[SP/CAMP/CO] Real-World Operations (RWO)

Recommended Posts

OVERVIEW

Real-World Operations (RWO) is a new initiative which focuses on rendering missions in Arma 3 inspired by military operations taking place in the real world. The idea is to use reports on real conflicts as a basis for creating scenarios or even Campaigns that explore these conflicts in Arma 3. While the missions are not 100%-accurate renditions of the situation on the ground, they are intended to generate interest among players in learning more about the real events and to honor the sacrifices made by the people of our respective armed forces. Most releases are accompanied by the news articles that inspired them. RWO releases will be standalone, with different sets of addon requirements, created by different editors. Conflicts and operations of interest are separated by region much like a news agency, with different regions such as the Middle East, Africa, and Asia falling under their own "bureau" (which will eventually be headed up by an editor with experience in the area). With the growing database of free addons available for Arma 3, the possibilities are vast and exciting.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED WITH RWO
We are always looking for new members, especially intermediate-to-expert editors and addon-makers, but just about anyone is welcome to participate as a tester (provided we don't have too many testers and not enough editors). Ideal members are self-sufficient, patient, and willing to proactively solve their problems while improving their skills at the same time. We have a Google Group filled with resources, including the RWO mission-maker's checklist, and a place to share progress, elicit feedback, and complete private testing. If you're interested in joining up, send a PM to me, h34dup or KommieKat with a Google Accounts-compatible email address (for access to the Google Group).

INPUT AND SUGGESTIONS WELCOME
Even if you are not directly involved with the creation of RWO releases, your input, ideas, suggestions, and concerns are all highly valuable. Please feel free to share your thoughts and ideas here in this thread!

As I´ve already said on steamworkshop, really hope to see a [RWO] campaign to A3, love you guys work on A2... I recently re-watched an old war movie directed by Irvin Kershner starring Charles Bronson and James Woods and I´m reading a magazine article with some disclosed secrets about Operation Thunderbolt (Raid on Entebbe) and I is such an interesting scenario for a [RWO], Altis intl Airport could easely replicate Entebbe´s airport and we already have IDF units, C-130J and most of the weapons used on said raid, just a suggestion ;)

cheers!

Would be awesome if there were compatibility updates to the RWO missions for use with AiA/A3. Engine is superb compared to A2/CO but not all mods have been fully ported yet.

Would be even better if the missions can be made for COOP play.

Hey Corporal_LiB,

great suggestions, but do we also have the right OPFOR? Ugandan soldiers and Palestinian terrorists if I recall correctly?

Massi´s african conflict (governament forces units) or SFP Wamako governament forces could play as ugandian soldiers (Wamako´s uses G3 rifles, which was the rifle Amin issued to his troops) and the palestinians were dressed like civilians, so just use vanilla armed civilians (or use CAF aggressors to be more steriotipical lol) and arm them with RH Microuzi and Massi´s or SFP G3s =)

Ohh and there were a couple (a guy and a woman) of eastern germany mercs amongst the hijackers!

cheers!

The Raid on Entebbe (code name "Thunderbolt") is probably the most amazing and most daring special operation ever conducted in human history.

Looking forward to seeing its Arma 3 recreation!

Don't forget to include the black dignitary vehicle that resembled Idi Amin's vehicle that was used to fool the Ugandans and get the spearhead force close to the terminal. And the secondary raid team that destroyed the parked jet fighters. There was also a third team the blocked the Ugandan reinforcements.

If you need consultation I'll be glad to help.

Potential mission discussion: Operation Entebbe

Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Entebbe

7) Ugandan MiG fighters http://www.acig.org/artman/uploads/uaf_mig-21mf_u916_001_001_001.jpg

Not available

What does the community think about this selection? Any other addons that fit the topic and are preferred? Please speak up, as I am in doubt to use the IAF camoed C-130 when seeing all the dependencies attached to that addon. Also, blowing up AAF jets instead of MiGs would be a bit of a let down.

Hey Mathias,

I really like this RWO concept and I just want to try myself.

There is a very small battle (or skirmish) in Falkland war what I wanted to represent since a long time. I tried to recreate in tactical strategic games (like Combat Mission) and tactical FPS (like Operation Flashpoint) but finally I always abandon the idea. Maybe now.

Mission: Top Malo house

Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skirmish_at_Top_Malo_House

A little bit I'm sceptical the addons are available, but I'm open to hear any suggestion:

1, Rocky, snowy hill, like Mount Simon, Falkland Islands.

2, A two story building, like this: http://theminiaturespage.com/news/?id=828324423

3, Royal Marines form 80s (in the Cold War mods for arma2 there was RM and I'm not sure it's available for arma3)

4, Argentine soldiers. (for OFP there was argentines from the 80s) But if no better the takistani army would be Ok. (or maybe the North Sahrani army)

5, FN FAL, L1A1 (it's like M16), M72 LAW are available for Arma3. It's no problem.

6, Huey and Sea King helicopters. But I could replace these with something similar.

Hey bardosy, I am trying to find addons for your great mission idea:

1)MLV PtoArgentione from ArmA1 works with AiA Terrain Pack, if you stay away from the non-existant settlement and ignore some errors that come up (it has this tree-less, snowy Falklands terrain)

http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=9972

2) I don't think that we have this specific building, but maybe there's something fitting in here:

http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=20821

3)UK pack for the uniforms combined with SP pack for the helmets:

http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=24609

http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=24099

4)Can be done using the SP pack since it contains olive drab helmets and uniforms

5)NATO SF and Russian Spetznaz weapons contain all the weapons we need I think.

http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=21912

6) US Helicopters pack contains a Huey and a Chinook which could replace the missing Sea King

I just did a few tests with the Operation Entebbe scenario, but I don't think we are already here regarding the features. You just cannot drive into and out of the C-130 with a car, and I think it would be a major letdown to be teleported into and out of the transport plane at the start and end of the mission...

Just FYI: There are a couple more or less recent missions in the RWO initiative (see above and first post), and I would gladly welcome new editors into the realm of creating pieces of history and current affairs instead of 2035 stuff.

Will you be updating previous missions to adhere to the new LOP naming convention? Tried to play around with the ANP missions and had errors thrown about lop_c_man etc... that no longer exists.

I'd like to, but somehow I am at a loss how to find out the new LOP names. Maybe just because I am tired right now, but I could use a little help how to solve this problem with the missing lop_c_man....

Just found this, awesome thread :)

I would like to make a mission, just getting a feeling of what kind of mods people are using for them, ive had a bit of a look around and checked out a few (i only use Arma3) and would love to do one with RHS Russian troops in the Crimea or Ossetia etc, on one of my favorite european maps, Panthera. Problem is by the time youve downloaded RHS then AiA map pack thats 6 gigs (required for Panthera apparently) then youve got a massive download for anyone who wants to play it. Ive been out of the community for a while but it seems RHS and AiA are incredibly popular, but is it a bit much to assume everyones got them?...

thanks!
