Smoke grenades FPS drop

Recommended Posts

Hello.

First of all I don't know with which patch this happened but I can say I'm 100% sure that I did not have that kind of issues before. Here is what happening, I normally have about 40-60 FPS (depends on mission), but this framerate drops sometimes by 30-40 FPS just because of smoke grenades! I have placed myself in VR, FPS is 60, throw 3 smoke grenades in random direction, they spread out, FPS going to 20 FPS... I have Particle Effects set to minimal setting and it did not help, what I see is smoke gets smaller but FPS doesn't raise at all! Do anyone else have this kind of issue to?

Thanks.

More info:

GPU - NVidia 560 Ti

CPU - Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 ~3.2GHz

RAM - 8GB 1600MHz

What I have observed with MSI Afterburner is before throwing grenade my GPU usage is 100% and I get 80 frames per second, after throwing few grenades (5) GPU usage was 50% and I had 30FPS. CPU usage is the same at all times (50-70%).

Not a very constructive answer... It seems to me that his rig already meets the recommended specs?

Smoke is just quite heavy on the GPU and CPU.

I tried this in the editor and I got 190fps in VR without smoke and 40fps with 5 grenades in front of me. Seems fairly normal to me. But if the fps doesn't get back up after the smoke has cleared completely, then there's something wrong.

Yeah, I think this happens to pretty much everyone

particle systems are typically pretty taxing on your computer, no matter what game it's in.
