Jalalabad, Afghanistan---By M1lkm8n and Smokedog

Out of curiosity... I've been wondering where I can find a good tutorial on making maps. I've had this desire for a long time to map my former AO during my tour in Afghanistan, know any good links?

yea. this site is the holy grail of sites :)

bushlurkers tutorial while for a2 is def worth the read. I cant tell you how many times I read it before I started comprehending everything I needed to grasp before I started on a terrain. its very detailed and very good!

https://sites.google.com/site/bushlurker/

look for his guide to microterrains in the tutorial section. I assume you will be working with a3 so this is a invaluable site as well

http://armamapmaking.info/

in the wiki section you will find a nice a3 tutorial. I recommend reading bushs tutorial to grasp all the concepts such as layer.cfg and your sat/mask pngs...just to understand what each one does then go through the a3 tutorial because you will be working with the new toolset which, despite a few shortcomings, is really leaps and bounds better than visitor3.(so congrats to bis for bringing that to us :) )

and why your at it check out this video...jbad plug :)

its feature the dock crane which can be used at an industrial complex that sits on rails. currently its steerable but that will be fixed to only allow it to move back and forth on rails. OH and apparently we are getting ropex support which from vbs to allow the crane cables to swing with the momentum of the crane..so as soon as that's added ill be adding that as well

oh and where was your ao?

Pech River Valley, on the east side in Kunar. Start from Asadabad and go along to the northwest and you'll hit a valley that goes west. THen it'll sharply curve to the north and you'll see the hammerhead formation (of note where it curves up is where roughly the Korengal starts). I use clafghan but I'm scratching my head still as it's NOT Kunar Province by a long shot, so I'll see what I can do and thanks for the links to the tutorials. I did see a Kunar Province map for A2 so I'll see how it looks and may give up the project if it's good enough.

Haha I thought it looked familiar. Well nice job on the crane. I'm also excited about the ropex, hopefully include it with our SOAR fastropes

Looking great, any plans to release the updated building separately for other terrain makers use?

Yes. After everything is 100% we will give the source to CUP for anyone who wishes to alter them or whatever as well as release the standalone jbad_structures which has all our buildings for anyone not wanting to download CUP which will be a smaller download that can just be plug n play for terrain makers and mission makers.

ok guys. been quite for a while but we've been hard at work. currently we are done all the house(minus some bug testing) and they are ready to begin being placed. we've managed to snag a nice high res sat image of the terrain which you can look at the pictures below. there will need to be a good bit of work done to it to get it useful for arma but so far it looks nice in bulldozer.

we've managed to add some nice feature such as swinging handles on the cargo containers and stuff like that. features that we think will really make this terrain come alive. so stay tuned ;)

Nice to hear that and good luck. Personally I'm quite bored with all the Arma 2 ports.
