've seen mockups for one with 2x door mounts for escort/support) and a supposedly comprehensive defensive aids suite similar to the latest Apache AH1 or better.

My guess is they wont look at Martlet or any other missile for the Army's Wildcats until the MoD sets out the future of the UK's Apache's and AAC's offensive capabilities in the next two Defence Spending Reviews, and Martlet is well proven on the Navy's helicopters,

There was a discussion about Hellfire but that got canned quickly. The new Brimstones (Part of SPEAR) were also mentioned as a possible future option but i really dont know how realistic that would be. I've heard discussions about re-arming Apaches with Brimstone2 missiles but the problems with the motor delayed the Fixed Wing version to 2015 and I cant see the Helicopter conversion (if it ever happens) being any easier.

Keen for this mod. Would love to see uniforms as smocks, with equipment such as webbing without body armour. Bergans would also be epic for a recce patrol feel.

Bump to this^

Any further work going with different troop types from the osprey combo that is not used in every type of UK forces?

Here is the progress so far on the MK10 LCU , for which an initial version is now complete and the HMS Bulwark. I will be doing the MK5 LCVP also to 'comlete the set' so to speak

Do you guys have any images of the British gear you might be working on? I was hoping to finally get a full pack of british equipment for the infantry including different radio packs, vests, uniforms, helmets, backpacks, eye wear etc hopefully with all versions of the camo patterns used at the moment. I visited your site but it is lets say, lacking any information on most things.
