USP Patches & Insignias

Okay, so I did some testing last night with converting the insignias to better fit some of the community made uniforms, and decided I would post some info about it to gather a bit of feedback. These were the uniforms that were tested:

 

[Adacas Military Gear Pack] G3 Field Set: The standard insignias seemed to be sized fine, but there is a transparency issue on this uniform set which I'm guessing is model related.

[Adacas Military Gear Pack] G3 Fleece Jacket: Standard insignias looked just fine the way they were, no issues and no need in resizing.

 

[Cunico Spec4Gear & RHS] Crye G3: This seemed to be the main uniform set that needs the insignia resized and slightly repositioned. Insignia should be downsized and correctly centered.

 

[RHS] US Army/Marine Uniforms: For some reason (not sure if it's just me), but none of the RHS uniforms will display insignias for me anymore (except the G3 of course). I'm certain that they did at one point in time....but maybe I'm mistaken, or they removed that feature.

[RHS] Russian Uniforms: The russian uniforms display the insignia as they should, but definitely needs resizing as the insignia seems stretched wider than it should be. But hopefully after resizing for the G3, they will appear better on these uniforms as well.

 

Anyhow, that was the results and seems my main focus will be converting the insignias for the G3 uniforms, as the rest seemed to either have issues, not work, or are just fine the way they are. If there are any custom community uniforms that I missed or just have a suggestion, please feel free to chime in.

Well this is what I've come up with. I didn't want to downsize them too much, which would lose resolution and be less visible. It isn't much, but just figured I would share. Keep in mind that even though these are different insignias in the pictures, they are both roundels, which are sized exactly the same regardless which it is.

They're a lot, but still, I found them very funny and I think that at least one of them could be a nice addition to your awesome insignia collection! Me and my unit always use them, and sometimes we pull out some funny combinations.

Just to make everyone aware, from this point on all requests made will be added to the queue for a future update, as my plate is currently full at the moment trying to wrap up the current update. That isn't to say 'stop making requests', but more of letting you know that requests from here on out will be bumped to the next update after this release is done. I know I am terrible with ETA's, so I won't even offer one, but I have been working hard to make this the biggest update yet, with lots and lots of new content. As for the current update, I am finally at a point where I can say for sure, release is not far (even though I have been wrong in the past). But the main work is done and now I'm just tidying things up. The main reason I'm posting though is to, unfortunately, say that I will be waiting until after this update is released to 'possibly' release the modified pack for community made uniforms. While I was converting everything, I started to feel like it was a big waste of time. The more I thought about it, what's stopping these authors of the uniforms from later changing the insignia position again? Or possibly removing the insignia function entirely from their uniforms (which I doubt would be done)? It would make sense that they would be coming back later to polish certain things such as the insignia positioning. Which if this ever happened, would make all this effort to convert the patches, for nothing. Now if anyone has some better insight to this, feel free to share....but for now, this is the way I see it.

 

In my mind it would make more sense to leave the resizing issue alone for community made uniforms, as I would imagine it would be the author's job to align their insignias the same way BI has done with the default uniforms, on the model itself. This would allow even custom made uniform models to use any of the insignias available right now, without need of adjustments. Now this may not even be a concern for some authors, or something they may never change/fix, but I don't want to waste my time converting a shit load of images just to have it 'possibly' broken later if they do. And I surely don't expect them to make changes just for me or this mod, so we'll just have to wait and see. Hopefully, if they do ever adjust the alignment, then this entire patches pack (as well as others) will work on their uniforms without any need for changes. I know this may be disappointing for some, as I myself use community uniforms all the time so kinda sucks all my patches are outta whack on these. But it is what it is...so until further notice, that project is put on hold. I may still release the ones I've already converted as a temporary fix, if anyone is still interested.
