What do you think? :) Do you play MMOs? What does an Arma3 MMO have to do to get me? Upgrades? Maps? Forces?

War Thunder is a really fun game.

Neither War Thunder nor World of Tanks is an MMO.

All of these games COULD be done with the Arma3 engine. Just given time, ingenuity, and cold beer!

The question, though, is why? Like, those games already exist.

1. Neither of those games is an MMO

2. You can set up a War Thunder/ World Of Tanks like match in ArmA... but I don't really see why you would want to try and copy another game, especially two free ones, in an engine that isn't meant for their arcade style of gameplay.

To be fair, in some gamemodes, War Thunder can be about as realistic as Arma is.

There's already an Arma MMO, its called ALIVE. (I wouldn't could on it being MMO actually, only a handful of people play it, and servers are usually passworded) War Thunder isn't MMO, and is more realistic in terms of it's style of gameplay, its a kinda WW2 pilot sim, in terms of aerodynamic physics, but ONLY when played in the Historical mode. Arma 3 could pull off something like this, if there were Dedicated servers with different maps, one of each map. Run like ALIVE, where the AI are a living ting that capture areas, and not passworded.

A clean script w/100 slots?

King of the hill is a polished and popular pvp mode.

Considering it requires no mods, runs well, and is admin'ed by able volunteers --their success is earned.

Koth servers are a good starting point for new pvp players --and as good a place as any for vets to improve their skills. Great place for helo pilots.

Not to mention the persistant database lends it a mmo feel.

Hundreds play koth every day. Many will go on to harder TvT in other servers.

PvP is all about meeting new people --and killing them. AI are poor replacements.

King of the Hill's success proves there is a keen interest for pvp, TvT, in arma3.

The koth team deserves our thanks.

I miss Tee Times Warfare being at the top. Fo some great TvT, Tee Times provided some of the best experiences with and without sound mods for boosted immersion, plus the situations you get into, it's quite the show. I ounce turned the time of an entire battle with 1 mag of 6.5... But an MMO, is kinda hard to pull off in Arma, and i doubt we will ever see it. RV4 Engine isn't fitting for a MMO, i just don't see us pulling off the Massive part. Multiplayer Online however, yes. =D

It would be technically possible to make a MMO out of OFP as it can support well over 2000 players. The problem is just no such missions, not enough players, no available servers (which would have to be really beefy) and no 'join in progress' feature. :p

That last thing in particular is a big obstacle. But sure, Arma 3 could be easily turned into a MMO.

Milsim CoOp as the predominant gameplay mode for the Arma Series ended with Arma 2. More to the point it ended with DayZ. DayZ brought more people into the Arma series than anything before it, and it has forever changed the focus of the game (sandbox vs Sim). There is no going back, because to do so would cost BIS millions of dollars in sales in the long term.

MilSim will always be part of Arma, but it has to learn that it is no longer the focus or majority of the playerbase. You are a niche market and Arma is no longer a niche market product.

Well, Altis Life servers with connected databases could be concidered MMO.

I would love a gamemode that is like RO2 multiplayer campaign where you play maps where a win/loss influences what map you play next (and where one side can win.) I think Heroes and Generals does a similiar thing. That coupled with ARMA3s engine/gameplay would actually be damn awesome. First playing on Stratis, then Altis...then, well, here we need to talk to some map makers to make some new Greek-y styled maps. (Or do campaigns on older ARMA maps.)

MMO? So you want massive fps drop? It gets bad with 70 people already, no need for even more.

I think Heroes and Generals does a similiar thing.

Except its horribly balanced and has monotous map. Besides, which map should it change to in A3 when Altis is conquered? Stratis and then Altis again?

Besides vehicles are super powerfull, with Thermal and powerfull long range weapons etc. Nobody would want to play infantry. MMO is a bad idea. It's just not going to work.
