HSO ArmA 3 SLA pack

Recommended Posts

A3SLABanner.jpg

Good Day to you, Sirs and Madams.

If you don't know me, I'm the guy who did the SLA pack for ArmA.2. And now I'm back, doing an SLA pack for ArmA.3. Kind of a one trick pony in that regard. Except not! For now, I have implemented my newly developed, revolutionary "not-SLA" technology. I know, I know, it sounds risky, but trust me, it's worth the risk!

So, let's meet the gang, first off, in the red corner, we've got them damn dirty commies, the SLA:

Set2_SLA01_Thumb.jpgSet2_SLA02_Thumb.jpg

In the green corner, we've got everyone's favourite "are they fascists or are they just <EXPLICIT CONTENT>?", RACS:

Set2_RACS02_Thumb.jpg

And in the blue corner, we've got the CDF:

Set2_CDF02_Thumb.jpg

(Click the thumbnails for a larger view)

I've decided to go in the same direction as BIS have with ArmA.3's equipment, so while there are a few real guns being used, a lot of the equipment is fictitious (albeit heavily based upon real equipment - aside from a few very obvious examples, almost everything in the pack will have a real-life counterpart, although a few of them are a bit obscure, or never left the prototype stage).

The initial release, likely coming within the next few weeks, should include infantry, weapons and a small number of vehicles (think "ArmA3 alpha"). But I've got a lot of plans for what's going to be included in future versions, so prepare your butts, because this will undoubtedly end up being the biggest and best SLA pack yet!

nice to see another community member who cares about the CDF

also from my experience with the CDF they do not use their national flag for the military patch, they use a green and yellow 2 bar patch like the ones my CDF units have

I did consider dropping the CDF when I saw your thread - I don't normally like stepping on other people's feet (part of why I never did RACS for ArmA.2), but I've been working on this off and on since last October (I actually decided to add CDF before RACS), and it seemed a bit of a shame at that point to throw out everything I'd already done.

I think the yellow-green patches might be an older design of Chernorussian flag - the CDF are very obviously based on the Ukrainian Army, so the it may have been left in either as a holdover from an earlier design of the CDF or a little easter egg, I was going to use a very similar design, but then I watched too much Stargate Atlantis and decided everyone needs to have their national flag. :p

Some of the classic equipment will be making a comeback, probably not the 6-colour desert pattern though - I never really liked the original RACS camouflage, it didn't really make sense, given how little actual desert there was in Sahrani. You can't see it too well in the picture, but the new pattern (based on Kuwaiti Chocolate chip) is similar enough that it fits with the RACS "theme", and looks a lot more sensible across the whole island.

its their military flag, like how the USMC is red with the Marine Corps logo on it. and also you can do what you want with your mods, the CDF is just a side project, although i push my config guy to help work on it more

Hi, i would have given the RACS the current spanish pixelated BDUs, the SLA some eastern DPM alike camo & a mixed BDU of the camo on the screenshot and woodland camo for the CDF; RACS with woodland and/or Tan Eliminator III vests & the CDF with chest rigs & plate carriers, same for the SLA.

FN Mk-16/7 for the RACS or L85A2 and M16A4 and M4s for the CDF, the SLA should have at least some AK-12; that will be good enough gear IMO. But they look pimp already in the screenshots. Let's C ya

*EDIT: Or you could choose any camo of the shown here: Camopedia.org

One question.

I like much more when people doing not just re texturing models but accurate 3d models as well. Even ported models are OK you don't need to do it from scratch but I like it realistic and accurate not just by color.

I like it how this look like.

Now question. Is this models ported and did you separate uniforms, west and helmet as separate items to match A3 standards or this is, lets call it all in one 3d models like in ArmA1 and ArmA2?

Good job guys.

Funnily enough, that's pretty much what I've been using it as - though, I doubt this was BI's intention, since realistically no one's going to use a unit insignia for IFF. To use your example, it might not be unreasonable for, say, someone in the US army to recognise the USMC flag, but someone in the Bundeswehr could easily mistake it for the Albanian flag.

There's going to be a small amount of ultramodern equipment (for example, you can see the CDF's sopmodish not-Vz58 in the first post), but most of it's going to 90s style kit. I didn't want to stray too far from BI's original design.

Vests, Uniforms and Helmets are separate. They're mostly based off the old MLODs, though.

I don't mind the Chernarussian flag patch, it looks good. Just make sure to have it reversed if its on the right sleeve. :)

Great news. I'm glad to hear someone do it in proper way.

I'm looking forward for some TacBF on Sahrani with proper factions fully supported ArmA 3 features.

Great work.

So, here's a bunch of guns, that some idiot has just left lying around:

Set2_GunsAndSuch.jpg

(Materials are still WIP, hence why half are more shiny than they have any right to be, and the other half are duller than... well... let's not be disparaging towards anyone, shall we?)

So, let's talk about a few of these. Sort of ordered by the factions that use them, we've got:

-TrF1B-

RACS standard issue rifle. Pretty much an off-brand M16A2.

-TrF2-

An older issue rifle that's been re-purposed as a DMR.

-Remington 700-

Long range rifle. Adopted long after the TrF2 on the sole pretence that a dedicated "sniper rifle" must be worthwhile.

-MP11-

Basically an MP5/40. It's not entirely clear why RACS have invested so heavily in "forty cal". It may have something to do with the fact that whenever someone mentions the words "Smith And Wesson" any RACS officer's eye's glaze over, and they humming the theme to "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly".

-FN MAG-

Needs no introduction

-SL53-

AK47 domestically produced in the DRS. Has a folding stock, because Aluminium!

-SLR56-

Marksman rifle based off the RPK.

-SL86-

Modernized SL53. Carbine and light machinegun flavours also featured in image.

-Brenka Kladivo-

Chernarussian Rifle, based on the Vz58.

-Brenka Savle-

Modernized Chernarussian rifle.

-Enkavs Jemny-

Light machine gun, based on the Vz.52

-Enkavs Silny-

GPMG based on Vz.52

Hotzenplotz's Everon Island is very nice. I used it to make these screenshots:

Set3_01.jpg

The SLA troops are more or less done, a few minor bugs need squashing, but they're definitely very close to being finalized. (I don't know why that guy in the front looks like he's wearing eyeliner, by the way. :butbut: )

Set3_02.jpg

Yaki Yaki Chedaki!

Set3_03.jpg

These guys were almost cut, but recent events have inspired me to add them back in. For the first release there's probably just going to be Militia style troops, though I definitely want to add less organized forces (ie, riot mobs, vigilantes, gangsters, etc.)

Set3_04.jpg

The RSRA are sort of based on the guerillas from Queen's Gambit - they've been moved to the West side, because they were technically good guys in QG, and I wanted to add guerillas to BLUFOR. (It just feels right having a regular and guerilla force on the each side, and a Blue/Red/Green force for both Chernarus and Sahrani :D )

Set3_05.jpg

All the guerillas have randomized headgear, which I'm pretty proud of myself for getting working (even if it is basically a copy of BIS's headgear randomiser script)

Set3_06.jpg

And NAPA. Because people would complain if I did Chedaki and didn't do NAPA. :p

OH BOY!!! I can't wait till this addon drops. Following this thread now, also would the addon's weapons include a good kickback and recoil? A recent addon that favor this was good but when it came to the gun play i was Disappointed due to zero amount of recoil.

Recoil is going to be based on the ArmA.2 values, so it should feel right compared to the vanilla weapons.

EDIT: It seems that "recoil_single_primary_4outof10" and "recoil_auto_primary_4outof10" (the values comparable to those used by AKs in ArmA.2) are bugged in ArmA.3 - this might be the cause of the low recoil in the addon you mentioned.

Flew into Takistan this afternoon to test some alternate camouflage schemes.

Set4_DSLA.jpg

DSLAPAT isn't too commonly seen - it's was used for a small period by foreign service soldiers during the Soviet Invasion of Takistan. It doesn't really work in South Sahrani, but the DRS's military doctrine requires they keep it on hand to assist in the Global Revolution, so there's a ton of this stuff sitting in a warehouse near Pita.

(Probably going to change that red to a dark brown, it's based on one of the middile eastern DPM knock-offs, I was hoping it'd grow on me... it hasn't :( It'd blend in a lot better somewhere like Duala, though)

Set4_OSLA.jpg

The "Omniversal" pattern entered service in the SLAGF sometime after 2004. It's a bit difficult to say exactly when, because as far as we can tell, no one actually been issued it yet.

Set4_UCDF.jpg

The CDF's urban pattern draws inspiration from Russian "Gorod" camouflage, as such, it is blue.

The only blue building in the Green sea region is this Mosque, in Zargabad.

Set4_WRACS.jpg

RACS also have an alternate camouflage scheme, however, it's actually quite sensible for them to have one, and since I can't say anything vaguely comical about it, I'll just point out this guy doesn't have a magazine in his gun. Har har har.

I'm somewhat debating exactly how to implement these - there doesn't seem to an easy way to change a soldier's uniform while keeping the inventory (but it could still be done). In the ArmA.2 pack, the desert troops were just a different faction, but that method doesn't seem to be making the best use of the new uniform system... any input on this would be appreciated!

Very close to a preliminary release now - going to try to avoid feature-creep (I'm bad at that... I added a new gun just last evening :p ) and get something to you guys soon-ish.

In the mean time, more teasers! Only I guess these aren't really teasing as so much outright showing...

Set5_SahraniTheatre.jpg

Sahrani Theatre

The Island of Sahrani was first split through the Treaty of Tordesillas, with the South being under the control of Portugal and the North Spain. The Island's colonial history was somewhat uneventful, save for the occasional bout of Piracy stemming from the nearby island of Porto, until it was brought under Imperial rule in the late 1700s. The first attempts to unify the Island as an independent nation took place with the decline of the Spanish and Portuguese empires, though these hopes were dashed during the Spanish Civil War, when the northern island was overtaken by republican forces. Following the defeat of the republicans in Spain, the North declared it's independence as the "Democratic Republic of Sahrani", while the South remained as the Kingdom of Sahrani. Both nations assert claim to the entire island chain, though aside from a few minor skirmishes during the cold war, neither attempted to act on this until the conflict of 2006, when the Northern President was apparently assassinated, and blame was placed on the South. The situation rapidly spiralled out of control, with both nations publicly accusing each other of various crimes against humanity, culminating in a full invasion of the South by Northern forces.

BLUFOR: RSRA

Set5_BS.jpg

Not much is known about the RSRA. They fought against the Southern Occupation of North Sahrani, and assisted Prince Orlando during his attempted coup, though it's believed they've been active across the entire Sahrani island chain for much longer.

Set5_ChernarusTheatre.jpg

Chernarus Theatre

Chernarus is the second largest country in the Green Sea region (the largest being Takistan, following their recent appropriation of a nearly half of neighbouring Karzeghistan). The relatively young nation has been forced into a civil war by South Zagorian Separatists, who want to break away from the Government in Novigrad and join the Russian Federation.

Set5_BC.jpg

The Chernarus Defence Force is loyal to the government and people of Chernarus. They use mainly Russian equipment, though have recently joined NATO, and have begun to refit their armed forces accordingly.

OPFOR: ChDKZ

Set5_RC.jpg

The Chernarussian Movement of the Red Star, colloquially known as "Chedaki", is a South Zagorian seperatist movement. During their succession attempt they've been implicated in various war crimes. Their forces consist of a number of militia groups, as well as renegade CDF forces.

NAPA is a nationalist organization operating in Chernarus, under the leadership of the mysterious Prizrak. Though they claim to work for the benefit of all Chernarus, many consider them to be just as bad as the Chedaki. Are there eventually going to be crewmen and (light and heavy) armored vehicles aswell?

But ofcourse, so far so good, and this does exceed what I'd expected of this modification by far in a positive way. :) Well done, looking forward to the eventual release.

Just one question, what is the estimated amount of megabites, or perhaps even gigabites size of this mod? But please do keep up the fantastic work; It's appreciated. :D

Crewmen are ingame right now, but there's a bug with the shadows that's proving difficult to track down, so no pictures :p (I suspect it's being caused by the difference in head size between A2 and A3). I have a big list of vehicles I want to put in, but I haven't really started with them yet.

PBOs are currently sitting at ~150mb for the soldiers and ~100mb for the weapons.

I think you should contact .Kju when done to see if he is willing to make a replacement pack for the CDF, Chedaki, and NAPA with your versions, these are top notch uniforms

Blood textures? Lack of blood just seems unfinished IMO.

Considering it - there's some issues being caused by the way AiA taps into the old games right now (most noticeably it screws up a lot of animations, but I get the feeling this is the "tip of the iceberg"), so I might make a standalone "replacement" for the ArmA.2 classes that doesn't necessarily need AiA to work.

(Of course, I'd like to be able to do with the ArmA.1 stuff as well, but the ArmA.1 classes are... difficult... to replace)

Blood textures?

Yes.
