ALiVE - Advanced Light Infantry Virtual Environment

Recommended Posts

Any way I can run a script on the transport helo? I'm trying to set it captive and run another captive script for when units enter the cargo. Script works fine on the editor placed helo and I got it to work all right with the BIS support modules.................but lets just say those BIS modules are.........uh............great.......................

Anyway I can make an editor placed helo with scripts running in its init be the helo that the ALiVE Support uses for transport? Or got another solution?

Anything on this.

Also I'm having a problem getting artillery to do anything in the Support Module. I can select them in the screen, but I'm not given any missions to choose from. I've just changed the round counts in the module and I'm using O_MBT_02_arty_F. CAS and Transport work fine.

Edit: Is the CSAT SP arty not supported? The Mi-48 gets a little icon in my Transport and CAS, but no icon for a unit next to the callsign in artillery.

Pugs, make sure you don't have it profiled...or that you do have it profiled. Opposite of whatever you are doing, that was my problem lol.

Sorry guys…but I've searched Google and couldn't find a definitive answer to this question. Can you run the Alive mod in Single player with no internet connection at all?

Thanks!

Yes of course - you only need an internet connection to log stats on the War Room or to get Persistence, but you can quite happily play a regular game on SP. It works best if you set up a 'local dedi' - i.e. run arma3server.exe and join that but it also works perfectly fine just hosting a local LAN game. Note that you won't be able to save ALiVE SP - the engine can't handle that amount of data, hence the War Room Persistence thing.

I just have the modules placed down...................I profile the modules?

The CAS and Transport helos spawn where I've placed the modules.............the arty is not doing anything except showing the callsigns.

EDIT: Just deleted the modules, redid them and they work.:bounce3:

2nd EDIT: To anyone's knowledge is Aggressors + Zeus breaking ALiVE missions at the moment? I know in the Aggressors thread there's some conflicts right now. I'm using vanilla civilians along with Aggressors African and Middle Eastern to populate the civ module.

Load times are excruciating on my dedicated server and I never actually get in. Get to a load screen and hear some noises and then I'm stuck. I can load in about 2 minutes from the editor.

@Alive Dev Team

I was just experimenting with using a C130 as a Combat Support Transport. I get in the C130 and then set it to CIRCLE a designated area and set the height to HIGH. The C130 flies to the area very nicely and starts to circle the designated area. I then open the cargo ramp of the C130 and use the EJECT command which ejects me out of the C130 and shortly there after, opens my chute and I parachute to the ground. The method of getting out to my desired drop zone is really cool except I wish there was a way to set a higher altitude for the CIRCLE. Is there a possibility that this could somehow be done? I have looked two of the halo scripts/addons that are available and I think using the ALiVE Combat Support transport would be a really cool option. You actually board the C130, talk to the pilot, set your circle (drop zone), the plane actually taxis and takes off, then when you get to the drop zone, you can just open the ramp and eject/bail out.

Thanks in advance for entertaining this. You guys are doing fantastic work!

Respectfully,

Zlin

I have noticed in your list of plans there is a plan for an insurgency module, how exactly would this work in a large conflict scenario?

PUGS, it takes me a long time as well. 5-10 minutes on Altis to fully initialize. You will get to a point at the loading screen where you can hear your guy moving around if you try. I usually start up the server, slot, press ok, then go afk for 10 minutes or so. When I come back its usually done and I'm in-game.

Unfortunately, the CQB module has been taking hours to fully init and I'm still trying to see if it is a mission problem or the server.

When I test missions, it took also ages to load. It´s a pain in the a** to test missions. Especially if you just want to test small changes.

Pugs - Zeus is fine. Aggressors I can't answer for though. There might be some issues but best ask in the relevant thread.

Zlin - Please add a feature request to increase the height of HIGH (or add a new option VERY HIGH) to CS in our issue tracker! We'll take a look and prioritise it accordingly.

Sidanheath - Insurgency is still in early design. We envisage it being conceptually similar to the MSO Insurgency module that had terrorist cells operating in a network across the AO. T-Cells will have a different set of objectives and (hopefully) different methods of engagement to regular OPCOM (e.g. ambush, blow stuff up, IEDs etc as opposed to conventional attack and defend). One option we're considering is to have insurgency forces recruited from within the Civ population depending on relative reputation with OPCOM controlled factions (i.e. killing civs/destroying civ property causes more insurgents to spawn hostile to your side; patrolling peacefully and handing out eSweeties calms them down). We need to investigate the art of the possible but this is one area where Profiles can be a very versatile tool compared to regular unit caching.

Long Load Times - Firstly, please ensure you have both the latest A3 patch and up to date copy of ALiVE. But there does seem to be an issue with CQB taking a long time to initialise in the latest release and everything else has to wait for it to finish. We're working on re-factoring it but in the meantime as workaround you can either remove CQB temporarily (to help speed up testing) or reduce it to a small AO only.

Burdy/Ophelian - I can reveal that ALiVE logistics will have nothing to do with either logs or sticks, or even loggy sticks. It's quite a big bit of work so will likely be released in separate stages. At a high level, ALiVE Logistics includes object loading/placing & persisting (and where possible compatibility with other mods that may be doing it better than our meagre attempt if people prefer to use them. Also BIS's upcoming helicopter sling loading thingy), OPCOM battle casualty replacements and player resupply requests.

We'll release it soonâ„¢ when it's ready (or if we follow the accepted entertainment industry standard, just before it's ready).

Hey! I just wanted to tell the devs of this mod a huge thank you!

The things this mod does is awesome! It should be an official mod/part of an expansion because it does so well what you expect from that kind of sandbox wargame that ARMA is.

Keep up the good work.

You guys are awesome!

I'm actually not using the CQB module in this one.

I've got the civilian module loading in the larger cities with maximum saturation in those areas. I'm using the vanilla and the 2 aggressors civilians for that module.

Like I said, it take about 2-3 minutes to load in on my PC, buy my server just isn't launching it in any sort of acceptable way. I'll go back through stuff again, probably turn off the Aggressors and see how that comes out.

Para1,

This error was fixed in 0.6.5. Have you placed the Database module? Is your server setup correctly for the database integration?

Can you let us know what is alive.log?

Thanks

I've spent a little while optimizing the module, and here are the current stats for loading the CQB module on my client machine in Altis:

MIL_CQB INIT BENCHMARKS:

------------------------------

Fresh Game Start (2% Density): 26.0 seconds

Fresh Game Start (50% Density): 44.7 seconds

Running Game Start (2% Density): 08.7 seconds

Running Game Start (50% Density): 28.6 seconds

Included in latest development build, and will be available in the next release.

Also, if it took hours, may I ask if you were using synchronized units with the CQB module? That has been fixed also.

If you find any other slowdowns, please notify me to fix! :)

I wasn't using any synchronized units at all and the CQB module wasn't synched to any MCP/MP modules.

It took 10568 seconds until I saw the CQB init complete in the logs which is about 3 hours. That is on Altis with a 13km circle TAOR just for CQB over the entire island. I expected it to take a while considering it is Altis - all of those buildings are enterable and honestly when its up for a week or two at a time, 3 hours isn't a big deal.

I have small TAORs on most of the towns connected to an AAF OPCOM with about 2000 total MCP and MP profiled units, but it took just as long without any MCP/MP profiles.

As a side note, on Chernarus and Fallujah it only took 8 minutes for CQB to fully init.

I'm curuious, is A3MP conflicting with alive currently? I redid all of my mods saturday, and my Fallujah alive map no longer works. When I but it up I get "no buildings found" in my TAORs, but 3 weeks ago it was all working fine. I've even had friends join me in this missions. I tried recreating the missions from scratch, and no matter what size I make the TAOR (even covering the entire map) Alive gives me the same "no buildings" message.

Fallujah requires A3MP and A3MP_AP, are you sure you have them both loaded?

@ALiVE Dev Team

Firstly, thanks heaps for this mod, it's outstanding!

I have a few questions though...

Can the spawn radius profiling system be dynamically changed during a mission? I like playing with Zeus and occasionally I'll do a CQB scenario and want to scale down the spawn radius of zeus to just the town the players are in to increase performance. Then want to change it to be larger afterwards.

Also, I know I can spawn units in Zeus and use the Admin actions to give them to the profiling system (although in testing, I don't think this works correctly as they don't seem to de-spawn when I'm out of radius). Is there a way to 'hand-over' control of the units to the OPCOM? This would be handy for when players seize control of an area, then I could spawn in reinforcements to garrison the position, hand over control to the OPCOM and it could do it's magic to bring it to life. Or similarly, I could spawn enemy units in an area, hand over control to the enemy OPCOM and let it manage the battlefield while I worry about the bigger picture.

Once again, thanks heaps!

Ruairi,

Through the Admin Actions menu (requires the Admin Actions module on the map, and the Profiling option on that module set to yes) you can profile non-profiled units. Requires you to be logged in to the server as an admin.

Cheers Rath, but I already knew this - it's what I was referring to when I said "Also, I know I can spawn units in Zeus and use the Admin actions to give them to the profiling system". What I want to do is hand over command to the OPCOM.

Sorry, I misunderstood. I haven't had any issues with profiling, and based on what I've seen them do I think they become controlled by the OPCOM of their side. If there isn't an OPCOM for them, like if you don't have an INDEP/AAF OPCOM down, I assume they would just start a BIS default patrol.
