All the earlier messengers were sent to their own people/society. But Prophet Mohammad Sallallahu Alaihe Wassallam was sent for the entire humanity. Left untouched, that could continue in perpetuity (at least, in the context of a human lifespan).

All that is required is a desire to actually end the conflict.

 

For the past few years, seems like powers that be are more interested in dragging it on as long as possible, while conducting a few token air strikes against IS-held Syrian government/military infrastructure and SF whack-a-mole raids.

 

Contrast that with the situation in Iraq, where things are getting a bit heated, especially around critical infrastructure where US is playing hardball, such as Mosul Dam.
