Helmet Mounted Displays MOD

Recommended Posts

General announcement:

I changed my username from "geraldbolso1899" to the current "Kimi_uy".

This is to avoid confusion since most people know me as kimi rather than that weirdo name.

Hello, I see that the vanilla chopper damage informations were gone (Engine, Instrument, ...). I read that it should be placed somewhere else in the HMD but I can't find those informations.

You can have the damage indicator back by deleting the pbo that says "HMDs_Kimi_UI_Optional.pbo". That shall bring back the standard interface ;)

Thanks :D

I really like your interface, I can't fly without it now. ^^ But I miss that thing too much. I like to know what have been hit.

Maybe a nice add to the HMD in a next UP ;)

I always try to enforce a lil bit more realism, so if u r flying a chopper n u get hit, ull definetely notice and recognize the damage sustained (e.g

Loosing tail rotor aurhority, fuel leak, hull damage which can be recognizes just by looking out you window... blablabla)

Hey Kimi_uy! Thank you again for all of your work! Not just with this config addon, but all of the immersion adding work you've done on a great many projects that so many of us have made "staples" in our A# gameplay.

*I'm sure by now you're wondering.."ok, Rob. what do you want?" So, i'll get right to it. If you had the time and wouldn't mind, Could you release/write an ACE compatible config for adding imperial measurements to the HUD's? It may sound petty, but to fly the F/A-18 or A-10's , F-16 all those american fighter aircraft, and be able to experience flyng/fighting in them with actual american measurement system, would be game changing for many people. I see posts from american arma players talking about this all the way back from A1 and through all the archaeological digs ive taken through these forums and armaholic i havent seen anything ever released to offer this. I know you are determined to bring as much realism to this "realistic mil-sim" as you can, so whaddya think?

Yes but if can't look outside (only Inside view), there is some part that you can't see when flying. ^^

Hey Robo!

As u might be aware i already have imperial variants for all my hmds, however, i need to point out the fact that even though it'be more realistic i will still get shat upon by people if it was to happen for ACE3. And it aint a walk in the park to change 'em units neither.

Look out through yer windshield, it takes damage proporcionally to the hull damage :p

Is there any slight differences between the metric or the imperial versions?

Metric shows airspeed in kph and altitude in meters whereas the imperial version has airspeed in knots and altitude in feet ;)

I dont know if this has been suggested but what if you made the hud in to the helmet? Since the mod is already named Helmet mount displays what if you made it part of the helmet so that everyone could use your hud on every vehicle just as long as they had your helmet on. I dont even know if that is possible but it surely would be awesome.

Given the view system in itself (and limited HUD work myself) the HUD simply moves with the POV of the pilot/co-pilot, and nothing more. Some games, like Interstellar Marines, do a great job of showing the helmet in the First person view. In short you'd have to modify the game code/3D model to show stuff like that to make it like real life (monocular visible, etc.).

Eric is right, it's difficult enough to make these things work by it's design. I don't even wanna think how many stones I'd have to flip to make it work with a helmet alone!

Kimi with certain helis that don't have radar there isn't a compass at the top, would it be possible to add one for N/E/S/W that's always there? Like you see in this video:

The only way to show the vanilla compass is enabling some variables in the config, but that's the author's choice.

I'm getting an distortion problem with the boxes around ground targets; if I look at them centered, they're exactly around the vehicle, but the more I look off bore, the more the box shifts away from around the target. It's even more dramatic when looking down through the left or right doors, then the boxes are horrifically away from around their intended targets. Even Dslyecxi noted the distortion in his video "Getting Ugly"

where he was flying as an Apache pilot. It's almost like the viewpoint of the pilot is pivoting around a point behind the rotation point of the view of where the boxes are being projected. Is this a bug or just a thing?

I am aware of the problen and it's very difficult to explain why it happens. It is not fixable, it sucks but i hit an engine limitation with those things.

The basic explanation is that the HUDs in arma 3 are lil green sticks projected onto a plane (and by plane i mean an infinite 2d face) directly in front of the aircraft and the way i use it is that those radar boxes display correctly when looking forward. Once u turn ur head away said plane wont turn with your head, hence why it goes batshit.

Unless i find a permanent solution i will remove them altoghether.

I will be testing a new concept to fight this dilemma on the next update (next week) so be on alert!

Thanks for reporting btw! Much appreciated ;)

EDIT: I apologize for the edited-out rant. It was unnecessary and beyond the scope of the post.

Please tell me this is compatable with John Spartans F-18 mod. I want to have the Battlefied experience as the WSO. Or atleast have an easier time locking onto things as a pilot in the E version.
