The v-80

Recommended Posts

Why is the new V-80 so damn shaky? When I look through the guns scope/iron sights whatever you want to call it, you have to press * and then only move the gun up and down. And have to have autohover off. Is there anyway to fix this?

And is this thing being balanced on a pin? I pulled my infamous 180 that I in a dog fight to evade fire and it turned into a 360 then stalling me and the AI kicked my ass. I guess I'll just have to get used to it.

Now, don't get me wrong. I love this new chopper. But can the shakyness of it be fixed?

But shooting unguided missiles with it shaking back and forth like that is horrible!

From what I heard, the real V80, or KA50, or whatever is a really stable chopper IRL.

I dont know if the dual sets of blades create the extra shaking effect, but I guess its possible? confused.gif

Contra rotating blades is more stable

In real life this design is the most efective copter out bar none (according to what i have read not experienced I have not even flown a plane never mind a military helicopter)

The British military would rather buy this than the Apache longbow or rather the two seat version. Same goes for the Germans. Its a way more stable weapons platform.

If the weapons market opens up now that the cold war is long over I think some of the NATO countries might try to build it under licence.

Correction I just checked with Janes one NATO country Turkey is allready considering it as are Finland and Sweden Israel is now building the Avionics for some variants which probably means they are interested too.

R71. Throw her in Auto-hover, use the AP/He gun and go into the special view thing for it. It shakes like hell for me. And after I do a lot of maneuvering. It seems like it can shake itself to peices.

Don't forget the 'Iron Sight' veiw is really a Video/TV~Monitor, and it has extreme magnification (if I remember rightly). If you have it Zoomed right into the Target (at a distance) any movement will be wildly exagerated. as it would be in real life...

Just went and tried it out. Its not that extreme a magnification, but I don't get any shake or wobble with or without 'Auto Hover' on. I did get a CTD with an 'access violation message in the RPT file sad.gif ... tounge.gif

The double rotor should make the heli MORE stable than the traditional ones. it seems to me that bis is always a little 'harsh' with soviet equipment

Lets not forget the V-80 is a prototype of the real life whirly death thing, if they put in a chopper that was a realistic representation of what the real KA-50 (or the much cooler looking KA-52) is like, then it would be the don, and imbalence the game greatly. The dual rotor thingy should be more stable but they may've knakcered up the prototype...

It doesn't just shake when I'm looking through the monitor thing. It will shake when i'm not even using that gun.

Its just the best, yet flawed representation they could make. Not deliberately made worse for game purposes.

OK, the V-80 is a prototype. I love it... but would a prototype be used in a conflict situation? Isn't the definition of a prototype that it's used to test ideas etc, and probably only a handful of them are built?

Has there actually been any prototypes used in "real war situations" except for some things the Germans put out in WW2? The V-missiles comes to mind. wink.gif But maybe there were too many of them built so it was no longer a prototype.

I'll bet you correct me if I'm wrong... wink.gif

I can't believe how many times I have had to say this; V- 80, or Vertoyet-80 is simply the project name it was revealed to the West under at the MosAeroshow, in 1992. Not the name of the prototype. It is the KA-50.

* is the default. Its for free look. You turn your head but not your body. In this case, you can move the chopper around, just the gun. (And only up and down on the V80)
