The Eridanus Insurrection - An Arma 3 Total Modication

Recommended Posts

sooo you asked and here is my attempt to deliver. i ended up doing it as i said i would earlier. the pants are now hidden selections with 1 slim and 1 loose fit variant. this allows me to enable the slim whenever the shinguard's are turned on, for the heavy troops. now, it's still not as slim looking as the original series depicts it, but i think it looks way better than before. so, here are some before pictures of several variants standing together. sidenote: i apologize for the huge size of the screenshots, but with 3 screens... they turn out bigger :P

as you can see, the straps are now tightly pressed against the leg pushing the pants in as well. a lot more form fitting i would say. also, the armor pieces are smaller and slimmer, kind of hard to see but they are in fact lol.

you can see it the best if you switch between these 2 images

anyways, i think this about as good as it's going to get without going back to the draw board and making new legs from scratch. i hope this satisfies some of you guys that have been bothered by the fat looking legs. ANYWHATS, feedback welcomed and enjoy the plentiful new screenies.

No, what I'm saying is we will balance the units and armor to match and work with vanilla gameplay.

All right then. I will just throw it in then: IMHO Halo armors should have better protection then NATO heavy plate carrier, but they should be heavier and have less carrying space (many of the armors lack real LBE elements). The heavy weight and less space is pretty much a double nerf as you wont be able to carry as much due to space limit, but also you will be carrying less overall due to armor weight. Also I think that the uniform clothes should provide as much defense as CSAT clothes. I think this balancing philosophy would be a good way. Your call though.

The shin guards look better now, you may want to keep them in mind and, at some point, redo the legs with shin guards so they look more like in source material. Still, thanks for looking that up.

Its kind of a difficult choice to make. We have to take into consideration alot of factors, such as AGM integration and compatibility with other mods. On the one hand, its the responsibility of the mission maker to make sure everything is balanced properly. However, you also dont want the weapons and armor to be so powerful that its impossible to really counter them. We have to design the mod in a way that its actually possible for other factions to combat the UNSC in some way or another. Otherwise we'll run into the same issue we'd face if we had spartans in.

Personally, I vote we make the equipment slightly stronger, but also slightly heavier.

Of course its your call. I just wish for UNSC to have their own flavour as well. Since they lack the big heavy tanks and APC's their infantry should have slight edge in protection. Again Im not that big of Halo lore nerd, but I remember that UNSC tended to go with infantry with support from warthogs and occasional scorpion tank, so it would make sense for their infantry to have better survivability as they are backbone of many operations. Of course Im not calling for making them totally OP, if you are hit by 40mm autocannon round or .50cal you wont be going anywhere no matter the armor you wear, being able to withstand 3 (maybe 4 if you get lucky) torso shots (instead of being incapacitated by 1 and killed by other) from 7.62 weapons wouldnt be all that game braking (at least I think it wouldnt). Of course each such hit should get you wounded, but still allowing you to fight in some manner. I still think that the carrying capacity should be included as a balancing factor. Balancing is a tricky beast to handle. Personally I would suggest lots of testing. Fortunately Zeus is great for that: just drop some groups and let them duke it out, then analyze the results.

You guys are doing incredible job. Balancing isnt that of a big deal as long as you have everything (models, sounds, textures etc.) done. Keep up the great work!

i will tell you guys this much, a few of us jumped into a mission last night and got into some firefights with the innies. we managed to get the drop on them several times which resulted in a quick and deliberate attack. they stood their ground but the element of surprise gave us the upper hand. eventually they got the drop on us and ran us into the ground. they outnumbered us quickly and came down right on top of us in numbers. it was a fierce fight until the last of us dropped.

that being said, it is pretty well balanced right now creating hard yet enjoyable gameplay. a bit of tweaking will still occur but not much.

Your should know as our armor systems today in RL keep getting stronger and lighter, I wouldn't be surprised If the UNSC armor was extremely light weight yet highly durable. I mean they did have over 500 years to work out this issue lol

This is were the balance comes in. There have to be a downside to improved protection (weight, less carrying capacity) otherwise other armors have no point other then look and the UNSC faction ends up being OP. I guess they are limited by lack of attack helicopters, planes like A-10 and lack of small agile helicopters.

Anyway: small cosmetical thing: UNSC should use all of the english voices (ie. US, UK and Altan). Just so they give more multi cultural feel.

Very good idea! Wish BIS had an aussie voice lol

That idea actually came from the Colonial Marines alpha mod. The marine unit used every single voice type I had installed (including CSAT/iranian? and russian). While the foreign languages stood out, the mix of english accents was really pleasing to hear.

BTW: Now I cant help, but wonder if the M41 Pulse Rifle is better then Halo assault rifles. Well, once the units are released I will arm same, opposing soldiers in both and let them find out for me :p.

EDIT: About the sounds: I think that the Halo 4 had the best (IMHO) sound for guns. They are the most meaty and sound damn unique (assault rifle sound is just great). So, this may be the ones you should go for/try to emulate.

Compilation of UNSC gun sounds across main Halo games: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_U3jZHNBQrI

EDIT 2: The sniper rifle should totally have panoramic scope, night vision, thermal vision. Hell, throw in the UV laser pointer and maybe even a laser designator as an alternative fire. That targeting unit is MASSIVE, it would be very much possible for it to house all of those (at least the vision modes).

EDIT 3: yeah now I just read up on it and found out it has at least the panoramic scope and the night vision. Still the thermals and maybe even more could be a coll addition.

The UNSC have Attack Helicopters. I.E: The Shyhawk http://www.halopedia.org/SkyHawk

A-10 type fighters I.E: The Shortsword http://www.halopedia.org/B-65_Shortsword (Though the Shyhawk can fit here too) (Also Pelicans given the right armaments can fit this role too.

Aglie Helicopters: The Hornet http://www.halopedia.org/AV-14_Hornet and Falcon http://www.halopedia.org/UH-144_Falcon

Have you heard the weapon sounds of the weapons from Halo 2 Anniversary? They put everything to crap lol

Halo 2 Anniversary and Halo 3 sounds are the best out of all of them. Halo 4's are the worst in my opinion.

I won't confirm any names just yet, but hopefully someone will help us with our weapon sounds later in the mod development.

Halo 4 AR with a BELT FED .50 cal sound and almost all marines look like star wars pilots... it's all sooo wrong. I hope they changed all that in Halo 5.

So it was .50cal? I knew I heard that firing sound somewhere :p. The sounds from Halo 2 Anniversary do sound great. Cant wait to try them out myself in Arma 3.

Just throwing something out there. On the warthog perhaps later in development maybe the winch on the front could become functional (Ideal for ArmA) with a little coding wizardry.

I haven't gotten to play around with the ropes yet but clearly something like this is possible.

Hello! I'm a Arma veteran and a HALO fan. For some reason I haven't stumbled upon this mod until now.

I got hugely excited when I saw the screenshots. Everything seems so fantastic!

I'm also a mission maker, and the next mission I'll make is definitely with this mod (When alpha releases).

One suggestion for later, is the civilian content. It would be so cool to see a life mod HALO style.

Thanks for making this, I can't wait to play this with my friends! :bounce3: Good luck!

I would, but my clan leader is allowing to do a whole series of campaigns with this mod if it has enough assets for us to use. We'll be doing a lot of stress testing of it and will be giving harsh feedback on what we experience with it. Like we did with the RHS: Escalation mod :p

But i won't be doing recruitment for my clan for this forum is not meant for it lol,

hey I just spent my entire Wednesday reading through all 128 pages of your mod and I have to say this is one of the best things I have ever seen, you guys pay attention to a lot of the good things about halo and I like how you are going for a realistic setting like the books compared to the actual games, I for one an excited to get this mod so I can play as a marine and hopefully become a pelican pilot, I do not own ARMA 3 as of yet but thanks to reading through your guys mod ARMA 3 is now on my top priorities at least so I can play this mod. keep up the good work and I am amazed with everything you have been able to achieve because it is amazing!

I have question about the gun models, namely the mirrored nature of some of them. For example: in Halo the sniper rifle has the cocking handle on the left, not only does that make little sense, but A3 lacks animations for such setup. Many games have the so-called lefthanded-righthanded guns with ejection fort and cocking handle on the left side. Basically the gun model is mirrored so the player can look at the "more interesting" part of the gun. Right now I cant think of other Halo weapons with such setup, but you guys should keep that in mind.
