unit count on map? How many is too many?

Recommended Posts

I dont understand how arma sets the almighty "too much is too much" disappearing preview button. On a Altis map i have 999 items on the map (units, empty cars, custom ammo boxs, ext), After I got All in Arma working with the HQ pack I wanted to make the same mission kinda just with russians instead of CSAT. 236 units in and that was it. Couldnt place another thing. The map was Sahrani one that comes with the AiA terrain pack. So how does arma figure out when you placed to many things? Or is there a way around this? A flashlight on this confusing subject would be nice....

I don't think for objects that there's any kind of limit.

Groups is definitely 144 groups per side.

If you run out of groups then you need to make fewer groups with more men, or use another side (group to a unit of other side with probability of presence set to 0%).

The only reasons the preview button disappears for me is:

1) More than 144 groups of AI units on a certain side.

2) I have not placed a playable unit

3) I have not saved the mission.

So theres no way to get around the 144 group (or single units if you look at 1 unit as a group if that makes sense). That kinda sucks. I seen a video once of a guy that had 1500 AI running around how is that possible if you can only have 144 groups or units around?

Group multiple units together as a squad.

ie 140 Groups x 12 men per group = 1680 men total.

You can also have some OPFOR, some GUER and some BLUFOR to increase the numbers even higher. If you cant fit your scenario into 144 groups, I think you might have some bigger issues in how you have planned the structure. I would suggest looking at caching and spawning units via script to simulate an entire battlefield.
