Middle East Irregulars

wish # 1 a blue & ind & red version so we can use these guys on all factions as allies or and as enemies. (at least a IND and RED version would be super..)

Wish # 2 even more different troops incl pakol wearing.

Wish # 3 that my wishes get implented :P

I plan to update these guys in the future and I'm interested in what people want (no promises I will deliver however). First of all, ALIVE compatibility (will work on this as soon as I post). Also, I am thinking of cutting All In Arma (the downside being losing all those technicals and crew-served weapons). I am also thinking of using the weapons from Sudden's Russians. There is also the possibility I will remove the Massi uniforms and only use the (admittedly limited) default BIS uniforms. The reason is that I want to make the mod lighter and neater, with fewer dependencies. If I cut the reliance on Massi's Africans, I would appreciate if someone could make some BIS retextures to improve variety.

Im not really liking the aggressor mod at all so would be nice to see this become less dependent and compatible with Alive, also any luck with this from first post - "I plan to do a similar release for Hezbollah and the Syrian Arab Army." I'd love to play with these vs your irregulars.

Also there is a syrian conflict mod made for Arma 2, with great Syrian army uniform textures, I forget author and details.

I think cutting the number of dependencies is a really smart idea. For example, I wanted to use this mod for my upcoming mission based on an al-Qaida cell, but didn't want the user to have to download any more than two or three dependent mods.

You can use the existing headwraps from Arma 3, and cut out two mods right there.

If you just cut it down to being dependent on Sudden's Russians and African Conflict, that would be ideal.

That's excellent news and a very generous offer! It's not very often that a modder says "tell me what you want" :D

You've covered my first wish, improved ALiVE support.

While I'm all for fewer dependencies too I'm not sure I'd loose any sleep if they still had AiA. I've used the irregulars on maps via A3MP as well but if I have a choice I tend to load through AiA instead, as you said, for the technicals and crew-served weapons (as well as the maps)... Not just for your irregulars but I also prefer humvees and AH64s, etc. for Blufor as well. So until someone completes a port of A2 vehicles I'll be running AiA anyway...

Also Massi's stuff is pretty much default on my server and even in my SP time and I'm betting that most who use your irregulars have most of his stuff installed and active anyway.

I'll have to give my wish list a bit more thought. Thanks again for these units! They've kept me interested in Arma3 long after I grew bored with vanilla A3. :)

Quick question Drongo - I'm trying to add your Irregulars to a mission that takes place at night.

Is there an easy way to make sure your units don't spawn with sunglasses on? Do I need to somehow alter the randomization script, then add the modified script to my mission?

With ARJay's help I now have the mod working with ALIVE. I also have factions on BLUFOR, OPFOR and INDEP. BLUFOR and OPFOR only have the troops and armed technicals, only INDEP has all the support vehicles, crew-served and AiA stuff. I may change this if there is much demand.

The only two required mods are now Sudden's Russians and Massi's guns. However, the mod will auto-detect Hidden Identity, Kiory's balaclavas and Massi's Africans if they are present and use the clothing from them. Currently the only reason for the Russian dependency is for the RPG-7. If a stand alone version is released, I will switch to that.

There should be a release in the next few days.

For the next version I will either remove sunglasses entirely or remove them if the unit is spawned before 9am or after 5pm.

I can't texture, but if I had the basic woodland uniform that the SAA uses, it would be extremely easy to make these troops.

Shameless begging HELP WANTED

I can not model or texture to save myself, but if someone wanted to pitch in and port the Arma 2 RPG-7, I would be very grateful.

I am also looking for help from someone who can texture to make woodland Syrian Arab Army uniforms, as well as extra textures for the Irregulars.

Thas great to hear man! I never tried to do a texture, maybe I should have a go, I use Photoshop everyday.. I keep downloading templates with good intentions but never actually make a start lol, anyway hopefully one of the experts can help out.

Quick question, will the next version be using A3 technicals or A2 ones? Since the AiA dependancy is being cut...

I'm too scared to run AiA, only just started using A3MP :eek:

A3 technicals, with the AiA technicals as optional and even then only for the INDEP faction.

First post updated with a new version. Changelog:

v0.3

  • Added ALiVE compatibility
  • Added several more infantry groups
  • Added factions to BLUFOR and OPFOR (only INDEP has crew-served, non-technical vehicles and AiA vehicles)
  • Reduced the amount of required mods

In a future release I hope to add ALIVE-compatible vehicle groups.

Thanks for the update DR. If I may ask, how exactly do you use AiA to get only the static weapons and vehicles for this mod? Also, do you know if it will mess with the A3MP out of the box?

Basically not sure which pbo's I need.

All of AiA is required if you use the driVehicles pbo. Basically driVehicles.pbo inherits from a bunch of different Arma 2 stuff. Without driVehicles/AiA you will get still the basic infantry and some troops mounted in Arma 3 vehicles and crew-served weapons. With driVehicles/AiA you get Arma 2 technicals and static weapons crewed with Irregulars.

Good news Drongo, Massi's new update for his weapons pack adds RPG's.

Now you won't need the dependency on Sudden's Russians if you don't want it.

Yup! I just came to this thread to see if our kind author had posted any updates to incorporate the new weapons yet. I'm a bit afraid to update to the new build of massi's stuff for fear it might break my irregulars missions!

EDIT: First post updated with the new release (version 0.4). Changes:

  • Removed the requirement for Sudden's Russians, switched to the RPG7 from Massi's pack
  • Switched to RPG18/Strela for the AT/AA specialists

I haven't had time to test it much, please report all bugs.

I'm getting the error:

Addon 'drIrregulars' requires addon 'mas_ru_rifle'

I'm launching with PWS, all dependencies are installed and loading. One thing - PWS still shows Sudden's Russians as a dependency. I have reported this to the Six guys already so it should be fixed soon, but I don't know if it is related in some way to the error I am getting.

Thanks again for this addon - it's a must for asymmetrical warfare scenarios.

*edit - Six is updated and I'm still getting the error.
