Thousands Of Ukrainian Troops On Border With Russian-Influenced Transnistria In South

Ukraine on Friday placed up to 7,000 troops on its southern border with the breakaway Moldovan

state of Transnistria fearing pro-Russian hostility in the region, according to Russian news agency Tass.

The small state, which is situated on a thin strip of land between the River Dniester and the eastern Moldovan border with Ukraine, has been heavily influenced by Moscow and has a significant number of Russian soldiers and weaponry inside Transnistria.

"After the events in Ukraine, we feel the pressure of some negative factors," said Yevgeny Shevchuk, head of the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldovan Republic. “One of them is the concentration of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the National Guard, reinforcement and expansion in the number of Ukrainian frontier guards along the border.â€

While the chances of a full Russian invasion in Ukraine were incredibly slim, Kiev has seen Transnistria as a de facto Russian republic and was cautious of the Kremlin's strategic benefit of having troops in both the east and the west.

On May 21, 2015, Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada denounced the agreement with Russia on transit of the Russian military personnel and cargo via Ukraine’s territory, and on May 29 head of the Ukrainian State Border Service Viktor Nazarenko told Ukraine’s Channel Five that Russia’s military threat was coming from Transdniestria.

In May, Ukraine banned the transit of Russian forces through its territory. One week later, it first reported Russian military movements on the border. Shevchuk said he had witnessed “additional equipment, the digging of trenches†and firing points being readied along the border with Transnistria in recent days.

seeing how economy goes i am starting to believe that apart from anti-corruption right wing movement in Ukraine, someone from west could "help" too , that's why till today we do not know who started snipers of Maidan,

Anti-corruption right wing? Oh aren't you kidding? So why that right wing (BTW being foreign product since Austro-Hungarian empire times) tried to mess with cigarettes smuggling that is going outside Ukraine (hint - recent Mukachevo clashes) rather than interrupting smuggling of the same cigarettes of Russian origin inside Ukraine to Harkov region (which goes from the country proclaimed as agressor)?

What would be the benefits for the EU and the US?

If Ukraine is in debt, has no industry, their people are poor as hell. They can't buy anything from the EU & US (nor food, nor weapons, nor anything) hence the EU & US would become poorer. Or better in the Greece example, if the EU & US want a corrupt and poor Greece, why do the EU & US send them so much money to avoid them to fall in bankruptcy?

You seem to miss the fact that if a country is more corrupt and poor, is more difficult to sell them stuff and more complicated and expensive to make business.

If Ukraine is in debt it still can buy many goods after getting another loan from IMF or others. And when the time to pay back the debt comes, here comes something like the recent law that permits to sell the lands of agriculatural funds to anyone without any restrictions. The famous Ukrainian humus. Or another stage of privatization or re-privatization, now pleasing interests of foreign investers.

Oh and if the country is corrupt but has some fancy natural resources and educated population it's even better for large companies to make business just because corruption means no regulations, no problems with ecological norms and taxes, cheap labor force that has no abilities to keep their rights secure.

'Russian' Soldier Discovered In Donbas (IBT)

A soldier fighting for pro-Russian rebels in eastern Ukraine has sparked yet another war of words between Kiev and Moscow by claiming he is from 16th Airborne Brigade of the Russian army, according to a report Monday from the Organization for Security and Co-Operation in Europe, the group charged with overseeing the conflict.

“An armed man guarding the facility at one of the sites claimed that he and those present at the site were part of the 16th Airborne Brigade from Orenburg, Russian Federation. They did not wear identifying insignia," the official report said.

While Ukrainian authorities charge that this is more evidence that the Kremlin is supporting the 16-month-long secessionist war, Russia says no such brigade exists in its military.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has previously charged that around 9,000 Russian soldiers are fighting in the war against troops loyal to Kiev. The U.S. and NATO have made similar accusations in the past, questioning where rebel forces obtained their vast array of expensive and hard-to-get Russian military hardware.

In May, Ukraine claimed that it had captured two men fighting with rebels in Donbas claiming to be from the Russian military. The Kremlin denied the claim, instead suggesting that both men were mercenaries that had voluntarily left Russian service.

Mentioning of non-existent airborne brigade (the fact that is easily proved just by google) makes OSCE role and qualification of report writers really questionable.

Airborne Brigade naturally exists but your link doesn't say that 16th Airborne Brigade exist anymore. Wikipedia mentions 16th from 1943. Never know what has been edited out or in into Wikipedia but at least currently that doesn't prove anything. At least we should be reading the same article because it was edited more than couple hours ago.

You may take any other source and see the same. 16th airborne brigade had existed until 1944. Then it was reorganized as 303-th Guards rifle regiment. And since the end of WW2 there was no such brigade (neither airborne nor air assault) in both Soviet and Russian army. So the joke of DPR soldier resulted in shitstorm in all the Ukrainian media which took it as a prove of Poroshenko's mantra about Russian army in Donbass. <_<

Oh maybe evil Putin invented time machine and brought 16th brigade from WW2 to current time.

In this case ordinary people may be confused only by ignorance of report authors who aren't even able to look at wikipedia.

Meanwhile Ukrainian Justice Ministry registers nationalistic party UNA-UNSO.

Also today "Right sector" radical movement activists put memorial plaque at the place of murder of Oles Buzina, famous writer that was in opposition to current Kiev regime and maidan in general. Plaque is dedicated to... killers of Buzina, "unfairly repressed by regime".

Oh and I'd remind that all the documents regarding promotions have stamp 'for duty use only' and regarding money and casualties have stamp 'secret'. So it's the good case to make a call to police.

(BBC News) Ukraine crisis: Deadly anti-autonomy protest outside parliament

One national guard member has been killed and about 100 injured outside Ukraine's parliament, after MPs gave initial backing to reforms for more autonomy in the rebel-held east.

National guardsmen were pelted with fire crackers and petrol bombs as explosions were heard.

Shortly after 265 MPs backed the first reading of the decentralisation bill in the Ukrainian parliament, the Rada, the protests outside parliament became more intense.

A missile was hurled from the crowd of demonstrators, many of whom were carrying banners supporting ultra-nationalist Svoboda (Freedom) party.

Ukraine bans journalists who 'threaten national interests' from country (The Guardian; 16th Sept. 2015)

BBC correspondents Steve Rosenberg and Emma Wells among those sanctioned by president, along with Russian state media channels.

President Petro Poroshenko has banned two BBC correspondents from Ukraine along with many Russian journalists and public figures.

The long-serving BBC Moscow correspondent Steve Rosenberg and producer Emma Wells have been barred from entering the country, according to a list published on the presidential website on Wednesday. The decree says those listed were banned for one year for being a “threat to national interests†or promoting “terrorist activitiesâ€.

BBC cameraman Anton Chicherov was also banned, along with Spanish journalists Antonio Pampliega and Ãngel Sastre, who went missing, presumed kidnapped, in Syria in July.

Andrew Roy, the BBC’s foreign editor, said: “This is a shameful attack on media freedom. These sanctions are completely inappropriate and inexplicable measures to take against BBC journalists who are reporting the situation in Ukraine impartially and objectively and we call on the Ukrainian government to remove their names from this list immediately.’

The reason for the BBC correspondents’ ban was not clear, but media coverage of the conflict with the rebels – whom the authorities and local media often call “terrorists†– has been a sensitive subject.

--> Poroshenko announced the new round of sanctions in response to the rebels’ plan to hold local elections in October and November in territory they control. “This adventurism and irresponsible decision requires our exact, coordinated reaction to the threat that has been created to the Minsk (peace) agreements,†he said at the time.

Poroshenko said the new sanctions would “strengthen the defences not only of Ukraine but of Europe as a whole, because a war is going on hereâ€.

Ukraine: BBC boss slams 'shameful' ban on international journalists (yahoo/IBT)

Ukraine is facing an international outcry after it banned dozens of journalists from the country –including three BBC reporters and two missing Spanish correspondents – over unspecified security concerns The decree signed by President Petro Poroshenko was deplored by the Committee to Protect Journalist (CPJ) and slammed as "shameful" by BBC foreign editor Andrew Roy.

"While the government may not like or agree with the coverage, labelling journalists a potential threat to national security is not an appropriate response," CPJ Europe and Central Asia program coordinator Nina Ognianova said. "In fact, this sweeping decree undermines Ukraine's interests by blocking vital news and information that informs the global public about the country's political crisis."

BBC correspondent Steve Rosenberg, producer Emma Wells, both British nationals, and Russian cameraman Anton Chicherov were among names included in the sanction list targeting individuals allegedly connected to the conflict in eastern Ukraine and the Russian takeover of Crimea. The document, published on the president's website along with a picture of Poroshenko signing it, was received with incredulity across western media.

Roy, told the Guardian: "These sanctions are completely inappropriate and inexplicable measures to take against BBC journalists who are reporting the situation in Ukraine impartially and objectively and we call on the Ukrainian government to remove their names from this list immediately."

The president informed that these restrictive measures will be imposed against more than 400 individuals and 90 entities of Russia and other countries related to the annexation of Crimea and aggression in Donbas," the statement read. Most banned individuals are vocal pro-Russian politicians, activists and media personalities.

Yeah the people there finally regained their senses. However, Ukraine has sufferd a lot from the Russian agression and will continue to do so. Not only have they lost Crimea, they also now have to rebuild and repair everything that was destroyed by their own and Russian/pro Russian troops. It will take a decade at least until that region is back where it was.

Yes, Russia is so agressive that it still sells gas with discounts, does not interrupt any trade (including coal trade from the territories held by separatists) and welcomed a couple of millions Ukrainian refugees.

Propaganda is so propaganda...

What Ukraine suffered from most of all is the will of US to create a ram against Russia, by massive anti-Russian propaganda and sponsoring nationalism since gaining independence.

I saw some groups of them been 'strayed' and fled back to their territory, abondoning their BMP. Oh and they tried to shoot our Border guard troops while fleeing. Also I remember large number of Ukrainian nazis among Chechen rebels during First war. Oh and I hadn't seen any valid proof of Russian hordes in Ukraine. It's sad coincidence but all the satellite photos that are supposed to show them, are all of bad quality and not informative (http://colonelcassad.livejournal.com/2404499.html), unlike those showing troops in Russia or Syria.

If Russia troops really participate in agression against Ukraine in masses, please tell me what is the purpose of selling gas, electricity, coal, fuel, engines and spare parts that can be used both in civil and military vehicles, banking operations and many other peaceful things that support Ukrainian economy at the same time with armed agression? Isn't it totally mad and illogical? Have you seen any other examples of such agression anywhere in the world?
