Strange server crash

Hey guys,

I have experienced this crash the first time. We entered a AO and suddenly the server crashes (no message recieved...)

ON my server it was the first time. But my team member said it happend on other servers, with other missions and other mods (or even non), too. Why?

Yes I have been dealing with this crash for the past three weeks. We've thrown just about everything at it to fix it.

Mission Files:

Our modpack updated and screwed up some of the dependencies in our missions. We copy/pasted our old missions into fresh files in the editor.

Server mods:

Apparently FFIS is a cause. Disable it.

MCC. Some people have noted that the server will crash if someone is logged into MCC once first contact is made.

Clientside mods:

Seems to be the main culprit, particularly sound mods. Speed of Sound was the big one. JSRS might be okay.

We have forbid any clientside mods except for Shacktac HUD and Stamina. Doing some more testing with JSRS and slowly adding in others.

All of this combined appears to have fixed the crashing. Haven't experienced one for about 5 days.

What do you mean by that? What I did is that I took an excisting Mission and edited it.

Server Mods:

Yeah, my first thought was, that FFIS might be the problem, after there are many enemies spawned on the map (On Mission I edited was Domination by xeno and on was Patrol Ops 3.1)

The Problem: the last time the server crashed, FFIS wasn't even activated.

Clientside Mods:

That seems to be a good point. Some of our members might still use SoS (even the work on it was canceled) and some switched to JSRS. Do you think weapon addons can break the game too? Some of the member use some of them.

Also, do you think any script can be the problem? (Like Vas or IgiLoad)

The mission files were probably just a problem for our group. When our modpack updated they changed the classname of a few vehicles. We thought it might have been trying to reference that name and causing the error, so we re-made our missions to completely remove any reference to those outdated names.

I saw the same thing with FFIS. There was a thread in the troubleshooting forum that mentioned FFIS as a cause, but I completely wiped my server and haven't even downloaded FFIS and it still crashed a couple of times. I think it may have been one cause for the crashing, but not the only factor.

We use Massi's NATO weapons and Robert Hammer pistols and both of their sound fixes since the last Arma update. Haven't had any reason to suspect they were causing crashes. Same with IgiLoad. Don't use VAS, so I'm not sure about it.

That can't be the problem. If the classnames had been changed either the editor or the server log would tell you about. (Mission editor wouldn't let you load the mission - Server wouldn't let you start the mission ^^)

OKay...so we better keep that of our list. (I hope ASR is working better :p)

I guess Vas shouldn't be the problem. I haven't seen any complains about the VAS script lately. About the Rest: Good to hear. So we are going to test it without FFIS and SoS. I hope that'll work!

In my case, I don't think its MCC. Only a few member of my community uses MCC. I don't think anybody logs in multiple times on my server ^^

One of your clients might have FFIS installed. It doesn't matter if the server has it or not because if a client has FFIS installed and they engage AI, it causes the server to crash.

Did the last update break FFIS and start to cause server crashes? My unit is experiencing server crashes every time AI is engaged and we THINK it's FFIS, but we haven't been able to do a full-scale test again since the last crash, but if it's FFIS causing the big issue it would be a load of pain off our shoulders.

I'm like 90% sure, that FFIS is the cause. Since I told everybody to get rid of it we never had a crash again.

We'd forbid FFIS and Speed of Sound on our server, but if your community also uses FFIS I'm pretty sure, that will also be the cause on your server.

I'm going to test "ASR 3" because the Bohemia AI is still pretty useless. I'll get you guys informed about my results in this thread! ^^

Yes, the latest update broke FFIS for whatever reason. It works just fine server side but if any client runs FFIS, it will lead to server crashes when AI is engaged.
