Irish Armed forces Mod

Irish Defence Forces, The real thing :P Why the mod is called Armed Forces is explained in the 1st post :) Kinda of :p Because this is set in the Arma-Verse gives me a bit more creative freedom and calling it Armed Forces rather then Defence is to show that, that while based on the real thing, it is not a whole representative of it.

I feel so stupid sorry that i wasted your time.

Fantastic cant wait to see the new AUGs and camo, .. and fair play to the real Irish army for evacuating those Filipino UN troops in Golan Heights today.

Ok with a cup an taé in hand. I'm writing up a road map to give you guys a bit of direction in terms of what to expect and where I'm going with this mod. With my recent PC troubles, structures to updates fell by the wayside and were released half finished to fix the sound of the rifles. Frankly, there weren't up to the standard players expect nor deserve.

Irish Armed Forces Version 1.5 is on it's way however when that will be is unclear. Since the beginning I've tried my best to follow a release structure similar to the release of Arma 3. With an initial primary focus on the infantry units, before shifting towards ground vehicles then air. 1.5 will feature a host of fixes and new infantry equipment, from weapons to uniforms.

Thanks to the SMA guys allowing me to modify their weapon models. I've been able to recreate the upgraded AUG rifle the real life Irish Defence Forces are in the process of rolling out to infantry units. This weapon, along with the others, will have an ASDG requirement.

This of course isn't without headaches with only a single small rail at an angle, some IR lasers will be too large to 'fit' properly and will look silly. To compensate, I've ported a PEQ-2 that is used in RL to be mounted along the top rail. However proxy placement can be a bit of a struggle.

Anyhow. Magic lasers aside. I've been adding proper inventory icons to the weapons included, this should eliminate the 'no.entry icon' errors. Infantry uniforms will now be able to use insignia's. The M4 shotgun will have a new firing sound, the GPMG Mk2 will have a lower rate of fire. And soldiers carrying a M3CG and AT-4 (Known as the SRAAW) have been added, replacing the PCML.

8 new backpacks have also been added, Split 2 packs by 4 camos. A Carryall and Kitbag for carrying that precious ammo.

As you may have seen in the 1.23 patch fix. A new series of helmets were added. Known as the RBH303IE. The woodland camo helmet for the time being, will receive some special variants. Masks, ESS goggles, and scrim etc. to add some variety. I'll be exploring scripts to try and randomize usage among troops.

Most importantly, to me at least. The woodland camo has been completely redone. This particular one has caused me many headaches in the past to nail right and now I've finally done it. It goes pretty well with a woolly jumper

Can't say for sure, but I might add in UN helmets and Vests.

OK so that pretty much covers the Infantry side of things. I need more tea. I'll discuss vehicles at a later date. But just to throw it out there, if anyone is interested in helping out making vehicle models, drop me a PM. You'd be a life saver.

OK so the U.N gear was piss easy to do. I've decided I'll release separate at some stage either before or after the IAF 1.5 update. That way you can use the gear on any faction you want to suit your scenario.

UBACS uniforms are more like the NATO uniform. heres a reference of the UBACS

Oh hey look, good choice of reference there :P But yeah I know the proper UBACS is the one on the MTP uniform but that model overall doesn't really suit the look I want. The AAF uniform model is the closest one.

So last week I talked about the infantry side of the mod. In the meantime, Work on the infantry lead to a side release adding U.N peacekeeping gear for all to use. To kick things off this week we're staying with infantry for a short bit.

I've been working on many of the units loadouts and equipment. Adding new 'recce' units. Who use caps, boonies and lighter TacVests. And Calvary Corps troopers. Who mainly use the carbine AUG rifle. These small additions are chiefly because I've been working on Editor Groups. Trying to make them as accurate as possible to real life formations however information is hugely limited.

Anyway, that's mostly it for the infantry. Now for vehicles. Much like the IDFM I ran back for Arma 2. (Never heard of it? Not surprised it was one of my biggest flops) available vehicle models are rare. Which means I need to create them from scratch or ask around. This is for both Air, Land and Sea.

If you have the mod already you know there's temporary fill ins. But I do want custom vehicles that stick to the ethos here, New style equipment that don't stray to far from our current real life capabilities. The list I've come up with so far is below, I'll take about some individual ideas further down.

The Piranha 3+ is Mowags latest upgrade to the Piranha 3. Ireland currently uses the 3H so using the latest version for a near future mod isn't too far fetched now is it? It will be available in a number of roles, from standard troop transport, medevac and recce. I've only recently begun working on a model so it ain't the best but here's a shot.

Reference photos are hard to come by so in certain areas in particular the top so I'm using other Mowags as a rough guide. Lets call it a special Slatts touch ;)

The AMX-10 was chosen as a ArmaVerse replacement for the AML-90, recently retired from service. Despite problems in it's later years. It served the troops well. Even earning two the IDF equivalent of the Medal of Honor/Victoria Cross. It's French, it's wheeled, it's got a big gun. With recent events in Syria and Mali. Rumours are starting to circle about a possible acquisition of a similar style of vehicle.

The AW139 is the workhorse of the IDF. I've always been looking to add one in for troop transport but with the great sling loading feature coming it gives me more reason to get one out. Now for the Lír Class.

This is waaay down the line. But also something I'm hugely looking forward to making. I've been drawing designs for a long time and still making changes. Taking the Irish Navy's latest ship, the Samuel Beckett Class., as a base to build on. I'll be takings its design and adding "stealth" features. I suppose a good comparison would be the USN LCS ships.

I've rambled on for long enough so I'll wrap up. The 1.5 update is still a good bit off, 1 or 2 weeks at the earliest. For next times dialann forbartha will probably be about changes and progress screenshots. But until then,

So last week I talked about vehicles. To kick things off here's a recent picture of the Piranha 3+. There's been some work done to the underside and back area. But mostly the same.

In other news, thanks to Jarhead the M4 Super 90 has got some new firing sounds. :)

There's also been a ton of work done to the infantry and weapon configs, Tidying up and whatnot.

But the main focus of the last few days has been on the Army Ranger Wing units, the special forces of Ireland. With the last update they made their first appearance but next time they'll have a new look.

They'll be 3 sub classes. Black, Green Light and Green Heavy.

Black Role are the counter terror units of the ARW. They'll carry Carbine AUGs and the M4 super 90 combat shotgun.

Green Role take on more conventional tasks. Recce, raids, sabotage, etc. Light are to represent the recce element, trading armour for using lighter tac vests and boonies while heavy carry plate carriers and helmets. ARW Green units are known to use surplus and non standard combat clothing in the field.

I'm toying around with masks and that, but they'll like similar to whats above.

So I've been a little bit quiet lately in terms of updates but work hasn't slowed down on the next release.

To start with, I've made some basic groups for the editor, more will be added as I go along but it's a start. Also, changed identityTypes to include "Head_Euro" and a new "IrishNames" list. Plenty of O'Connor's and Murphy's to play with ;)

Thanks to the SMA guys again I've added a HK417 as a DMR for the sniper team. Alwarren was kind enough to let me use the LLM-01 for the AUGs as no other IR pointer would fit where the rail is. Thankfully regular flashlights do but the LLM-01 will still come in both settings.

I've also redone the winter camo so now there's a more white/grey and a lot less green and pink

The mod is also in the stages of online testing, hopefully the quicker this is successful, the quicker I'll be able to release it for you guys to enjoy

There is a T-6A Texan II addon for A3. Have you considered using this in your mod as the Pc-9? The Texan is based off the Pc-9.

So with the release of version 1.5 of the AID mod about 2 weeks ago. I went a bit quiet. But work hasn't stopped.

There's not to show in the way of pictures as a lot has been coding work. I've been doing more work on the Mowag Piranha 3+ textures and some model work. There hasn't been any major bugs reported so I'm focusing on the vehicle side of things.

I've also been working on a new project called Sahrani Life: Rearmed. Although it goes back to Arma 1. But that's for another day. (If you're interested there's plenty of WIPs on my twitter page.)

To keep people interest whet. Here's a screenshot of some work I did tonight. It's a modified FN-FAL the army now uses as a spotter/DMR. Adds a longer barrel, PRS stock and DSA rail hand guard. And a bit of a silly name but however.
