The CSAT Modification Project - Version 1.6.1

K6GUCJF.png

---

The Western world has been the great power of the planet for the last few hundred years. The colonial empires of Europe ruled the world and extended their fingers to the farthest reaches of Africa and Asia. They were the giants and they were unstoppable. Even as the West fought and destroyed itself on the battlefields of the First and Second World Wars, someone would still be there to preserve their glory. For a time, that was the United States. As Europe squabbled amongst itself in the latter half of the 20th century, America reigned supreme. Yet unipolarity does not last forever. New challengers would rise to threaten the dominance of Western states. The once-mighty empire of Persia had been relegated to obsolescence and foreign control for almost a century - something that the people did not take kindly to. In 1979, the people of Shahist Iran revolted to create the Islamic state in response to a perceived "Westoxification" of culture and government. Often at odds with the West, this new nation would quietly become resurgent in the 21st century.

When the 2008 economic crisis hit, Iran was weakened as well. Yet as the years went on something could be felt changing. The country opened up and sanctions were lifted, allowing economic recovery. The West could be seen struggling. China rose to match the stagnated United States. The two countries became superpowers in a new conflict mirroring the Cold War of old. Iran, too, prospered under China's wing. Their newly moderate-leaning government, born from reformist movements, powered their new ambitions. They sent men into space where the United States and Europe had left it cold and barren. They sent more and more soldiers abroad to conflict zones to establish their presence as a peacekeeping force and ingratiate themselves with nearby governments. The novel phenomenon of a Persian state policing the Arabs instead of a Western one became increasingly prevalent as the years went on. During this time, China and Iran began to grow closer together. They formed CSAT - the Canton Protocol Security Alliance Treaty - as a counterweight to America's NATO and Russia's CTSO. Nations began to flock to CSAT for support, including such countries as Iraq and Azerbaijan. In the early 2030s when Turkey was hit by a massive earthquake, CSAT troops intervened to provide stability and security. Turkey left NATO for CSAT shortly thereafter - a shockingly unexpected upheaval in the geopolitical realm.

It is here where CSAT wishes to expand its influence westward to challenge NATO. An east wind blows upon the Balkans, upon bankrupt Greece, and upon the tiny island-nation of Altis. They, too, struggle with economic crises and military insurgencies. They had reached out to CSAT for support in these trying times, and CSAT was more than happy to oblige. Now they are involved in the crisis there, a flashpoint that threatens to throw the world into war again and forever change the balance of power between the dying West and the nascent East. A change is on the horizon: it is to be determined on the battlefields of Altis.

The CSAT Modification Project is something that I've been working on to create a more conventional aesthetic feel for the OPFOR faction in Arma 3: something that many people weren't too pleased with. This includes changing elements that seemed to be outlandish and out-of-place for the rest of the game like the Protector Helmets and the CSAT Fatigues. The assets included in this pack are designed to provide the familiar feel that people want, but still stay faithful to the BIS setting to allow for an appropriate enemy for the setting's BLUFOR to fight. This also facilitates replacement packs for campaigns and missions involving CSAT on 2035 NATO, since it'd be odd to have 2014 Iran versus a BLUFOR that's twenty years more advanced. So now comes the release after roughly over a year of work.

Now with a replacement pack!

So who doesn't like pictures? More or less out of date, but I'm attempting to bring new ones in.

Wow I really like the uniforms. Nice work. Looking forward to the future of this mod.

One thing, when I was reading the notes on this it says you will make this a replacement mod. Could I recommend making an add on version as well for people like me whom want to keep the BIS one's also? I like how it is currently. CSAT and CSAT Alternative. Anyways just a suggestion.

Yeah, the replacement pack won't be mandatory. It'll be a separate download and pbo. You keep both with this one.

> Future goals include finding a replacement for the Ifrit and the Kajman.

As you´ve mentioned, maybe a port of BIS Ka-52 with the proper CSAT retexture would work (a Mi-28 would be ideal, but the previous authors would need to give the permition) and for the Ifrit, ideally a GAZ port, but it would need permition too, doesn´t Vilas have a GAZ model? If you port it to him, he may let you use (along with other of his modeled vehicles), would be awesome! =)

Certainly. Although this is my first mod so I'm not sure if I contact the guy or if he does it on his own.

Well for the Kajman the logical one would be a Hind Mi24 as its basically the base of that BI used to make it. After all the Kajman is both a gunship and a transport helo. The Mi8/Mi17, could also work ( which BTW is used by the Iranian Army ). Both are in A2.

I like the Ifrit and the Kajman... :( The Kajman is nothing else but a mixture of the Mil Mi-24 and -28 anyways. And I love to see Ifrits crawling over Altis like little shooting bugs. ;)

That's why you still have the Vanilla units ;)

You can just use the infantry from this mod and the vehicles from the vanilla.

Nah, I'm still counting on a userconfig-based replacement-variant of this mod. ;)

which reminds me: If you're making it a replacement-mod and add alternatives to the vehicles, don't forget to make that feature toggleable. :D

...the CSAT look a little too modern. The BLUFOR look silly juxtaposed with CSAT in this mod; the former wears silly outfits that provides zero camouflage and the latter look like a bunch of well-tanned NATO.

I'll definitely be using the replacement pack, though!

It'd be nice if someone could make a layman's tutorial to changing configs. I've always wanted to change the NATO and CSAT to use weapons from Massi's NATO/SF or the FHQM4 pack so I could play the campaign without cheating in mod weapons that had too small of a caliber to be useful.

Unfortunately that is what CSAT is meant to be in the Armaverse timeline. They are currently working their way up to be the world superpower and NATO/U.S. are just about no comparison to their military might. Factor in that the western world is crumbling in economics, etc while CSAT is thriving of all things, you have yourself a war thats pretty neck to neck.

What I like about this mod is that we don't NEED to replace the original CSAT. The CSAT is made up of different nations that have come together as one. Different countries or even just different brigades WILL have differences with the uniform. All nations working together with a similar camo patterns on soldiers and vehicles. That way they still have their own look and can tell the difference with enemies and friendlies.

I guess you can look at the French Foreign Legion as a kind of example.

I haven't found any units with any of the different hats. Are they on any units or are they something I need to put in their init if I want them?

Great job

Different countries or even just different brigades WILL have differences with the uniform. All nations working together with a similar camo patterns on soldiers and vehicles. That way they still have their own look and can tell the difference with enemies and friendlies.

I guess you can look at the French Foreign Legion as a kind of example.

I haven't found any units with any of the different hats. Are they on any units or are they something I need to put in their init if I want them?

Great job

I have a beret on the officer class but the hats are going to be put in the init, yes (except in the case of Rifleman (Light) with his tac vest, carbine, and soft cover.) I neglected to find a way to put them in there, but I may put boonies and soft covers on recon forces in the future.

I should have classnames in the OP soon but if you like here are the hats now:

TEC_H_MilCap_Arid = Arid Patrol Cap

TEC_H_MilCap_Semiarid = Semiarid Patrol Cap

TEC_H_MilCap_Urban = Urban Patrol Cap

TEC_H_Booniehat_Arid = Arid Boonie

TEC_H_Booniehat_Semiarid = Semiarid Boonie

TEC_H_Booniehat_Urban = Urban Boonie

Great first release TheEvanCat, ive finally got around to checking them out in action and i think they look great, new helmets look awesome! maybe the uniforms are a little shiny/clean? other than that no other issues or errors, look forward to future updates.

Yep, I have plans to dirty the uniforms and dull the flags a bit in the future once I find some suitable dirt layers and whatnot.

Take a look at how these flags are done:

file_download.php?file_id=7088&type=bug&show_inline=1&file_show_inline_token=20140505cb0515b6c414227e78f31628f56078c959440a61

Has the insignia underneath, as well as lines the flag in gold. Would look superb on your units :)

Another thing you could do would be to add CSAT retextures of the M-ATV, Merkava, and such to make it more similar to the original Iran faction from E3 2011. :D

You link! It has no sauce! Although is it the E3 2011 Iran flag that's actually the R&D unit flag or something?

But for right now I'm going to fix up the known issues relating to bags for engineers and medics - they have a special backpack that contains the repair/medkit in them named in the config that I need to create and fix.

Okay, I'll correct that in the next update. Simple config change.
