MRB - ArmA 3 - Kartinator

Recommended Posts

This little addon adds an action menu entry for you to enter DLC Karts w/o having bought the DLC :)

Same as with noBAF, this wasnt made to piss people off, but because it´s an easy fix to a slightly un-easier problem.

None of the "non-buyer-features" other than the get-in mechanic are being changed by this addon.

All UI Alerts/Vignettes, Mission Cooldowns/Restrictions, or other features non-buyers might encounter are left intact.

=====================

MRB A3 Kartinator

=====================

Why:

-It´s a silly restriction in a game with THAT many scripting commands and addon possibilities.

-I don't want to be forced running a debug-console all the time just to be able to enter karts.

===============================================================================================

Installation:

- Put the addon .pbo included with this archive into any of your modfolders and load it as usual.

-- For use on online servers with active signature file checking the .bisign file needs to be in the same location as the .pbo,

-- Also the mrb.bikey must be allowed by the server owner (Note: the key file is not required by clients).

=========================================================================================================

Content:

- readme.txt (you're reading it)

- mrb_a3_kartinator.pbo (the addon)

- mrb_a3_kartinator.pbo.bisign (signature file for online use)

- mrb.bikey (key file for server owners to allow usage of this addon)

=====================================================================

Version History:

- 1.0 initial Release

=============================================================

Stay Alpha!

megathx to the following great people:

.kju for allinone.cpp´s!

Moerderhoschi for always helping me with scripts (this addon wouldnt have happened w/o him :D)!

Letranger for (hopefully) not going apeshit about me basically copying his config approach to easily turn script into addon stuff!

Bohemia, for Karts!!!

Download @armed-assault.de

Download @armaholic.com

edit: v1.1 available now, added unflip action that becomes available when you're upside down.

Also new with this update, the "Get in Kart" entry will no longer show up for DLC owners.

lol, the first thing I actually did was a mission where was action on all karts with moveInDriver, so me and my friends could race in peace.. this restricted approach from BIS is really ridiculous.

Sorry don't condone this. For the sake of a couple of quid, people scamming BIS? Shame. Shame.

The shame is on BIS, this is a bad decision to opt for such restrictions in a game built on the back of the modding community. You have to admit it leads to a pretty obvious contradiction in ideals, should the MoveInDriver command now be changed to check for DLC ownership before it can be called? What a slippery slope we tread when we try to make our intentions fit in with our capitalist economic fantasy.

Yes, check for MoveInDriver and any other commands that would allow people to get content they haven't paid for.

Just buy it! It's only £1.19... :)

Well oddly, according to BIS this kind of behaviour is intended: http://feedback.arma3.com/view.php?id=19002

Yes, it is intended. We decided to restrict only basic entry actions and keep the script functionality so they can be used e.g. in mission scripts.

This is a real cheap move, it costs £1.19 or whatever it was!

I think people are over thinking the way BI are going about this DLC strategy, how can it be worse than what it used to be? There are people who buy DLC's and support the devs, and then there are people who don't, it's been like that since DLC's have been around, what is wrong with BI waving some meat in front of your face?

It's supposed to be an incentive, a taste of what you could potentially have, if you don't buy the DLC, then you don't get to use it as much as the people who did, how is this unfair? Would you prefer to have blotchy low resolution assets, or nothing at all and unable to join any MP servers with said DLC?

Get a grip people, this is a way better solution than any other companies are trying at the moment, I think the real issue here is people not wanting to part ways with money, as ever.

It's not like ArmA 3 where not missing HUGE amount of content and diversity if we compare to ArmA 2 at release (not even say OA).

Know people out there they would pay 50 euro and more straight away for a DLC/Expansion/Whatever the hell that gives significant amount of quality content to this game.

Please BIS stop this DLC policy selling assets in small pieces and come on with content. You will get your money for sure.

Putting this kind of "solution" into play is largely the domain of well organized groups or those somewhat deep in the modding/content part of the community. The majority of players won't be doing this, but instead buy the dlc if they want the full access.

My biggest like about the whole dlc strategy is that my gaming group will be able to use these features at all. If this encourages, but not requires, the members to buy, I'm happy.

If there's one drawback to having the supporter edition, it's the inability to see for myself what non-owners have to suffer.

As people would pay straight up for a more worth while content, you missing the entire point of this little DLC. It's simply an experiment. If you read their DLC road map along side the DLC Karts, you and a million other whiners would realize they did this to see how it will play out with the rest of the DLC's they release. They aren't selling DLC in small pieces, its one small test.

So isn't it the perfect DLC to show them we don't like this method? They want feedback, they get feedback. They want to see how it will play out, this kind of move and people not wanting to buy in is a good way to show them. This, is the entire point of this little DLC.

You fail to understand that you can only speak for yourself though. You and a few others don't like this method. Some are able to see the merit in it and support it completely. And most probably don't care enough to do more than wait and see, to watch how it turns out.

It is not up to you or me to say how many like or don't like their strategy. The devs will gather the data, be it feedback or sales figures.

All I'm saying is things like this mod are valid data as well, and that yes, the kart DLC seems to be comparable enough to the upcoming DLC to base our feedback on it. Yes, this is a miniature version of what the upcoming DLCs will be but the concept behind it is the same, assets and scenarios revolving around one idea : karts, helicopters or snipers. That justifies calling them DLC with assets in small pieces in opposition to a full-fledged faction for example, which would have its vehicles and helicopters and specialised weapons such as snipers.

So stealing/scamming is now fine? What's the next addon to be made? How to pirate the whole game?

Go spend some money you tightwads! Shame if you use this addon.

Krem, wth are you talking about? Devs have already specifically stated that the ways around this specific restriction were intended. He clearly states in the addon description that all other restrictions have been left in place, as they should be. And most telling; the devs have left this up. If they had a problem with it, we wouldn't be here discussing it.

lol stahp. too funny! you really think they wouldn't have been able to restrict that too if they wanted too? FPDR

stop being so goddamn silly. even if it wasn't intended, the game itself supports scripting that allows this...

In fact a script version of this addon pretty much solves all my complaints with the Kart's DLC model so that if DLC assets were to be used then mission makers could still support non-DLC players and not fragment the community.

Ultimately the fact that this exists though undermines the whole point of them moving away from "Lite" in the first place.

Not sure if you could answer this directly but if BI changes the functionality of MoveInDriver/MoveInGunner to counter mods like this will you offer people refunds?

I don't think Mr Burns would try and shaft BI especially over a 1.99 download - he's old school OFP.

I would imagine there was some dialogue with the devs before this was released.

In any case, this thread would be locked/deleted some time ago if they didn't approve.

You can selectively turn off any DLC you own from Steam and make the game think you haven't bought it. Open the Arma 3 properties on Steam and on the "DLC" tab you can pick which ones you want the game to think you've bought. Data is still there either way.

Have you played over a longer period than 30 minutes with the lite version?

I am very sure the onscreen ads (the big view obstructing one) is enough to make anyone remotely interested in playing with Karts in ArmA 3 to buy this addon.

And it´s fine that way, i wont interfere. Myself, i am going to end up buying Karts DLC anyway aswell.

*blushes*

To be honest i really would have better asked for BI´s approval first, i´m seeing the lack of gentleman'ness (:E).

I didn´t for a number of reasons, mainly stated in the readme but also beacuse i thought it was okay, and BI must have known smth. like this will be coming.

Seeing how far discussions (or accusations of theft oO) are already going, i learned to be more cautios with my assumptions.

you do realise that there are other things happening when you use it for too long, right?
