pipyn1970 19 Posted April 8, 2014 Hi guys, hope ur all well. I want to make this happen: My team (2 human players) walk to a room where I want an AI officer sitting (I hope) behind a desk giving us a brief of the mission. If he's not sitting then I will animate him a little. The thing is, all this is new territory for me & really would like a step by step tutorial please if possible guys. As it's my own mission, I think I will need to know how to get my own recording into the AI to speak also. I understand that this is a big asking guys, but I bet there's hundreds of people out there who could use this knowledge. I've tried reading what I can but I just don't understand. Basically what I need to learn I think is: 1) how to record a voice telling the briefing 2) how to get the acting in game 3) how to get the AI to "say" the brief using a trigger when we are very near the table Many thanks in advance for any help folks
cobra4v320 27 Posted April 8, 2014 I use audacity for recording sound. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ Once you have your sounds put them into a sound folder. Then you need to go to the description.ext and make the entries for each one of your new sounds. https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Description.ext#cfgSounds After you have done that you can play the sounds using the playSound command. https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/playSound If you want a sound to play once you are near a table then check the distance from the player to the table or use a trigger. Once you get the basics down then start messing around with the more advanced stuff.

Thanks for the advice mate, ive just watched a video on youtube regarding this & the chap said to save the audio as .oog files. When he played the speech back, it was robotic. Is there a way of making it sound human like on the campaign mate? Also during this mission I'm have enemy ai patrol near us & in the ideal world would like the CSAT to chat as the walk by in their language. Do you know of a sound file like that in arma that I could use mate. I plan on trying to look at armas sound folder soon my self. many thanks once again mate for everything I forgot to mention that in the video he used the syntax unit name "saymes1" on the triggers & waypoints. Is that the same as playSound? What's the difference please? Edited April 9, 2014 by Pipyn1970 forgot some info
cobra4v320 27 Posted April 9, 2014 Yes you will need to look under all of the dubbing files in your addons folder, that is where you will find all of the in-game voice overs.

Thanks mate, ive found the PBO files, copied 1 to my desktop, downloaded a PBO extractor & put the dl file into my system folder like it said but now what? What do I need to do to extract the file so I can use all the radio sounds? Thanks for the advice mate
