A storm is coming (Arma 3 Zeus DLC)

Recommended Posts

Up til now I have considered politicians to have the least appriciated job there is. No matter what you do as a politician, someone will be angry or pissed. It seems now, that being a BI developer is worse.

I've done my fair share of complaining, but I am welcoming this and eager to try it out before I pass judgement.

And I still think BI is one of the most community friendly developers out there. They are the only company to encourage modding whom are so inviting in sharing details about their game. So no matter my dissappointments, I am grateful for every single minute of the 218 hours I've spent on ARMA III so far.

I don't like it. What next ? Tornados ? Earthquakes ? There is so much work with this title on the MP side and we got some super duper lightning... Sad...

If you look really really closely, you can actually see couple of features other than the lightning in that trailer.

What's sad in my opinion, is the amount of shit tossed around, mostly at the developers and often without a proper reason.

Haven't followed this thread, and had to go back many pages to see what you were all talking about, and seen Zues vid on arma3 site,

i got to chuckle a bit because this is something similar to what Rydygier and I did with our mission/mod we built called Ragnarok for Iron front, which is based off of Mondkalb's Woo, only we added a feature among many where you could be any of the units/tanks ect,. you created.

So basically this seems to be to me at least a real time RTS/1st/3rd person Live mission, or mode.

Hold judgements until I play it. Seems fun, worst case is a base for something more realistic to be modded in. Zeus lightning? More like CO sent Tomahawk!

Among other things i m unable to understand is

Why they call this...thing DLC?

This should be easily a part of everyday's minor updates in Dev.version.

Calling this..thing a DLC it's like drawing the attention of entire planet!!!..to actually present them..a carrot

(or a potato if that matters)

Because it is DownLoadable Content and not a fix.

Why do you dev' a gamemod, but, you don't dev' planes ?

I need plane and boat please !

Because there still working on the planes. Arma3 team is focused on many things now, Not just 1 thing at a time. Zeus, Finishing off the campaign, Planes, Performance fixing. Bugs. and probably more.

So mate. Get some patience. Planes are being made.

And you don't need a plane. You want a plane. You desire for a plane in Arma3. But not now or ever has anyone ever needed a plane in Arma3. :p

Well, we have to disagree on this point then. We think it's a legitimate and interesting piece of work; it's a new extension to the way the base game is played, albeit made by a small, dedicated task force.

You only have to look at the (specialist games) media response to see that there are gamers out there interested in this - and we think they'll be more aware of it when it's wrapped up in a nice presentable package.

There's also examples of much smaller nibblets of (often premium) content sold by other developers/publishers that are packed as DLC, so I think it's a concept/language that's familiar to PC gamers these days.

Best,

RiE

I'm interested in this as well: Is the consideration to call this a DLC solely made out of marketing reasons? I somehow doubt that.

No, it's not the only consideration but, of course, there are many factors that make up such a decision. As I mentioned in my previous response, we do consider this to be a worthwhile, discrete unit of development, which we feel deserves some breathing room and will benefit from some attention.

Sometimes, with our various and ongoing updates, news/information can get lost to those beyond these forums or those truly plugged into watching the SITREPs, etc. We want to present work like this as clearly as we can and, quite naturally, want to get people interested, playing and building on top of this feature!

Best,

RiE

I was just throwing your inane bullshit back at you. If you want to be civil about it, it's not a one way street.

Can you actually tell me how this would cause more lag and desync than any other script based spawning system (such as ALIVE) or even editor placed units? Do you even have a single piece of proof to back it up?

That ticket is about map placed objects which is a whole other ballpark than editor placed or script spawned units.

If anything this should help performance as instead of having a ton of units spawning hundreds of KM away where they're wasting resources on both draw cycles and the AI computation cycles the DM can spawn stuff on the fly where and when the player is likely to encounter them, this means less objects overall.

If you acutally took the time to read my posts and not simply butt in on things you have no clue about and call people out to "stop fucking cmplaining" ,

you will see that i posted in a clean and concise manner my concerns and backed up with facts .

My point to refresh is that it is one thing for a Hobbyist or addon maker to create something that is not optimised , but for an official DEV to boast of DLC that negates all previous attempts to optimise this game and specifically Altis by stripping objects of there config class so they will have less impact on simulation and script calls , then for me it is simply wrong , A : because as i said we will be again inundated with Lag after _x inputs and or _ _x objects place , in addition " after 20 mins i suffer massive desync " to mention a few .

this then leads to further workarounds to once again pull back performance so this system works .

Its all baout costs , simulations JIP and everything else , ITS OK FOR A HOBBYIST but for a DEV to sell this as progress when the game in MP and the terrain is already POOR optimised is for me an insult to those that are not at Low end and not at High end but in the middle of recommended.

Your arguement in the debate about the Changelog is simply ignoring what i am saying , they optomised in one hand and taking away in another , which if all was great is valid but it isnt all great Like i said originally , DAYZ would not have had to spend all that time redoing network optimisation and animation bone reduction and everything else if this Engine was capable of a dynamic spawn in a mass PvP / co-op environment. The facts are all there i am simply not making it up .

I would much rather see all hands are on optimisation of Engine , terrains and campaign . than "NEW GAME MODE WOOOHOO".

now i think we both made our points and we see who was right when the pudding is ready to eat.

thanks for the debate and apologies for other to repeat my point .

I think it's great. I wished for better RTS-like commands for a long time in Arma, being a long time Battlezone fan too, and this could be great.

Making it "official" will also make it much more widespread.

Excellent and innovative move BIS. Thank you.

Arma is a Sandbox, this is perfect for it. The lightning bolt is just an extra gimmick for fun.

can we ban some odd six or eight posters from this Forum? Or would that just make them post there lame words in the other forums? Maybe Zeus will strike them out of this thread...., Love this great extra STUFF. Why anybody would not like this, or find issues with free extra stuff, must be sad they haven't got what they wish for? Really ,your hating on free stuff?

And what we've already seen devs reply with is that having "all hands are on optimisation of Engine , terrains and campaign" wouldn't actually make any of them go faster.

It's got nothing to do with going faster what are you talking about ?

Can 10 people repair a wrist-watch faster than 1 person?

OK ... I'm gonna go out on a limb and predict that the much-anticipated DLC will be a new island - Lesbos - and will be populated entirely by women to compensate for the other 2 Greek islands that are populated entirely by men aged 20-45 years old with hairless, sculpted bodies.

I'm more disappointed by the fact this is the third full release without an Arnold Schwarzenegger player model. Can't get more sculpted than that.
