Purchased Arma 3 Alpha... Is there an upgrade path?

Recommended Posts

Disclaimer: I'm looking for a Bohemia Interactive message that supports replies from people. Please no replies with speculation, as I will ignore those replies. Thank you! ;-)

Topic:

I purchased the Alpha of Arma 3 in July 2013, and tested the builds as they came through. Is there an upgrade path for Alpha buyers to get the full Arma 3 version (similar to Deluxe Edition purchasers), or do we need to pay for the game again? As it stands, it appears Alpha buyers get the base version only.

See chart here: http://forums.unitedoperations.net/index.php/topic/17176-arma-iii-alpha-march-5/page-3

Per the chart, the details read this way, assuming the chart is correct...

- Alpha Lite (invite only - someone paid for it and invited you)

- Alpha - 24.99 Euros (what I paid for)

- Deluxed Edition - 39.99 Euros... Comes with Soundtrack, Maps, Tacticle Guide, and Cold War Assault DLC.

- Supporter Edition - 69.99 Euros... All of Deluxe Edition, plus Arma X & All future Arma 3 DLC.

In summary:

I paid $30 for early access, alpha / beta testing the game, and eventually I get the Basic Arma 3 package. Is there really no upgrade path from the Alpha package for people that helped make the game a better product before the masses get the game? Alpha buyers don't get DLC? Alpha buyers have to re-purchase the Deluxe (and higher versions, if they exist) to get DLC?

Thank you for your time.

Hi, I'm not from Bohemia but:

1) You paid for early access: alpha and beta. Then you got the finished product. Not Arma 3 Basic. You got ArmA 3.

2) If you want the Deluxe you have to pay and get a whole new game, in steam and bis shop there isn't an upgrade options and someone else already asked for this "upgrade" and I read that this is not possible.

3) When DLC will come out, if they are free you will get them otherwise you have to pay. The Deluxe edition doesn't include any additional ( not free ) DLC , only sounds, map, tactical guide and ArmA (1), nothing else

Are you sure it does not come with any DLC? It supposedly came with "Cold War Assault DLC", according to the link... Maybe that's inaccurate from the link?

Thanks,

Aaron

This you are talking about is arma 1, operation flashpoint , the first arma released more than 10 years ago, not an arma 3 dlc

A common mistake: you didn't purchased the alpha, you purchased the full game (when released) to a reduced price and access to the alpha. Steam should have updated your game automatically. On the main screen in the lower right corner, check the version number: 1.06.xxx is the latest stable, 1.07.xxxxx is the dev branch.

I am not sure what you are referring to. "Cold War Assault DLC" is included in the Arma 3 Deluxe Edition.

1. I understand what I purchased.

2. I want an upgrade path from what I purchased.

If there is no upgrade path (again, I understand what I purchased), but this is not wise of Bohemia Interactive. The Alpha and Beta multiplayer game types were borderline unplayable at times due to bugs, and B.I. turned on debug monitoring which greatly slowed things down. So the incentive is cheap for "early access".

Whether it is realistic or not, my hope was an upgrade path to get DLC features. If it's not there, oh well, and I disagree with that perspective. If I have to buy the game over again for DLC, I think they are risking loss of people who bought the Alpha product...

Steam was already offering money back due to lack of planning. I am here to get it from the horses mouth.

ArmA: Cold War Assault is a full game not a DLC.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOH! I see. So no Arma 3 DLC exists. This is great info. Thanks for the link.

What? What do you mean, do you have to buy the game again to get DLC? There's no Season Pass deal (like COD or BF) if that's what you're asking. As for any future DLC, well you'll just pay the price of that DLC, so not $60. If it's a standalone expansion pack like Operation Arrowhead, then you'll have to pay full price for that since it'll basically be a different game. Hope that helps, but it sounds like you're talking about a Season Pass like deal, and BIS doesn't have that. But, yeah, there's no DLC yet.

The only copy that includes all future DLC was the supporter edition. This one is no longer available.

I'd also like to add that the supporter edition cost around 70€ back when it was available. The combined price of the cheapest Alpha deal and any possible future DLC might not even exceed that. And at this point, all paid DLC are just speculation - it's even possible they won't make any...

vvvvv Only because he thought it includes DLC for Arma 3. vvvvv

I think OP just wants to know if there is a way to upgrade to the Digital Deluxe edition now and get all the bonus packages...

In my original post, the link posted mentions DLC with different versions of the game. So far, I cannot find any mention on BIS of a "Supporter Edition", which mentions "Arma X DLC" and all future DLC included. The chart in the link I sent may be wrong, thus the reason I posted DLC questions... If a totally NOT free / pre-paid-for pass exists, then I want it. If not, then I will buy the DLC as it shows up like everyone else. ;-)

Thanks all for your replies!

I wonder if anyone bought, or if it just fell by the way side prior to shipping Arma 3.

Lots of people bought the supporter edition, on this same thread and page you will see above L3TUC3 avatar a little blue ribbon (put your mouse over it), that shows that hes one of the people who bought the supporter edition.

Yea, I think noone bought it for the forum badge :P BI is such a great company that is easy to see why people would want to pay extra just to support them, I would have done it but didn't have the funds.

If it was still offered, I would love to buy it. I really love BIS products. Boom!

You're not missing any content if that's the concern. Supporters however will get all future DLC's for free, as they kindly payed a little extra initially. When a new dlc comes out, ofcourse you're free to buy it. Aside from that, you're missing I think a map, some sound tracks and a key chain or something. I wouldn't worry about it.

... you're missing (...) a map, ...

Just to point this out: It's a printed Map of Altis which you can hang in your Room or something. NOT any in-game content like Altis/Stratis maps themselves.

The supporter edition did not include any non-digital content such as printed maps or key chains. Supporter was the same as Digital Deluxe, with the inclusion of a copy of Arma X: Anniversary Edition, the forum badge, and all future DLCs.

Then i've mixed this up. Maybe the Printed Maps were in the A2 Releases. I just was going to point out the Supporter/Deluxe Edition does not include any Game-Content such as a playable Map, that isn't in the Standart Version.
