Female heads Mod (yes, another one)

Recommended Posts

hey guys and gals!

I'm pretty new to posting on the forums as a whole, so if there's anything I've missed out in this at all, I'll fix it the second i find something's up.

I know 'Ice' did a couple of female face and body mods for Arma 3, this is just my own take really.

basically, I found out about this tool from Autodesk, Character Generator, which enabled me to create characters that are pretty freaking decent without spending any time on modelling them (I have skills in 3ds, but I'm a very slow worker), someone on another forum gave me an idea when posting screenshots of an old ghost recon model that I upgraded using the generated character's hands and head.

the idea was to detach the head and port it for use in Arma 3.

it was a bit of a steep learning curve, I'd never actually touched O2/Object builder properly until last week when i started using it, thankfully after following this tutorial and #2

, along with some help from some forum posts here and on armaholic, I got the hang of how it works a little better.

they've only got basic rigs to the eyes, head, neck and spine currently, I might add more weights soon.

(old model)

all credits for the model go to autodesk, I only configured them and modified them to be arma friendly.

the strange camouflage you see is my own custom one, i was testing that along with the new heads.

There's a texture quality and sharpness issue which i need to have a look at,i have a feeling it's lighting, I'll try to use Altis or stratis on the next tests. if anyone knows how to get a normal map working properly I'd appreaciate the input

what I hope to achieve by the end of this is an array of selectable female faces (black, asian, white and hispanic) that work well with the female rig, eyewear and helmets. the current models don't work so well with caps and other hats, but work great with helmets, I'll probably fix that with a hat friendly version.

any suggestions for this are welcomed.

Awesome work ! I am impressed !

The most important thing you should have is a proper female voice setup. The female mods in Arma 2 never fixed this problem.

Great stuff zeealex! In the continued absence of official females of any kind by BIS, work like this is really important. It's a shame icewindo didn't continue his work, so it's great to see someone else pick up the ball. Do you have any plans to do female body/skeleton/animations so they don't all swagger around like Mike Tyson?

Modeling breasts into the model might be a nice idea. Not all females serving are flat chested "Mike Tyson"'s. Not in a pervy way but actually for realism.

PS: Possibly a slight sway of the hips while walking very slowly would be nice... :P (slightly pervy)

Save for that fact that in environments like that a woman would be more likely to wear a sports bra to keep her bust down and away from being a hinderance, the armor would flatten the chest more, and there is a great possibility that without modifying the armor itself, said breasts would quite possibly clip through the vests.

thanks guys! :)

I could probably model some female gears to sport a female build, not quite sure on where to start with custom animations, but I could give the walking animation a shot. as much as i love seeing a woman swaggering around like mike tyson XD

obviously unbinarizing BIS .p3d models outside was they've already given you isn't allowed, so it will be a case of making new uniforms from scratch, or using the BIS supplied models from Arma 2 and updating them which shouldn't be too hard, it'll be time consuming, but I'm fairly confident, but I'd have to get a greenlight on whether such modification is allowed.

if arma 2 model modification isn't allowed then there's always alternatives.

nodunit- noted, I could possibly use the modified female underwear .p3d and have that as the basicbody of all female classes so at least the face wont look too out of place when stripped down. that was supplied a while ago, if the breasts aren't massive, it shouldn't clip through the vest, it'll be mainly just adding a feminine build.

underneath all of the gear the characters are wearing, you wouldn't be able to see much shape anyway, but the shoulders would need to come in slightly and the arms would need to be smaller in terms of muscle structure.

not sure on voices, I'd need an American female VO (I have a British accent, so I'm out) who is patient enough with a good microphone.

True, True. But IRL women do not take combat infantry roles until recently. At least in the US. They mainly take pilot and airforce roles where they don't really have to wear a plate carrier all the time, hence why their breasts might actually be fuller. It would also be great if we could get some civi females with varying body shapes (large breasts, small breasts, wide hips, narrow hips...etc.) would be great for human traffic missions where the women are being sold, where you would have to rescue them and bring them back to safety. Also possibilities for have actual stripclubs for life type servers. Just my 2cents

The fact that you guys are talking about breasts and hips (and strip clubs? seriously guys?) basically sums up why 90% of us don't want female models in the game.

But IRL women do not take combat infantry roles. At least in the US.

And yes, women do now take combat infantry roles in the US.

All right okay, I got a little excited. Sorry if I wanted to be able to look at some "fine" women while in game xD. This is a M rated game so it can be whatever the hell it wants to basically. I'm not saying make it a porno, but some realistic female figures wouldn't hurt. Anyways off that topic I didn't actually know that women can take combat roles now...well now I do. :D

well, the_demongod, you gotta remember, arma 2 had hookers, and the stereotypical "naughty secretary" looks. and roles like that are common in most countries (not sure about islamic countries though)

ArmA3 needs AT LEAST some civilian femelas to populate the missions (and be spawned by TPW civs), even if it is just to crouch in cover at a corner during firefights... But I certainly wanna have female soldiers and fighter/chopper pilots amongst the ranks! I´m tired of Altis/Stratis being a PEDERASTHOS island, it totally breaks the immersion when you only have male and adults around... we don´t need bikinis, we need a less sexist simulation!

And If I get it right Zeelex is a woman (by what I´ve read above, maybe I´m clueless lol), and she is damn right to try to break this arma3 male paradigma! If I were an asian in a game with only western models, I would do the same... many kudos for her!

cheers!

I am indeed! and thanks! ;) I mean, don't get me wrong, i love the male models as much as the next woman would, but it's just nice to feel... included, shall i say. obviously from my understanding BIS not doing the female models was more of a time issue, rather than downright refusal, which is understandable, I love the game and i always will, i think it's my best buy of 2013, and there's never a time when i'm not having fun on it, female models or no female models.

Now female civilians, definitely something I can do, the character generator has a generous array of good female civillian clothes that I can use and port over, but I'd have to work around the uniform system or it will look weird seeing a guy with a woman's figure. but the female soldiers will definitely have to be reworked from another base model or left as is.

@Zeealex

looking forward to this. That would be very great. We have one female player in our team, and she is a little bit sad about the missing of female models.

So i wish you all the best with that modification.

Zeealex - great work on the progress, no matter which path you decide to take with it. It'll be good to see some more content that BI wasn't able to include themselves.

Pretty good work. The texturing may need some work to match the game lighting.

But, there are female models in ARMA 2 so why doesn't someone just port those over? Or perhaps even BB's female soldiers mod from ARMA 2?

Or even in DayZ mod version. I have not seen any females in DayZ standalone, but at least there are models out there can be used as reference points.

But I agree, ARMA 3 really do need Female characters in multiple roles.

yeah, the texturing does need work, normally texturing is my forte, i've been doing it since i was 12 on other games, so i'll give the diffuse a bit of tweaking past what's already been done to them (their hair had to be changed) there is a normal map texture for them, but I'm not quite confident on RVMATs yet, every time i add the RVMAT in, the head disappears, possibly an alpha channel issue. if i can get someone to check that out, I'd be grateful.

but lighter one (ID: Oakes) looks a little jaundiced and waaay too pale compared to the other one, which I modified the colour of based on the male skins.

Ice was in the middle of forward porting "baker" from said mod into arma 3, but I'm not sure where the progress went from there, it just kind of stopped. I have it on my game for a reference point and the head wasn't compatible with eyewear. I'm not sure where the post has gone, but i'll try and find it for your to scope out. the issue with forward porting arma 2 models is unless there's distinct permissions from BI to use them, i can't release the mod to the public, and even if i did, it would require that the player owns arma2 OA to use. with Character Generator's models, I've effectively bought the rights to use that model anywhere within reason.

I hope Zeealex can get some help from those guys (and propably gals too) workin in Epoch as they doesn´t show up round here =)

holy crap... you bet I'm checking these guys and gals out! :D

roger that! I'll have the mod done ASAP for her ;)

I've found some resources from a free 3d model site, I'm going to attempt to modify them and add a female friendly combat uniform in and see what happens, the breasts won't be prominent, as mentioned, breasts clipping through the vest isn't going to look right. but the shoulders won't be as broad and the figure will be smaller and somewhat less masculine.

other than that, if i can find a good way of rigging the female models available on CG, expect female civilians to be pumped out with a quickness.

as it stands right now, I'm still fixing the female heads to work properly with the default models, they work fine on the nato combat uniforms as shown, but still appear to float and they aren't correctly centered on INDFOR gear.

once that's fixed, I don't see why I cant put up a test version for you guys to have a look at.

i'll post up civilian model screenshots soon.

you are allowed to use the female models, as BI has released all content except broken objects from Arma 2 and DLCs to the public, and under the license you are allowed ports of pretty much anything as long as it stays in the Arma Franchise. and if you "port" it you will not require arma 2 as all you gotta do by looks is rebuild the connections to the new skeleton and remove dependencies from a2. i know this is possible due to Kju's AllInArma when using the arma 2 characters. (learned from watching drumheller from the 15th play a ArmA 2 custom campaign in arma 3)

the only problem i think you would have permission wise is that you may end up having to make it open source, depends on which files the characters are in

heres 2 reasons

-Campaign reasons with a female news reporter

-Female soldiers

i didn't know that! thanks for the heads up. opensourcing isn't a problem ;)

UPDATE:

Female soldier base model is in the works:

http://i1227.photobucket.com/albums/ee423/Zeealex/fem_soldier_base_zps38aab75c.jpg

need to tone down the breasts a bit, but that's easily done in 3ds.

yea i can see what you mean there, even my ex didnt have that big of a set
