Arma 3 STABLE Server 2.16 "profiling / performance binary" feedback

Recommended Posts

Very interesting benchmark so far I also never experienced the FPS bug with Tbb4 malloc.

have you tried different nvidia driver by any chance ? I'm sure some old driver have way better fps in Arma3 my firestrike score have moved down too much since recent nvidia driver (980 ti owner)

1.64.139027 new PROFILING branch with PERFORMANCE binaries, v7, server and client, windows/linux

+ fixed some RPT spam

1.64.139037 new PROFILING branch with PERFORMANCE binaries, v8, server and client, windows/linux

+ fixed quite common engine crash

+ new server.cfg setting: `autoSelectMission = true;`

// When set to true, the server starts next mission in mission cycle and waits for players in the role selection.

// Allows full mission information in server browser and then results in proper filtering of the servers .

available via STEAMklient/STEAMcmd as branch too, read https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Arma_3_Steam_Branches#Arma_3_Server

BIForum feedback https://forums.bistudio.com/topic/160288-arma-3-stable-server-164-performance-binary-feedback/page-88#entry3109926

Discord feedback https://discord.gg/0aWSevYPq5W2FeM6

note: if your MAIN branch stable binary of client/server is crashing a lot

then I suggest you replace the binaries with performance binaries from PROFILING branch

note: about new server.cfg setting - until now when server was non-persistent , non-autoinit, with missionCycle defined

then it wasn't showing the next mission in cycle within the query on server list until player joined the server

@m0nkm0nk please try v7

My server was still on V4. Tried updating to V8/V7/V6 without any luck.  V5 seems to work.

v8 seems to be good singleplayer performance with tbb4malloc 20th(+4,35%) - although still a bit worse than v6+ tbb4 20th (+4,87%). i have not tested the combination in MP yet, so i cannot say if it fixes FPS bug. v6 still produced FPS bug for me after 1-2 hours on 60 players coop server.

v8+systemmalloc does seem to perform pretty bad (-5%; I double checked the results). i currently use v7 + systemmalloc and had not a single memory error, game crash or FPS bug. Have had a 8hour  session without restarting the game once(60 players coop).

latest benchmarks:

edit: i have not tested other drivers yet. they run very stable for me and i heard only bad things about newer drivers.

I did a rollback with DDU to your driver and got 10 solid more fps...I think they did a big mess or my install was not clear with the latest one.

It's always been x86. Latest roadmap posted said x64 will hit devbranch sometimes this year or soontm

So yes, very very still much WIP and not released to any of us :)

So I see dev branch is rated as faster access to Dwarden, what does that mean to us?  We can try it on DevBuild?

I usually only use blastcore on the 60 player coop server. yesterday I also used JSRS Apex and with the v7+systemmalloc I got the FPS bug for the first time after about 2-3 hours of playin. After disabling JSRS I could play on couple more hours and did not receive FPS bug again.

You were using mods (one of which is years old) on the cutting edge releases? You think that the feedback you give from this is useful?

well, imho bohemia should be happy about any feedback they get. It is cleary a tbb4malloc problem and one of the causes is cleary the updated sound engine. It is a shame that basically every new feature breaks the game completly and takes forever to be fixed.

they release 1.64 without obviously testing enough. I actually asked a dev over discord directly, if they plan 1.64 RC massive multiplayer tests - answer was no. So they either do not care or they still have not learned from the past. Both is a fail.

Now nearly everyone has problems with memory errors, low fps or fps bug in big multiplayer session.

And dont lie to yourself: It has been like this since alpha release. The problems keep changing, the symptoms are the same: a stable large scale multiplayer session has not been possible yet. And if you want to tell me that those 120 player altis life servers with constant desync are state of the art in 2016 than we have completly different understandings of how it should be.

its a fuckin shame that we need this thread at all. have you checked out how old arma 3 is and that we still have to deal with shit like this?

for me personally the new DLC policy is a hit in the face. they still want to use this engine, which has cleary been proven to be a huge fail afterall and is not capable of the core features the engine was made for: huge-scale realistic multiplayer.

What about investing the hundreds of millions they made with their franchise in a stable, completly new engine.

For me its simply a bad joke they still havent managed to get their engine running on a stable state and keep adding features who break it even more.

What we are doing here since OFP is beta-testing so they can use our feedback to fix the engine. the same engine they have been selling to the military.

i feel used by bohemia. havent felt this used like from any other company before. Oh no i am not at facebook.

if you dont want my feedback. its ok. just ban me from the forums like you already did in the steam forums for critic on your dlc and marketing policy.

I just hope that we see some more competition in this game genre, otherwise we will be keep getting milked by bohemia. there is just no alternative right now.

I am seriously done with it. You dont need to reply to this post as i dont intend to come back again. I have already heard all the ridiculous excuses from arma fanboys.

you do realize things changed for the sound modding due to new sound engine and other improvements (it was properly announced ahead with documentation)

and if the sound-mod wasn't updated for those accordingly then it's asking for trouble ?

also completely new engine isn't born overnight ... it takes 3-7 years to produce one

for 65535th time BISIM is not related to BI for years, separated companies with different owners, staff, goals, markets ...

before you continue on spreading FUD i suggest you at least educate on the subject about each company ...

you obviously missed me doing massive MP tests repeatedly each N revisions of Arma 3 past (including optimizing afterward) ...

moaning about maxplayers while mentioning Life servers leads nowhere ...

server and MP performance improved since alpha, beta, release ...

what was used to run 32-64 players now became 64-128 and some admins pushing limit to 150+

i think the continuation of updates, tweaks, fixes, improvements, new features clearly shows we aren't interested in pushing new game each 12-18 months

and you will be surprised but we value and read feedback ... usually those who get banned are for extensive spam or serious rules violation

This are my results, using only the client performance binary. The avg gain is less then 1%, but the main difference is in the Min FPS

Also when I close Arma this message pops up, and I didn´t had this before

With v10 performance (running no mods)

Place a module in 3den, open it to edit and then hit ok and error pops up.

Probably related to

  • Tweaked: Empty namespace variable names are no longer allowed

Hey, with V10 perf my Exile mission makes the server instant crash on linux. Didn't test with other 1.64 perf build.
RPT goes "14:49:41 Mission ExileFranceTest.Tanoa read from bank." and then crash.
EDIT: just tested with V8 : same crash...
EDIT 2: Also tested with V5 : crashed but after full mission init, last RPT log : "15:33:10 Fresnel k must be >0, given n=1,k=0"  (I also had this error with standard arma3server 1.64 with hotfix but it was not an issue), will try verify game file... Edit 3: verification didn't change any file...
