So are we going to get Humvee equivalents? And how about some armored Trucks?

Recommended Posts

Lets face it the MRAPs are not the future Humvees and the Hunter, Ifrit and Strider just dont fill that role very well... They're big and slow with only 3 variants and can be easily spotted...

So my question is, will we get something else? Heres an example:

NATO:

JLTV By BAE, Navistar. (Down sized of course)

Jltv_Bae_Systems_Navistar_Valanx_joint_light_tactical_vehicle_United_States_American_defence_industry_military_technology_023.jpg

CSAT:

SPM-2 Tigr. (Would be down sized a bit since its quite tall.)

AAF:

The Sandcat.

These will come with variants like the Humvee did in Arma 2. These are examples because I really dont think the current ones in game are doing their job.

Now for the armored Trucks/Troop carriers/MRAPs.

I believe they should carry maybe less troops but have more protection from small arms maybe even 50 cal... I dont expect it to stop a tank shell but I do expect it to not blow up if from 1-3 shots (I blew up the Kamaz like that because the fuel is exposed.) or be able to take a mine aswell.

NATO:

Cougar H (Long 6x6 version.)

m02006120600263.jpg

CSAT:

Caiman.

AAF:

Wildcat.

Again these are examples of what it could be... I think it could add to the game quite a bit so thats why Im suggesting it.

The Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) is a United States military (specifically U.S. Army, USSOCOM, and U.S. Marine Corps) program to replace the Humvee that is currently in service

Which is enough, as in the actual US military doctrine troops are mainly transported in light armored vehicles, APC and helos, not trucks.

BTW the CSAT is already using the Kamaz Typhoon, sorry the Tempest:

While the AAF uses the Fennek, which for their needs, is more than enough; after all is a recon car. Most of actual armies use unarmored trucks to transport troops nowadays.

IMO the only change that I would do, is to introduce new and different turrets for each of the vehicles, more realistic than the copy & paste.

jep strider is only a recon vehicle - you can buy a version as a light AA to with stinger 2 starter

Fennek_Stinger.jpg

i think first need the aaf a complete counterpart to red and blue. bevor the other fractions become more and more ^^

for CSAT a india Zuzana maybe to for replace the copy and paste arty:

for AAF a pzh2000 or DONAR artillery ( for the DONAR can use BI the MRLS cassis from A2 ) and he need low ai perfekt for the AAF.

CSAT may have the Tempest but in terms of functionally it's no different from the HEMTT or Zamak trucks. The cab is paper thin and there isn't a version with the armored transport compartment.

Well, you are right, it surprised me the lack of such compartment... but we'll see what BI will say in the next future ( I guess after the Zeus release ).

Well truth be told, I think the vehicles we got now adds up pretty nice(however I would want more variants). My only change would be that the AAF replaces the strider with humwee(not because I dislike the fennek but that it feels to modern)

You must think how much time it takes to create a vehicle and what role it will fill. IMO we got the MRAPS that work well for patrol and light transport, we got the unarmored trucks for large transports and the APC/IFV for combat transports. As I see it a semi armored truck wouldnt really offer something new.

Yeah, I drive by the Oshkosh truck plant at least once a week (Which is the logo on the steering wheel for the BLUFOR MRAP) and there are tons of these things getting popped out. These are most definitely phasing the humvee out and I don't see what is wrong with them functionally other than size. Regardless, far too many have been made for them to go back on it now. These are being used in the military and I feel like ArmA 3 portrayed it fairly well.

Yep, I’d say the days of the Humvee or other Light Up Armored vehicles as main modes of transportation are fading fast.

In Afghanistan you’re not even allowed to go out in Humvees anymore.

Thanks to the threat that IED’s pose, you’d be nuts to want to take a light vehicle over something like an MATV. Heck even MATV's have trouble considering they're the lighter more off-road capable version of MRAPS.

They aren’t using old artillery shells anymore; they’re buying buttloads of fertilizer at dirt cheap prices and packing it into barrels. You don’t have to penetrate the armor when you can just flip the vehicle so high and violently that everyone inside goes splat or wishes they had.

I realize every situation is different but in other parts of the world those materials are pretty easy to get.

I suppose the closest thing to a future light Humvee would be the BRVO (one of the JLTV competitors.) Looks pretty similar. And smaller cars fill the gap of a recon and utility vehicle without having a multiton behemoth that 70% of the world's bridges can't hold. Not meant for direct action, really.

I'd like to know if they ever plan on changing the driver's eyepoint inside the Hunter...it's just terrible...way too far back for proper driving and the windows appear too small...you just cant see out of the damn thing worth a shit. It's an awful experience getting in a Hunter this way.

So I’ve been thinking about it some more and although I don’t think that a light fully armored vehicle will bring anything new to the game, I think a light strike vehicle would.

The problem with a FULLY ARMORED Light vehicle is that it really doesn’t do anything that the MRAPs don’t do already.

On the other hand, lots of people…myself included…enjoy a little more danger and vulnerability in their missions from time to time. Therefore I believe a happy medium is in order…

It might be fun to have a smaller, faster, and more nimble vehicle that could take some hits and still get you where you need to go provided you keep moving. - Enter the Light Strike/Patrol/Recon Vehicle. -

This would be a fast, maneuverable, lightly armored, open vehicle; with only half armored doors however, a version with fully armored doors should be included as well. (See Flyer 2 pictures.)

Although the vehicle would be completely disabled, it should be able to completely protect the crew from a SLAM MINE or 1 explosive charge.

Here is what I’ve picked out so far. (Note that not all vehicles would need a full armored door version because they are pretty much completely protected from the sides already. - E.G. Bastion Patsas.)

NATO:

British - Supacat Jackal 2 - http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/1c/A_Jackal_Armoured_Vehicle_is_put_through_it%27s_paces_in_the_desert_at_Camp_Bastion%2C_Afghanistan_MOD_45148137.jpg (This would give a good JOINT FORCES feel to the NATO side.)

U.S. - GD Flyer 2 - http://i57.tinypic.com/dcsx1k.jpg - http://i58.tinypic.com/2ps57yg.png - (Armored door version.) http://i60.tinypic.com/2jeqlag.jpg (I think this would be better as a U.S. Vehicle DLC…then again it would be nice to have both. :D )

CSAT:

French - ACMAT - Bastion Patsas - http://www.master-fighter.com/mf48500/mf48529_Acmat_BASTION_PATSAS_patrouille_SAS.htm (France has dealt with Iran in the past…)

Singapore - MK11 LSV - http://i58.tinypic.com/24617c7.jpg - http://livinginsingaporetoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/NDP2010-Vehicles-105.jpg (I think this would make a good CSAT vehicle but it might look good with the AAF too.)

India - Mahindra AXE LSV - http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/attachments/indian-car-scene/53326d1222539301-mahindra-axe-thread-axe252bin252bsummer252bwith252btroops740782.jpg

AAF:

French - ACMAT - VLRA Commando - http://defesaglobal.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/vlra-commando-b.jpg (This could also fit the CSAT inventory)

Polish - LPU-1 - http://greendef.blogspot.com/2013/10/lekki-pojazd-uderzeniowy-lpu_19.html

While we're at it, can we get a bus too? Not the same strapping MGs to the transport trucks...

Perhaps a tactical fast(armed) vehicle would be fun. However there are other more important vehicles, like AAF aa.
