Two vital missing ingredients...

Recommended Posts

I just saw Black Hawk Down yesterday, and like just about every loyal OFP fan that saw the movie, I'm SO motivated to make a mission based on the movie/scenario.

I've found a map that someone made which resembles the center of the town and includes the U.S. base nearby. However, I'm missing two items that I find vital to the creation. I apologize in advance if I use improper or politically-incorrect verbiage here, but... anyone know where I can find african-american (black) militia?

Also, if anyone knows where I could find (assuming one exists) an improvised 3/4-ton pickup with an MG on it (DShck or M2HB is fine) or even a modified car or truck with the same?  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Also, if someone knows of an existing campaign/mission based on the movie or similar to the events of the movie, I'd love it if you could direct me to its location.

I dont think that there is any "black" militiamen out. This means that you will have to use the setface command on existing units. No, there are no technicals out (surprisingley) but you can use the ford bronco and mount an mg on it. I have found some problems doing that (the left front wheel sinks into the ground) so i dont know about that. Anyways, good luck with your campaign! smile.gif

Well, I may have to look into that idea in regards to the vehicles.  The scenario just wouldn't work without something of that nature present. Now, is there a way to put an MG on a URAL for example, or the civi-equivalent?

Also, assume that you're talking to a complete and utter novice (you are), how do I do this "scripting" thingy with the MG on the truck?

Finally... setface... sounds like it'd work... but then again, if you had told me to "recalibrate the flux-capacitor into a scripted poly-orthonal reactive command, then carry the trigger to a multi-variable wave string", I would have been equally impressed.

(Did I do a good job of projecting the fact that I have absolutely NO clue what I'm doing? ...or should I try harder?)

The script for the mg on the vehicles can be used on any vehicle, including tanks, ships helos, cars, but you have to change the position of the mg to get it to look good (just the hieght). you can find the script on ofp editing center, but it is currently down.

Hey, Snoopy.

I downloaded the Ugandan Infantry you suggested (which seemed to have been the perfect thing I was looking for, but... and I don't know if something may be off on my PC or an OFP setting, but... their faces arent' black.  The bodies look like "loosely organized" militia, but their faces aren't black.  Have you experienced this too?

Also, when I went into the Somalia map I downloaded, the ground wasn't yellow as in the picture/previw:

247-Somalia-1.jpg

247-Somalia-2.jpg

In my game, the ground was all white... or light beige to be exact.  I thought I was on the beach in Florida's west coast, not Somalia.  Unless... hmmm... did the U.S. actually assault St. Petersberg instead of Mogadishu (sp) ?

(Sigh)... the answer is simple.

Type this in the unit's init line:

this setface "face 33";

or

this setface "face 49";

I believe those are the currect faces. I've made a full blackhawk down mission that has black Somali gunmen, somalies on "technicals", Rangers rapelling from blackhawks, and lots of other cool special effects. I was going to redo this mission with some cool new scripts but I'm waiting until someone finishes a full Mogadishu map that way the framerates will be better then on the mission I made which ony runs well on high end PC's (anything over a 1.33 ghz processor with 256megs of RAM and a decent video card (I use a TNT2 32 meg card). I'm also waiting for the Ballistics MOD team to release their MH-60 Pavehawk helicopters.

My BHD mission can be found at the URL in my signature.
